Namibia Photo Tour - June 2026 I have travelled extensively over the years, and I can honestly say this was one of the best photographic trips I have ever taken. Everything was exceptionally well organised, with a superb itinerary that perfectly balanced spectacular landscapes, incredible wildlife and astrophotography. From the towering dunes of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, the Quiver Tree Forest and the ghost town of Lüderitz, to the dramatic granite peaks of Spitzkoppe and the wildlife-rich Kalahari, every day offered something new and unforgettable. Namibia's scenery is simply breathtaking, while encounters with cheetahs, giraffes, springbok, ostriches and so much more made the experience even more special. For me, the highlight was photographing the Milky Way under Namibia's amazingly dark, crystal-clear skies. Standing beneath a sky filled with thousands of stars was truly awe-inspiring and produced some of my favourite photographs of the entire trip. I also learnt a tremendous amount. Melvin and Francis were always on hand with advice and encouragement, helping everyone improve their photography in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, regardless of experience. One of the unexpected pleasures was the wonderful group of like-minded photographers. By the end of the tour, it felt more like travelling with friends than being part of an organised trip, and I've come home with some great memories and friendships. A huge thank you to Melvin and Francis for their endless enthusiasm, organisation and the many hours they spent driving us safely across Namibia's long and often challenging roads. A special thanks also to Francis, whose local knowledge, expert guiding and patience ensured we were always in the right place at the right time and made the whole journey run effortlessly. The final gem came on our last day with a three-hour visit to Okapuka Wildlife Lodge, where we were finally rewarded with sightings of magnificent white rhinos. It was the perfect ending to an already outstanding adventure. This was not my first trip with Melvin and Francis, and it certainly won't be my last. If you're looking for an unforgettable photography tour with spectacular scenery, incredible wildlife, world-class night skies and excellent company, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Namibia 2026 I have recently come back from a great 12 day trip to Namibia. 12 days may not seem like a long time, but when you are getting up early to shoot the sunrise and then staying awake for the sunset it's a long day and combined with travelling it becomes really important to have great people, comfortable spacious vehicles and good hotels. It may sound strange to talk about these details, for a photography trip, heresy I know but you need to enjoy yourself and enjoy the trip as well as getting great photos and simply experiencing the locations and country. And you need have no worries, you will get great photos, some definite keepers you will love even years later. Melvin and Francis are really good at choosing the best location's and getting them in the best light and giving you the benefit of their experience. But it's not overbearing they both also know when to give you space to experiment and learn yourself. My second long haul trip with Melvin and Francis and it will not be my last, that says it all.

Just back from an excellent trip to Namibia with Melvin Nicholson and Francis Ansing. A special shout out to Francis, one of the safest drivers I know, and someone who wanted to seize every opportunity to take photographs as badly as I did. He looked after us not only stupidly early in the mornings, but also crazily late into the night. I'd happily travel with him again. Already booked up with Melvin on another tour later this year.

Great Experience This is the fourth trip I have taken with Melvin and Landscape Locations. That statement alone should be recommendation enough. All of his tours have been well planned, with visits to lots of interesting locations along with guidance from Melvin and his colleagues. I have just got back from Nambia which was fantastic. The landscape was varied, the locations outstanding, and the whole trip was great fun. I especially enjoyed the sand dunes around Dead Valley and the two nights ofastrophotography. Francis Ansing Melvin's colleague was very helpful and knowledgable about astro. Landscape locations specialises in small groups which lets the leaders spend more time with clients, and allowed us to travel in Toyota landcruisers where were very comfortable. Nambia is a large country and some of the journey's between locations required 4 or 5 hours driving, but the landscape was varied and where else would you have to stop to let a herd of Zebra's cross the road? If you are going to visit Nambia to photograph the landscapes or stars go with Melvin and his colleagues.

I just come back from a madeira workshop with Melvin and Chris as the workshop leader. I had never done any 'real' photography other than take a camera on holiday with me for some quick snaps, throughout the tour my images became sharper from techniques and settings advice, and i found myself begin to naturally pick out interesting frames and compositions as i wandered around the various spots we visited. I won't speak much for the island itself as it's unrelated but the guidance around it, knowledge of viewpoints and ability to change plans on the fly due to weather and conditions constantly changing were brilliant. I was a little apprehensive before the trip having never done anything like this, as to wether i would enjoy it, but i had a fantastic time with a great bunch of people and i'm even looking at booking another trip later this year. I learned a lot and have come back with (too many) amazing photos to share! A massive thanks to Chris and Melvin once again for providing such a great trip

Another Fantastic Workshop with Landscape Locations Another fantastic workshop with Landscape Locations. This was my second workshop with Melvin, and it did not disappoint. This time it was to the Outer Hebrides, to the Isle of Harris & Lewis. With a WhatsApp group to help us all get to know each other a bit before we started and to guide us to our meeting point at the ferry we checked into the lovely Harris Hotel at Tarbet, which provided a great location to go to lots of different locations (I think I counted 21 different places), with decisions taken dependent on weather conditions which were mostly favourable to us! Each of us a wide range of skills and areas of expertise from different types of photography, and it was great to learn from everyone – and post tour this has continued as we see each other’s interpretations of scenes that we had taken. We visited the Callanish stones which helped us practice our composition, ahead of a sunrise shoot later in the week. We were treated some dramatic skies between locations which made for some quick impromptu stop-offs and capture some wonderful shots. We visited a wide variety of rocky beaches and beaches at different times of day capturing some fabulous light at times, with Melvin doing some very long days on some days driving us all over Harris and Lewis. One day we had a 4.45 set off time, with a late return after an amazing evening at Magnersta. Melvin helped guide with composition as well guidance on settings, filters to use, which is not an easy task with everyone with different camera systems, expectations and how each of us visualise the landscape. With a wonderful group of people it was fascinating to see each others’ compositions and approaches to shots. On a rainy day we went through kit and filter choices. We spent some time also going through a fun session on lightroom/photoshop and it was interesting to see different peoples approaches to editing. I felt my photography really started to click again, with greater confidence in my compositions and some of the best shots I think I’ve taken and even felt inspiration to spend a couple more days on Skye afterwards and I can’t thank Melvin enough for his advice and guidance (as well as his banter!) and had a wonderful time, with him and everyone on the workshop. I would highly recommend Landscape Locations and would happily go on another tour again in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed the week on Harris and Lewis with Melvin, with the highly changeable weather adding both challenge and character to the landscape. The immersive experience in such a remarkable place was very rewarding, offering a rich blend of creativity, learning, and exploration, supported by Melvin’s extensive knowledge of the locations. Each day brought fresh opportunities, from capturing early-morning landscapes to exploring seascapes and sunsets. The group format was particularly valuable, allowing us to learn from and inspire one another, continuing afterwards. Overall, the week rekindled my passion for photography and left me feeling motivated and excited about future projects and adventures.

I had a fantastic week on the Iceland February 2026 Landscape Locations Photo Tour. Pall Petursson was our absolutely brilliant guide, driver and above all advisor on how to take great photographs of the spectacular varied landscape in Southern Iceland. Taking us to many different locations everyday - definitely packed a lot of photography in our time there. For me, it was an amazing experience seeing the Aurora Borealis on 3 nights, also glaciers, icebergs, sea stacks and waterfalls. Then on Pall’s advice using different camera settings, lens choice and composition ideas to take much better pictures than I would have taken. Definitely recommend this trip to all, an amazing experience that is so memorable that I will like to experience this again.

Just back from a fabulous trip to Hokkaido, led and guided by Francis Ansing. Francis was very familiar with the locations, and altered the itinerary slightly to meet our needs. The photography opportunities were stunning, and I learnt so regarding composition and aspect ratio for minimalist images. We went to some amazing small Japanese restaurants for dinner - really authentic, really great food. I've done many photography tours, and this is one of the few I would repeat. Not that I didn't enjoy the others, but Hokkaido was special. Francis was just lovely. A great guide, safe driver, great teacher, and lovely company. Thank you xx

Melvin and Chris are excellent guides. I have done many workshops over the last several years and this was one of the better ones. There is a high attention to detail and planning, but enough knowledge to be flexible and get the most from the location and conditions. One thing I really appreciated was that both Melvin and Chris were shooting alongside us and I think that level of engagement is very important. They were both actively looking at the scenes and exploring as photographers, which in turn was very helpful for the group. Highly recommend!

Lofoten 2026 did not disappoint. The whole week was jam packed full of locations, advice, stories and of course coffee & cake. Thank you to Melvin & Chris for their patience and to the other members of the group that put the icing on the cake and I hope to stay in touch with all of them.

Stunning Venice trip Just back from a wonderful photography trip to beautiful Venice with Landscape Locations. A big thank you to Melvin, Julia and Dean. They were excellent leaders and generous with their expertise and guidance. I am very happy with the images I have returned with as well as coming home with some new photography skills! The leaders planned a great itinerary of locations with time to explore, take lots of different photographs and enjoy the stunning scenery that Venice has to offer. The hotel was good and in a great location. The evening meals were also excellent and fun with the whole group. This is my second holiday with Melvin’s company and I can highly recommend them.

Had a wonderful experience exploring city street life, sun rise and sun set photography in Venice. A great leadership team, Melvin, Dean and Julia who took time to show us a variety of photographic locations. A great way to explore international destinations whilst enjoying photographic conditions despite the weather. I am looking forward to my next adventure with them.

Venice Just completed my first trip to Venice. Having only practiced photography seriously for last 3 years, I was not sure what to expect. It was nice that the team took us to some magical places and well organised at a time when less crowded. Pleased with my photos and enjoyed the buzz. The team Melvin, Dean and Julia all brought different attributes to the group and I felt was a worthwhile trip. I look forward to booking another.

My first photography tour and to a place on my bucket-list, Venice. Three workshop leaders: Melvin, Hasselblad man, boundless energy, a skilled and open leader; Julia, superb people and technical skills; Dean, who refuses to grow old, years of experience and into Street, nine participants, so a good ratio. Three different personalities, all with expertise, patience and great humour. There were plenty of laughs out and about and around the dinner tables. The hotel was very good and in the perfect position. Some early starts and thousands of steps across the maze-like streets and over the many canal bridges. I hope to book another tour and it will certainly be with Landscape Locations. Thank you Melvin & Co for a great experience.
