I've been a loyal Butterworths customer since November 22 and this is the first time I am looking to buy coffee else where. Two 500g bags of coffee last month cost £25.50, today is £34 for exactly the same. That's a 33% increase in a few weeks and is disgusting. I get coffee prices have gone up and expect a gradual increase as has been the case since 2022 - everything has gone up. I get the occasional extra few pence extra but £8.50 on top of what was £25.50 of coffee, this is just pure price gouging. I have a few 'beans' saved and will use this time on a small order but I won't be back after this. EDIT: Thanks Rob for clarifying the situation. Your blog post from the 25th Feb states an expected minimum 10% adjustment, I can't vouch for other coffees but 33% over what I'd normally purchase is 3x more than the expected minimum which is a significant difference. I purposefully don't buy in large quantities to buy more frequently to keep it fresh and it's all for personal use and the quality is a far cry from the £10 bags 1kg I used to get from Amazon. I'd need to buy 4kg now to get similar value compared to prices prior to 1st March and I don't have the means to keep 4kg of coffee fresh for the 4-5 months it'll take to use.

I ordered just before Christmas and was told that the last post had gone. They phoned back and said that they'd persuaded the postman to take the package. Instead of having to wait until New Year I received my tea just before Christmas. Thank you.

I've been buying Butterworth & Sons coffee for over a year. I've tried most of the range as it comes and goes, and will continue to work my way through whatever they put on their website. Thanks to the guys in Bury, I've managed to get the best out of all the coffee I've bought, tried various different brewing methods, and explored the huge range of flavours that coffee beans can produce. The guys are knowledgeable, helpful and genuinely care about their products, and about doing business with the farms in a fair manner. This is reflected in their coffee, which is always tasty, balanced and delicate. A refreshing change from over-roasted, too dark, muddy coffee. My only complaint is that they haven't opened up a shop closer to home! Luckily, their website and click & collect service is slick, too.

Long overdue review. Discovered Butterworth & Son during the pandemic. Thought it was some of the best coffee I ever had and was a little treat during some incredibly low times. In one of my orders, Butterworth and Son staff wrote me a kind note and added some extras. I've been a loyal customer since. I've since recovered from the difficult times while spreading the joy they gave me when I was down -- giving their coffee as gifts, recommending their coffee and tea to friends, and even traveling with their products to far away hiking locations! Thanks Butterworth and Son :)

Hands down best coffee I’ve ever had. I’m pretty picky about my coffee and now I don’t want to buy any other.

Didn’t like the coffee at first so then I reached out to ask if they could refund me. Instead they asked me questions on my ground type and came to the conclusion that it was the wrong coffee type. They sent me a medium ground type to try and it was great. They then resent my entire order!

Bought tea online. Very quick to acknowledge sale and super quick to dispatch and receive. Packaged very well. Highly recommend.

Great selection of coffee beans to purchase, and the pick-up service is very quick with orders ready in a day or two (if not faster)! If only they had a coffee shop on-premise to provide a tasting experience or infrequent events offering the same.

I am SO glad to have found Butterworth! I have finally found a roaster that offers a single origin decaf selection!! As someone who used to work in speciality coffee and adored single origin filter coffees, but now has a very low tolerance to caffeine, I couldn’t be happier. Usually decaf drinkers are lumped with a big standard blend that nobody really put that much time & effort into. Not here! I am so grateful that someone is finally paying attention to decaf drinkers, you could argue we’re the real OGs as we’re the only ones drinking coffee just for taste…
