We have been ordering our favourite Artisan Expresso Coffee beans from Butterworth and Sons for at least 6 years. We cannot fault either the coffee or the service. The order is always delivered promptly usually within 48 hours and sometimes even quicker. The coffee is just the best and we will not go anywhere else to purchase as it is perfect for our tastes. Thanks so much for a great product and service.
Just purchased my first 1kg bag of beans today after being recommended to me.
First cup has confirmed that I will no longer buy my coffee from anywhere else, superb taste and quality. I cannot recommend their products enough and this is the best tasting coffee I’ve had outside a coffee shop. Great customer service too.

Wonderful to hear, thank you Jon!
I used to buy Butterworth & Son coffee, from local my coffee shop, for my Aeropress at home and I was always impressed by the quality and flavours. Sadly that coffee shop has since switched to another, inferior, supplier, and since I found myself longing for another taste of Butterworth's excellent Kenyan variety I decided to order directly from them online.
My coffee arrived just a couple of days after ordering, even with only standard postage, and I'm pleased to report that Butterworth are the only online shop I've found so far that actually does a suitable grind size for Aeropress (medium on their chart) as most places grind it far too large for my taste. I've yet to find the time to taste this batch, but as mentioned I have a lot of experience with Butterworth coffee and have never found it lacking.
The only regrettable part is that though the price is reasonable once you include postage it becomes a little too pricey for me to justify ordering from here regularly. I guess it'll just be on those special occasions.

We're so glad to hear you enjoy our coffee and find the grind size for Aeropress works! We offer free next day shipping via DPD for orders over £40 :)
I've been a loyal Butterworths customer since November 22 and this is the first time I am looking to buy coffee else where.
Two 500g bags of coffee last month cost £25.50, today is £34 for exactly the same. That's a 33% increase in a few weeks and is disgusting.
I get coffee prices have gone up and expect a gradual increase as has been the case since 2022 - everything has gone up. I get the occasional extra few pence extra but £8.50 on top of what was £25.50 of coffee, this is just pure price gouging.
I have a few 'beans' saved and will use this time on a small order but I won't be back after this.
EDIT:
Thanks Rob for clarifying the situation. Your blog post from the 25th Feb states an expected minimum 10% adjustment, I can't vouch for other coffees but 33% over what I'd normally purchase is 3x more than the expected minimum which is a significant difference.
I purposefully don't buy in large quantities to buy more frequently to keep it fresh and it's all for personal use and the quality is a far cry from the £10 bags 1kg I used to get from Amazon.
I'd need to buy 4kg now to get similar value compared to prices prior to 1st March and I don't have the means to keep 4kg of coffee fresh for the 4-5 months it'll take to use.

Hello Arthur,
I understand your frustration with the increase.
The coffee market is in a very difficult situation currently with raw coffee prices more than doubling since last year, this coupled with increased UK costs, energy & wages to name a few, we have faced the difficult decision of increasing our prices or go out of business.
The increases we have applied are the minimum we could apply and I hope they will cover us.
The increases are global and will effect all in the coffee industry, everywhere.
The increases have been well published in the National news over the last year and our Blog https://butterworthandson.co.uk/new-prices-for-2025/ talks about the issue.
Our mission is still to secure quality, sustainable coffee and supply at reasonable pricing, which we still are doing. Your accusation of 'price gouging' is unfounded and ill-researched.
Furthermore our Gold coffees are £16 for 500g, that's equivalent to £8 for 250g, that's an incredible price for the quality we offer.
Thank you for your passion in our brand, please understand we are doing everything we can to continue to supply quality coffee at the best prices possible.
