I know because I was abused as a child of age 6 from a relative that has long since passed away. I was weak from all the feelings above. I felt paralyzed thinking I did something wrong. It was my fault. I kept quiet. I kept it inside. The darkness surrounded me. The helplessness I felt was crippling. I did not understand what was going on. I had no words. One day I ran to my dad upstairs for safety. Dad understood and chased him away and told him never to come back. That was the end of the abuse.
In the early 1960s, sexual abuse was rarely discussed publicly and there were few legal protections or support systems for victims. It was largely treated as a private matter. I’m 65yrs old now.
Today is different . Kayla works hard to represent the victims of sexual abuse. Kayla continues to hold abusers and the enabling institutions legally accountable. She is so easy to talk with.
