Peter from SunAir was fantastic! My furnace stopped working right as it started getting very cold outside, and he was able to schedule me for an appointment the next morning. He arrived on time, came prepared, and was very knowledgeable about the furnace. He diagnosed the problem very quickly and explained why there was an issue. Instead of just putting a bandaid on the problem, he completely fixed it by eliminating the part that would continue to cause problems down the line. Sun Air put in a proposal for an HVAC system we needed geared toward air quality due to severe allergies and asthma. We received quotes from 3 businesses, and all were professional and pleasant to work with during the proposal steps. As a potential customer (and former engineer) I knew what we needed was not the easiest simplest job and I had many questions and details to work out both during the proposal period and planning the system. Throughout this process Peter stayed responsive, friendly and rose to the challenge of finding the ideal solution for our home. Among the 3 proposals, Sun Air had the best solution and value and they also provided a 5 year parts and labor warranty vs 2 year from others (not including the manufacturers' warranties). Peter also made sure we knew that from start to finish he would be personally be working on the job and making sure it was done right - not sending inexperienced technicians to complete any portions of the job unsupervised. The trade off for this diligence is that the work took a bit longer than it may have otherwise - but it was more important to us that it was done correctly with quality workmanship than as quickly as possible.
Peter and his team didn't just install a standard HVAC, they designed and configured a complex system to meet all our needs which included: controlling indoor humidity to our specifications (below 50%) to reduce dust mites and mold, fresh air ventilation through the best air filtration available (to avoid having to open windows for ventilation when there is high pollen counts or poor air quality outdoors), and a zoned heat pump system to keep our small home office comfortable - all while remaining as quiet as possible.
The solution was a fully variable speed Bryant Evolution heat pump with 2 zones, a ventilating Aprilaire dehumidifier, and a Lennox healthy Climate whole house air purifier (with UV light and MERV 16) along with the ductwork to tie it all together including 4 total returns (with pre-filters on them to keep ducts and system clean) to ensure balanced airflow.
In this system, the dehumidifier controls a damper to bring in fresh air from outside on an hourly schedule through the dehumidifier (which automatically dehumidifies the incoming air as needed) the air then passes through the whole house air purifier and the heat pump air handler to heat or cool if necessary and circulate the air evenly in all rooms. The dehumidifier also operates as a regular dehumidifier ie it activates when indoor humidity rises above its set point and turns on the air handler to circulate the air around the house whether or not fresh air ventilation is active. The whole house air purifier is "hospital grade" to remove both particulate matter including pollen, mold spores and pm2.5 smoke particles as well as using activated charcoal to remove VOCs from vehicle exhaust and wood fire pollution. The zoned system controls the temperature for the home office separately, for efficiency and comfort - the computers generate a lot of heat in a small room.
Peter did a lot of work researching and troubleshooting to get the equipment to operate perfectly together. He added a WiFi module to control the dehumidifier basic settings directly from an app since Bryant doesn't allow for control of a dehumidifier through the required thermostat. He and his assistant also returned to install an addition to the ductwork necessary to fine tune the zoning and balance the airflow after we tested the system for a while.
Finally, Peter and his team were careful of our home and pets during the work, minimizing mess, disruption, and leaving things clean at the end of each work day. He communicated clearly at each step of the process and guided us through various design and configuration decisions.
In all, as a very exacting customer I can fully recommend Sun Air to execute their proposal and stand behind their work.

Search no more: Sun Air is the company to call for your heater needs. I could not be more pleased with the service I received from Pete (the owner). Stellar, on all fronts.
I have an old heating system that was malfunctioning and is probably on its last legs. Previously I had another company come out to try to diagnose the problem and fix it. They took a week to fit me in. They were late, which honestly I've come to expect in Santa Cruz for any service provider so that wasn't a huge deal. They did no fixing on the spot - just charged me a couple hundred bucks for the diagnosis, and later provided a massive estimate to get the existing system working again. And then they proceeded to text me every few days asking me if I wanted to move forward. I did not want to put that much money into a system that seems like a ticking time bomb (it's from the 1980s). And I sure as heck didn't appreciate the hard selling.
Contrast that with my Sun Air experience today. They promptly responded to my request for help yesterday, and scheduled me for the next morning. Pete showed up exactly on time. He's an extremely nice and clearly experienced/knowledgeable guy, and I immediately felt like I could trust him. He quickly diagnosed the problem. He explained what was wrong with my current heater, and advised that it would not be wise to put any more money into such an antiquated, poorly installed system.
More importantly: he did some quick adjustments that got the heater working reliably again, in a manner that will likely get me at least through the winter, buying me time to figure out how I want to solve the problem permanently. And then he gave me clear guidance on what type of new system would work best for my house, and stated that he will follow up with estimates for installing that system and removing the old one, with no hard sell whatsoever. His charge for all of this incredibly valuable service and advice? $0.
Needless to say, once I decide to go forward with a new heater install later this winter or in the spring, and whenever I need heater services or any other service Sun Air has listed on their website, Pete is the first person I will call.
Highly, highly, highly recommended.

His initial visit was prompt and courteous, with a quick and concise overview of the work that needed to be done. You will find that his can can do attitude is backed up by reassuring experience. Not only did he and his crew remove the old unit, he ended up repairing many long existing leaks under the house and improved the crawl space, in addition to installing the new Central HVAC heat pump.
We now have a super efficient method to heat the house (not the crawl space) and also have cooling for the first time in over 20 years.
