Great class. It is a very practical approach to self defense. Simple effective moves that allow you to end a confrontation or get away from your attacker.

I've been learning from Jason Inay for 26 years at this point, and I'm still learning. I've found Jason's teaching to meet me where I'm at physically, mentally, emotionally; the curriculum speaks to my desire for both physical exertion, and intellectual engagement. ... and we also do cool stuff with sticks and knives, all from day one :)

The Inayan System of Eskrima is not just a series of techniques and drills done for the sake of “muscle memory” or blind faith and hope that you’ll be prepared for some fantastical event choreographed in your head. It is a systematic approach to learning principles that will prepare you for real world violence. The system teaches us to see and disassemble patterns and shapes of movement, rearranging their component parts in order to structure responses to evolving conflicts across different ranges, tactics and toolsets. Form is taught but form is not the teaching. This is a meta-art and instantaneous adaptation is the motto. You cannot possibly plan for all scenarios but you also cannot hope to adapt to any if you don’t have a method of breaking free from programmed responses, unconscious limitations and regurgitation. It is a post-grad for the modern warrior.

AikiAwe! Thanks so much, being a part of your "post-grad" has been a fantastic testament to our program and training. We have beginners of course, but students like yourself that are already well versed in a tradition is great too. So glad to be a part of your continued journey.

As a martial artist with over 20 years of experience, I was blown away by the quality and effectiveness of Suro Jason Inay's Eskrima instruction. The art is highly systematic, with smart training modalities that allow students to develop practical self-defense skills lighting fast. Suro Jason Inay's masterful teaching style combines physical technique with mental and strategic preparation, creating a well-rounded approach to self-defense. He blends intensity with humor, making training both challenging and compelling. The art is historically grounded yet continuously adapting to the modern world, focusing on practical training that makes it artistic, brutal, and highly effective all at once. Stop hesitating and go try out a class!

Jason Inayan is one of the best martial arts teachers ever! He is clear concise and has carried on the traditions of his family art. The Inayan system of Escrima is a powerful art and will have you defending yourself faster than any art I know of.

I’ve have had the pleasure of training under Suro Inay for almost a year now, and it’s continues to be a powerful experience. The lessons go way beyond techniques — I learn about awareness, mindset, resilience, and how to stay sharp under pressure. Suro has a strong presence and a style that pushes you to grow, and it comes from a place of care and commitment to your progress. He’s built a tight-knit community of people who are serious about learning Filipino Martial Arts and willing to put in the work. This is a return to martial arts for me, and I’m genuinely excited for the growth ahead. If you’re looking for real training with real guidance, this is the place!

I have been training with the Bay Area School of Eskrima since October 2013 and I have grown tremendously as a martial artist, and as a person overall, through all the teachings I have received from all the instructors. Not only has my confidence in my Eskrima abilities grown, but my overall confidence in life has grown and I am truly grateful for that.

Suro Jason Inay exceeded my expectations as a Filipino martial arts instructor. He has a unique approach that enables the unskilled and unfamiliar to become skilled and familiar in a dynamic period of time. His vast knowledge of the art and adjacent arts, years of experience and depth of wisdom is worth investing time and energy to learn from and have access to. He’s an inspiring leader, teacher and role model while bearing the great responsibility as head of the system. For anyone curious and brave enough to open this door, Suro Jason is more than accommodating to welcome you into this school and ensure your success. All it takes is a phone call and a face to face conversation to understand expectations prior your first class. They offer group classes, private lessons and other educational resources for advancing personal training. The qualified instructors and advanced students help facilitate the general student development experience. Having been a novice student in the middle of a pandemic, the quality of learning remains consistent between participating in small groups to a full assembly hall. The lessons aren’t only a physical awakening. They can also be a mentally and emotionally challenging experience that benefits student learning and personal character development.

On a whim I checked out the XMA Gym as I've stepped away from martial arts for way too long (over a decade) and missed it. I've taken mostly "traditional" martial arts like TaeKwonDo and Jiu Jitsu so thought this would be a good change. I have been thoroughly enjoying Inayan Eskrima for several years now as its a wonderful system that combines sticks. blades, and empty hand into something that can be adapted to any situation whether you're sparring for fun or performing self defense. Suro Jason and the other instructors all have decades of experience and are as patient as they are skilled so basically anyone can come in as a novice and be guided by instructors and other students. I highly recommend BASE if you want to learn FMA (Filipino Martial Arts)!

All that is said about what makes Eskrima awesome is true, but what makes it so much better under Suro Jason Inay's tutelage is that he makes it and keeps it real, as in real world situations. The class, as a whole, is welcoming and everybody supports each other. It's worth checking out at least once!

Mighty and powerful are words I would use to describe results in myself after so much invaluable learning on 2 years of training with this Eskrima group. Learn to move past fear, to defend yourself and loved ones from both physical and emotional damages with combat tested Inayan principles derived from a strong warrior lineage and delivered by uplifting instructors with transformative growth mindsets.

While I haven’t been to BASE, I attended Suro Jason Inay’s seminar in Tacoma. His methodology makes learning fun and easy, while also being informative and effective. I learned quite a bit in four short hours. I can’t recommend his seminar enough

Inayan Eskrima is a martial art that is both highly practical and efficiently elegant. Suro Inay is an amazing instructor whose approach blends a deep understanding of the art's history and evolution, real-world experience, and research into the most effective teaching methods. This school is a great place to train, whether you're brand new to martial arts or a current student of another art looking to expand your perspective.
