I was quoted verbally $438 dollars plus taxes for a 40 minutes work of replacing a Laundry Sink ( I had a new laundry sink and I showed it to plumber - He told he did not need any other parts or equipment for doing the job ) and small water leakage in Garage( 1.5 feet of plastic / vinyl pipe).
I found it very expensive . I asked for a paper quote /or quote via e mail before I make a decision. Plumber told me he will send me a quote in an hour. I verified my email address with him. NEVER heard after that - no quotes.
It felt like a daylight house robbery.
First time in life I experience such a bad service. I was really shocked that how companies make money by overquoting on the price -
John -the plumber should have Fair price practise - where their plumbers offer genuine fair price to customers.
After waiting 3 days I called another reputed company listed next to John the plumber on Google.
The plumber from this quoted me $150 plus tax - work was completed in less than 40 minutes with life time guaranteed if leakage happened at joints. The plumber also did something free for me, a small issue at time of flushing the WC. In the end that New company charged me only $120 plus taxes as work was under an hour, less than what was quoted to me. NOW that's called a service -

We listen to many calls every month to ensure that it's being said on every call. We sincerely want to ensure that we are upfront and transparent!
Onto point 2, we don't charge 2-3 times more than other companies. In fact, we're well-known as being far less expensive than many of our licensed and insured competitors. It's important to note that we send licensed and insured plumbers. Depending on who you're hiring, you might not be hiring someone with the same experience, knowledge, insurance, and credentials. And trust me, it's important to hire someone that knows what they're doing. We review building codes and techniques every week during our weekly meetings to ensure our plumbers stay well-informed and do work as it should be done. There is a ton of room for error that can lead to all sorts of ongoing issues. If you've ever gotten bad plumbing done, you'd probably be happy to be dealing with a company like John The Plumber.
In regards to the written quote, I apologize, but there was a misunderstanding here. Your plumber, Eric, presented you with the price for the work, and you refused the work. When I asked him about the written quote, he was confused as you had said no to his price.
Onto the next point. Quote fees and call-out fees are very standard in the industry. Some organizations don't charge for quotes, sure. If that's what gets them business, I'm happy for them. At John The Plumber, we get work because we offer exceptional service, do high-quality and beautiful work, have an incredible warranty, same-day service, and much more. But any business can choose how they want to operate and what advantages they offer that separates them from their competitors.
What I would like to point out is our call-out fee is only $40. Most of our known competitors (licensed, insured, specializing in service plumbing) charge twice or more than we charge. And, we waive the $40 fee if you hire us - they don't. We're very fair in this regard, especially since we disclose it during the phone call.
I personally think that using words like "cheat" and "greed" is unfair in this situation. John The Plumber has a great reputation, and we're known for very fair and reasonable prices. When you hire us, you're dealing with an actual plumbing company that has a team of licensed, insured plumbers and apprentices. You mentioned two different prices: $120 plus tax and $150 plus tax. Was there more than one plumber that you hired? I have a hard time believing that a licensed plumber showed up and touched your plumbing for $120. It usually takes over 5 years to become a licensed plumber, and quite a bit of school is involved. Licensed plumbers are not cheap. I think you may have hired a handyman? Sometimes you can find good deals on Kijiji when a licensed plumber is trying to make extra money on the side. But you're gambling on who you're getting.
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with your plumbing and lifetime warranty. I don't know anyone in the industry that offers a lifetime warranty. If you ever need to use it, I'd be interested to know how it works out for you.
Our warranty is only two years, which doesn't sound that great in comparison. But I assure you, we bend over backwards to please our customers, and we honour our warranty day in and day out. I'm very proud of our warranty and our level of service. I hope you get the same with this other company.
All this being said, the customer service manager tried to call you. I hope that we get in contact with you so we can clear all this up, and figure out a solution here. I feel like the bulk of the issue in this negative review has to do with disclosing the call out fee, which we did on recording. But I'd still like to turn this around, if I can.

From the initial point of contact through to the follow up after the work was done, working with John the Plumber was a great experience. Garrett is the plumber who came to our house and did the work. I chose to book online and was contacted the next day with an appointment offer first thing the following day which I was happy to take.
I appreciated the email follow-up confirming the morning appointment window of 8:00 to 11:00.
Garrett called me the next morning to confirm the appointment and advised he would be there in about 20 minutes which he was. It was a pleasure to deal with Garreett. Personable and quick and efficient at assessing the issue which was a water hammer noise coming from the pipes which I figured were coming from pipes not properly secured. I was concerned that the problem pipe might be behind finished drywall. However, Garrett with his experience proposed installing a water pressure arrestor valve. He brought one in from the truck and showed me what it looked like and the price to install, parts and labour included.
Our older construction did not have the braided connection they typically use now, but he was able to have the part ordered and set a time to come back in a few days to do the install.
The install went smoothly, and I appreciated that he connected the water arrestor to a ½” copper T outside minimizing the amount of soldering he would have to do in the house.
Between the first and second visit, I called the office during office hours and asked if Garrett could please check a few plumbing concerns I had. He looked at each concern and was able to address each one. I was amazed that the water pressure arrester he installed solved the loud banging we had been experiencing for many years. Should have called John the Plumber many years ago!
The price was as quoted for the water pressure arrestor and a very reasonable $50 for the additional items I had him check out for me. I appreciated that all the work done was listed on the invoice. Payment options included credit card or e-transfer, and I received by email a detailed invoice marked paid while Garrett was still here. As a side note, the Gmail App on my iPhone did not display the invoice details, however the Apple mail App did and gave the option to download it which I did on my computer.
A day after the work was done, I received a detailed follow up questionnaire requesting feedback on the work done. I really appreciate it when a company goes the extra step to follow up with a customer after completing work for them. Much appreciated.
I would definitely want to use John the Plumber again for any needed work and am happy to recommend them to a friend. I asked Garrett for information on the company, and he told me John is indeed the owner, and it is not a franchise. Garrett went on to say that he has been very. Happy working their and that John treats his employees very well which is always nice to hear since it usually carries over to their workmanship.
