We have been working with Karl regularly for about six months now, and it has been a genuinely valuable experience for both of us. My husband is a fairly introverted Asian guy who doesn’t naturally open up to strangers, but Karl somehow managed to build enough trust for him to be vulnerable and engaged during our sessions. That alone felt like a small miracle, and it has made a real difference to our relationship. Karl uses evidence-based approaches in his work, including MEMI to help desensitize traumatic memories. To say it looks unusual would be an understatement; part of it involves him waving a presentation pointer in front of your face in various directions and patterns. While I don’t think anyone can be blamed for reacting to this with a dose of bemusement and incredulity, to our complete astonishment, it actually works. It truly has to be experienced to be believed. Karl has an ability to balance empathy with accountability. He doesn’t shy away from giving either of us a dose of tough love when we need it, but it always comes from a place of care and a genuine commitment to helping us grow. We are grateful for his support on our recovery journey, and every minute we have invested in our sessions with him has been worth it.

Thank you both for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and generous review.

Knowing how thoughtful, analytical, and scientifically minded you both are, your words mean a great deal to me. I am especially touched that you chose to share your experience so openly and with such honesty.

As I read your review, I found myself reflecting on your husband's journey from understandable reserve to greater openness and engagement. Trust is never something that can be demanded; it is built one conversation at a time. Given how private he is, I have a great deal of respect for the courage it took to engage so fully in the process.

I also had to chuckle at your description of some of the techniques we used together. One of the things I appreciated most was the curiosity and healthy scepticism that both of you brought to our work. You were never looking for easy answers or quick fixes. You asked thoughtful questions, weighed things carefully, and remained open to experiences that did not always fit neatly with your expectations. That combination of curiosity and open-mindedness is often a powerful ingredient in change.

What stayed with me most, however, was your shared commitment to growth, healing, and to each other. Even when the conversations were difficult, both of you continued to show up with honesty, thoughtfulness, and a genuine desire to move forward.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of a small chapter of your journey. I wish both of you continued healing, connection, and many fulfilling years ahead together.

My spouse and I went to Karl during what might be one of the hardest periods of our lives. We were exhausted, overwhelmed and scared when we met Karl, and to our relief, Karl took the lead promptly. With competence, kindness and grace, he guided us through this harrowing experience and back to safety again. My spouse was extremely skeptical and couldn’t believe that an external person could help with our plight. After few sessions, he was comfortable enough to be fully vulnerable and shared his deepest inner thoughts without fear. Karl is gentle yet doesn’t mince his words. Very direct and will point you to exactly what can help. He doesn’t assume nor judge. We’ve had conversations about topics that we won’t even be comfortable to share with our closest friends or family. The only reason we were able to do that was coz of Karl’s kind disposition. So thank you Karl for your patience with us.

Working with Karl has genuinely been one of the best investments I’ve made in my health and wellbeing. His ability to listen deeply, ask thoughtful questions, and guide without judgement has helped me better understand my inner wounds and patterns with much more clarity and compassion. I’ve come away from our sessions feeling much more grounded and equipped with tools I can actually use in day to day life. A lot of the work has helped me slow down, better understand myself, and approach difficult emotions and situations with more awareness instead of rushing to react to them. What I appreciate most is that I’ve been able to build a stronger sense of safety within myself through this process. I’m incredibly grateful for Karl’s support, care, and guidance throughout this journey. I highly recommend Karl :))!

I’m truly grateful for the support I received from Karl. He created a safe and comforting space that allowed me to work through my trauma at my own pace. I always felt at ease during our sessions, which made it easier to open up and process those difficult emotions. His guidance has been instrumental in my healing, and I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking compassionate and effective support.

Working with Karl has been a great experience so far. Over the past couple of months, I've been dealing with some difficult thoughts, but was reluctant to start with therapy. Fortunately, I decided to give it a try and work with Karl, and I'm really glad I did. From the very first session, Karl has really helped me deal with my own personal mental health issues. I truly appreciate how truly he cares about me and how he creates a safe space for me to share my thougths without any judgement. He's helped me understand why I'm having this internal crisis and taught me techniques on how I can cope with them using technqiues like CBT, EMDR, as well as IFS. While I'm still in the process of healing, I look forward to our weekly sessions and believe that working with Karl is going to get me to a much better place in the future. I highly recommend anyone who's going through tough times to work with Karl. He truly cares for you and he is a kind and skilled therapist who truly provides a safe space for you to share and explore your emotions and heal from past events. Extremely grateful to have met him!

Karl has been incredibly supportive of my wife and I throughout our journey of recovery and growth. He is deeply empathetic, an attentive listener, and never judgmental. At the same time, he thoughtfully offers alternative perspectives that help each of us better understand ourselves and one another. He challenges our existing viewpoints with respect and genuine care, always with the intention of fostering personal growth and helping us strengthen our love and connection. We’ve been seeing Karl for three months now and highly recommend him to anyone looking to build a stronger marriage, deepen mutual understanding, or pursue personal growth.

Going to Karl for therapy has been incredibly transformative for me. I had been struggling with depression for 8 years since I was 14 and tried multiple different therapists, medications and whatever unconventional treatments I could think of. I also struggled with undiagnosed ADHD until I was 19 and dealt with a chronic neurological condition for the last 5 years. Difficulties navigating the mental and physical healthcare system had left me feeling helpless and disillusioned. I had become convinced that something was fundamentally wrong with me, and I needed to find the thing that would fix it. Previous health professionals further reinforced this notion by treating me like a patient, although well intentioned. The main thing I learnt from Karl is that there was nothing wrong with me. That the difficulties I faced were real—the external circumstances I faced and societal hurt I absorbed were real—but it was not a fundamental deficiency of my being. Karl’s approach is incredible humanistic and based on respect. I was always approached as a human first, full of interests, joys, hobbies, agency and strength. That was immensely important for me to feel empowered. I truly encourage anyone who is going through a hard time to keep going. There were so many points in my life I felt like things were hopeless, and that perhaps it would take the equivalent amount of time undoing all the hurt I had experienced. But healing was not a linear path and the transformative power of self acceptance and love affected me deeply in a short amount of time, even if my journey is no where near the end.

Dear C,
Thank you for the care and thought you put into this. Reading it, I can really see you in it.
What touches me most is how you’ve come to recognise that there was never anything fundamentally wrong with you.
There were very real challenges, hurts, and circumstances you had to live through, but none of that was a deficiency in who you are.
Watching you slowly turn towards yourself with curiosity instead of judgement, and compassion instead of criticism, has been very meaningful.

You did some very deep work, gently noticing the different parts of you that were trying to protect, cope, and make sense of things, and learning to relate to them with understanding rather than frustration.
You also began to see that alongside the pain, there were always strengths, interests, humour, intelligence, and agency present.
The honesty and depth with which you engaged in this work is something I deeply respect.

I’m really glad you feel more empowered and more at home with yourself.

Warmly,

I have been working with Karl for well over 2 years now and it has been life-changing, to say the least. He is incredibly versatile, showing a deep understanding of various complex life situations and relationship dynamics. He helped me fundamentally repair my relationship with myself and hence with my spouse, while offering invaluable guidance on raising my toddler daughter and navigating broader family ties. What truly sets them apart is his personality—he is the perfect balance of gentle and firm, providing the right amount of push and support exactly when it's needed. Plus, his great sense of humor brings a much-needed fun to the process. If you are looking for an insightful, adaptable, and genuinely supportive therapist, I cannot recommend him enough.
Reply from Listening Ear Counselling & Consultancy Pte. Ltd. 2026.01.03
Thank you for this, Chayan. I had to pause and smile while reading your words.

I still remember how sceptical you were at the start, and honestly, that is often where the most meaningful work begins. Therapy is never easy, and it is rarely about fixing one relationship in isolation. What tends to be most transformative is the relationship we build with ourselves, and when that shifts, everything else slowly starts to move too, our marriage, our parenting, and even how we relate to extended family.

I remember sharing early on that not everyone needs therapy, but almost everyone can gain from it. In some ways, it can even feel a little addictive, like a good mental spa. Humour aside, it is really about learning how to be kinder, clearer, and more honest with ourselves, and letting that ripple outward.

As a mum with a little one, I especially appreciate you taking the time to write this. When you have a toddler, time becomes a precious commodity, and the fact that you chose to share your experience so others might benefit speaks volumes. And just to say, even though you are already doing so much right as a mum, the very act of asking, reflecting, and seeking support is itself a quiet sign of humility and care.

I am really glad you found meaning in some of the tools we explored together, and I want to acknowledge the effort you put into showing up consistently for yourself and your family. That work is never small.

I am also grateful for the calm and steady environment at International Plaza and A Space Between, which gently supports these conversations and makes this kind of work possible.

Thank you again for your trust, and for sharing so generously.

Thank you so much, Shalu, for sharing this. I’m really grateful for your trust.

You are genuinely an inspiration in the way you show up with thoughtfulness, sincerity, and quiet perseverance. Your journey speaks of courage, even if it may not always feel that way from the inside. There have been moments, small but meaningful, where light was visible even in difficult spaces, those little sparkling moments that often tell the truest part of the story.

I’m glad I could be present with you, and just as glad that you were able to notice those moments for yourself. Feeling heard and understood matters deeply, and you allowed that space to exist through your openness and honesty.

Thank you for taking the time to write this, and for sharing something of your journey so others may feel less alone. I wish you continued steadiness, gentleness, and strength as you move forward.

My boyfriend and I did a couple's session with Karl because although we love each other deeply and generally have a great relationship, we kept falling into the same argument pattern which was really frustrating. The session we had was incredibly insightful and Karl equipped us with tools to handle that situation and strengthen our relationship. I can't express enough how glad we are to have done the session and would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to improve their relationships.
Reply from Listening Ear Counselling & Consultancy Pte. Ltd. 2026.01.03
Thank you so much for this, Jerusha, and especially for taking the time to write after just one session, that really means a lot.

It was lovely working with both of you. Even strong, loving relationships can get stuck in the same argument loops, and it can feel surprisingly exhausting, a bit like doing the same workout but never changing the muscle group. I’m glad the session helped you spot the pattern and walk away with a few practical tools to strengthen what was already there.

The credit really goes to both of you for being open, reflective, and willing to look at the dynamic together. That willingness is often what makes the biggest difference.

Thank you again for your kind words and recommendation, and I wish you both continued connection, growth, and plenty of good moments together.

Can't express how useful our session was with Karl. It was more than I could have ever asked for. He was knowledgeable, understanding and gave us the tools we needed to understand the situation at hand. There wasn't anything wrong with our dynamic but I would highly recommend Karl and his practice if you want to strengthen your understanding of yourself or your loved ones. Incredible valuable to say the least!

Thank you so much, Jordan, I really appreciate you taking the time to share this.

It was a pleasure working with you both. As you noted, there was nothing wrong with the dynamic. Often it’s about understanding what’s happening in the moment so things can return to a better sense of flow, where communication feels less effortful and more natural. Sometimes it’s simply about understanding the game better, adjusting the stance a little, and allowing that flow to return.

The credit really goes to the openness and thoughtfulness you both brought into the conversation. Thank you as well for your kind recommendation, it means a great deal.

Wishing you continued clarity, connection, and plenty of good flow, on and off the court.

Thank you for sharing this, Robin, I really appreciate it.

Our sessions have often gone into deeper territory, and I want to acknowledge the steadiness and effort you’ve shown by continuing to turn up, even during a demanding period. Choosing to reflect, to be open, and to sit with what is not always comfortable takes courage, especially when vulnerability is not something we are always encouraged to show.

Thank you for your trust and for your kind recommendation. It means a lot.

Over the past months, my son has been supported by Karl, who has become an essential part of our village. My son first reached out to him in July 2025, during a period filled with family transitions and the pressure of national exams, PSLE. What followed has been a steady and visible change for us both. I’ve watched a child who once carried self esteem, anxiety and more, begin to regain his calmness, confidence and emotional balance. Their biweekly sessions have given my youngest a safe and consistent space to express himself. Each meeting seems to ground him a little more. My son is learning how to navigate stress, understand his emotions and trust his own ability to cope. The shift has been gentle but is unmistakable. My son is calmer, more assured and more able to handle the demands of this season in his life. Karl has also guided me as a parent. His insights help me understand what my child is experiencing, and he gives me practical ways to better support my son at home. Karl’s guidance has strengthened the connection between my son and me. I feel better equipped to support my son through this challenging period. Karl brings warmth, clarity and genuine care to every interaction. His work has made a meaningful difference to my son and to our family. I’m deeply grateful for his presence, his consistency and the positive impact he has had on my child’s well-being.

Thank you so much for this incredibly heartfelt review. I am genuinely moved and profoundly grateful. I want to begin by saying what I have felt from the very first session: your son is blessed beyond words to have you as his mother.

You have stood steady through family transitions, PSLE pressures, and the emotional storms that come with growing up. You have held space for your child with a strength that is both gentle and fierce. There may be no awards, no public applause, and no national headlines for mothers like you, but there should be. You are the quiet heroines who carry the weight of an entire world on your shoulders while still finding the grace to show up, stay kind, and keep going.

Working in teen and adolescent counselling often means stepping into some of the most tender and uncertain phases of a young person’s life. It can be challenging because emotions move fast, reassurance needs to be constant, and trust must be earned slowly. But it is also deeply rewarding to witness a young person find their footing, reconnect with their confidence, and begin to believe in themselves again. Your son’s journey reflects exactly that kind of quiet, powerful turning.

Even in a demanding week, you found time to write this. That alone speaks volumes about your heart. And what your review doesn’t say, but what I see clearly, is that your son’s progress is inseparable from your own unwavering love and presence. You have been his anchor, his safe harbour, and his constant. I simply joined the village that you have been building all along.

Your son’s growth has been a privilege to witness. The gentleness in how he is learning to cope, to breathe, to trust himself again is remarkable. But so is your willingness to learn, to reflect, and to support him in new ways. That is parenting at its most courageous.

Thank you for trusting me with your son, and for trusting me with your own questions, fears, and hopes. It is mothers like you, unseen but utterly essential, who form the true backbone of our country. I am honoured to stand with you in this season and beyond.

With deep respect, gratitude, and admiration,

I’m thankful to be working with Karl. He creates an incredibly safe, non-judgmental space, and his trauma-informed approach has helped me feel supported while moving at a pace that feels right for me. His empathy, patience, and grounded presence have brought clarity to my healing journey and made a meaningful difference in my life. I’m truly grateful for his guidance, compassion, and steady support — and for showing me what it truly means to have a safe space. Highly recommend.

Thank you so much for your heartfelt words. I am deeply moved and truly humbled. It has been an honour to journey with you, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge the depth of courage it takes to do the work you are doing.

Showing up for yourself in the midst of heartbreak, trauma, and a demanding life is no small thing. The first cut is often the deepest, and facing that pain rather than pushing it away is an act of profound strength. You have done that without denying your reality, and without slipping into a victim story, and that speaks volumes about who you are.

Week after week, even with everything on your plate, you have chosen to show up. You have given yourself permission to slow down, to feel, to question, to grieve, and to reclaim pieces of yourself in the process. That is not just healing, it is transformation, and I feel privileged to witness it.

Thank you for trusting me with your story, your vulnerability, and your hopes. The safe space we create is built on your bravery as much as my presence, and I am grateful to be part of your journey towards wholeness and peace.

Working with Karl has been an incredibly positive and transformative experience. From our very first session, it was clear how deeply he listens, communicates, and genuinely cares about his clients. He creates such a warm, safe, and judgment-free space where I feel completely comfortable sharing my thoughts and emotions. Even though our sessions are virtual, he seamlessly bridges the distance — it truly feels as though we’re in the same room. What stands out most is his attentiveness and the thoughtful way he interacts and provides feedback. He doesn’t just listen — he hears me. Every session leaves me feeling understood, validated, and hopeful. I always walk away with greater clarity and a renewed sense of purpose as we continue our work together toward a better, more balanced version of myself. I also deeply appreciate his dedication to his field. It is evident that he stays current with the latest therapeutic techniques and thoughtfully integrates them into our sessions, which makes the experience feel both grounded and progressive. I wholeheartedly recommend Karl to anyone seeking a compassionate, skilled therapist who provides a truly safe space to explore emotions, uncover core drives, and grow toward healing and self-understanding. His professionalism and genuine care set him apart — and I’m deeply grateful to have him as a guide on this journey.

Thank you so much, Dr Arun, for your incredibly generous words. I am genuinely humbled. It is an honour to walk with you on this journey, even though you are in the USA, and we are twelve hours apart and separated by an ocean. Your commitment to the process, despite the time difference and your demanding schedule, speaks volumes.

I have to say, your surgeon’s precision shows up even in your feedback. Every line feels like it has been thoughtfully sutured together with care and intention. I will do my best to keep up with that standard, thankfully without the need for any scalpels.

What I especially appreciate is how your review reflects something important that many people overlook. Not everyone seeks therapy because something is “wrong”. Sometimes people, like yourself, are functioning well but choose to invest in their growth, insight, and emotional clarity. Your example beautifully shows just how beneficial therapy can be even when there is no obvious crisis. It takes wisdom and courage to make space for inner work before pain forces it.

Thank you again for your heartfelt recommendation. I am honoured to be part of your journey towards clarity, healing, and balance. And here is to continuing our work together. One time zone, one insight, and one carefully stitched metaphor at a time.

Karl, first and foremost, is a sincere, caring and compassionate individual - qualities I believe are fundamental for this type of work. Beyond that, he is a highly qualified therapist with ample experience. This combination creates a supportive space; an opportunity for healing.

Thank you, K for taking the time, and more so, for finding the strength to put words together in the middle of what you’ve been carrying. That in itself is no small thing.

When we’re in the fog of anxiety or depression, even a single sentence can feel like climbing a mountain, so I read each word of yours as an act of quiet courage. Writing something heartfelt in that space is not about reviewing a therapist; it’s about reclaiming voice, hope, and meaning, one word at a time.

Your reflection reminded me why I see therapy through a salutogenic lens, not about what’s wrong, but about what allows life and health to keep moving towards wholeness. Sometimes that movement is barely visible, yet it’s profoundly alive.

I’m deeply humbled by your words and even more by the moments we could still find space to smile, sometimes even laugh, amidst the gloom. Those moments don’t cancel the pain; they remind us that life, in its quiet wisdom, keeps creating little openings for light to come through.

Thank you for trusting me enough to share that space for bringing your courage, honesty, and even your humour to the room. Healing, I’ve learnt, often begins in those small, imperfect moments of humanity.

With profound humility and gratitude

As a fellow therapist, I can say that Karl provides a truly safe and non-judgemental space. He fosters a respectful and open environment where feelings and thoughts can be freely explored. What stands out most is the genuine interest he shows in each person’s journey, gently supporting you in developing new and healthier ways of thinking.

Dear David,
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. They mean a great deal especially coming from a fellow therapist. People often say therapists make the worst clients or patients, but you were definitely the exception!

It was such a joy to work with you, and I felt truly humbled. You are such an accomplished therapist yourself, yet you trusted the process, which made things so smooth that I could almost afford to be the lazy therapist. As I always say I do absolutely nothing (my back is bad and I’m the dumbest person alive!), my clients do all the work.

But as you know, I do care deeply and genuinely and I simply remain present and curious. And I am definitely ready to walk the last mile with you. Grateful for the trust and the journey we shared.

Warmly,
Karl

I started counselling with Karl earlier this year, after having worked with several counsellors in Singapore and other parts of the world. What I appreciate most about Karl is the empathy and mirror he brings to our sessions. He does not molly coddle me or trauma bond with me but shows me my truth, in the kindest and most non-judgemental manner. His own life journey as a missionary, law degree and constant investment in his training and education results in him bringing depth to our conversations. We worked together using EMDR therapy which helped me face my childhood obstructions in a beautiful way. He uses personal experiences and reflections to help me understand situations better and unlike most counsellors, does not use his professional boundary to create a wall between us to hide behind but is open and vulnerable even in sharing his own limitations which helps me open up and express myself freely. His humour, kindness and straightforward attitude helps me learn about myself with acceptance and kindness. He has helped me understand myself better, become a better partner but most importantly learn to express myself without any underlying guilt. My partner and I also had our first session together and the way in which Karl helped us understand each other and communicate left us both feeling much closer and stronger after the session. I look forward to meeting him every week and feel growth in every interaction.

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for your heartfelt review. I am humbled by your courage and openness in this journey. For me, therapy is not about rescuing but about standing with someone as they discover their own strength, their hidden resources, and those sparkling moments that deserve to be celebrated.

Professionalism in counselling is never about building a wall to hide behind. Boundaries are there for safety and clarity of roles, because our ethics stress above all the importance of trust, non-harm, and genuine benefit for the client. My task is not to make anyone feel small, but to offer a safe space where growth can happen.

I was fortunate to learn from teachers who showed me that empathy is not simply being “nice” but being kind, honest, and present without flinching. That is why I continue to train extensively in EMDR, MEMI, IFS, , Brainspotting, SE and in the approaches of people like Gabor Maté, Bessel van der Kolk, Peter Levine, and Stephen Porges. Trauma work has been transformed by their research and wisdom, and it feels only right to keep learning so that those who suffer receive the best we can offer. Everyone deserves that.

Thank you again for allowing me to walk with you in this process. Your openness to face the difficult places and to grow from them is deeply inspiring, and I hope your words encourage others to find their own path of healing.

With respect,
Karl deSouza

I started therapy with Karl in 2025, and he has always been very professional and effective in addressing my concerns and worries! Karl has a way to put people at ease and allow you to speak your mind and heart without judgement! Highly recommend even if it’s your first time!
Reply from Listening Ear Counselling & Consultancy Pte. Ltd. 2025.09.17
Dear Edwin,
They say some are men of few words yet a few words, when genuine, can speak volumes. Your review, though brief, carries encouragement and hope for many.

In much of Asia, shame can feel like a shadow that follows us closely. It thrives in silence, secrecy, and the fear of being judged. Yet shame cannot survive in the light of openness, honesty, and compassion. Therapy creates that distance a space where shame loses its grip because it is met not with judgement but with understanding.

It is not common for Asian men to come forward for therapy, and even fewer share their journey openly. That is why your words mean so much. They will give light and courage to others who may be unsure whether to seek support to remind them that therapy is not only for when something is “wrong,” but also for becoming a fuller version of themselves.

Thank you for entrusting me with that space, and for allowing your few but powerful words to speak hope into the lives of others.

With respect,
Karl deSouza
