The team of teachers at illume are always so friendly and helpful. Their notes are also very comprehensive yet well summarised so its easy to learn. Together, they really ensure that all students are illuminated. Really thankful for the warm and engaging experience which transformed my grades from U to A!!
Poor management and culture
The management and workplace culture at illum.e Education can feel toxic. Behind the image they project, their priorities seem frequently driven by numbers, with a tightly controlled online reputation.

I am quite disappointed with my experience at this tuition centre. One of the main concerns is that some lessons each month were conducted through pre-recorded videos for students to watch at home, yet the centre still charged the full lesson fee as if they were normal in-person classes. This did not feel reasonable given the reduced level of interaction and support provided.
Another issue arose when I decided to withdraw my daughter from the centre. Initially, I was informed that the 2-week deposit paid could be used to offset the final 2 weeks of lessons. However, they later changed their position and claimed that a full one-month notice period was required, requesting me to pay additional lesson fees. They also stated that if I refused to pay, the 2-week deposit could not be used to offset the lessons. In the end, I decided to forgo the deposit instead, as I did not see much improvement after joining the centre.
Overall, the experience was disappointing and not what I expected from a professional tuition centre.

For our GP programme, certain lessons are intentionally conducted through our structured lecture system. These are not simply pre-recorded videos replacing lessons, but form part of a broader teaching model designed around how students learn, absorb and revise effectively. The lectures focus heavily on core conceptual understanding, thinking frameworks and foundational approaches that students often do not encounter elsewhere. Certain concepts also require significantly more depth and unpacking than a traditional face-to-face lesson may practically allow, particularly when students benefit from the ability to pause, revisit and rewatch key explanations at their own pace. Our aim is not merely to deliver content, but to equip students with transferable ways of thinking that can be applied across different question types and examination contexts.
As such, describing these sessions simply as ‘lectures’ or ‘videos’ does not fully reflect the role they play within the programme. They are a central component of our pedagogy and are intentionally integrated with teacher guidance, practice systems and consultation support. During lecture weeks, students also attend one-to-one or small-group consultations where teachers diagnose learning needs, clarify misconceptions and help close specific gaps. Over the years, many students have consistently shared that some of the most valuable aspects of this model are the personalised consultations and the ability to revisit difficult concepts and rewatch lessons before examinations, allowing them to revise at a pace suited to their individual needs.
Beyond this, students are also provided with complimentary consultation support outside of the scheduled programme structure whenever additional help is needed. These sessions often become highly personalised and, at times, resemble one-to-one guidance that other centres may separately charge for. Throughout your daughter’s time with us, our team had also extended opportunities for additional support and encouraged participation in the learning resources available. As with any educational programme, outcomes are often strongest when students actively engage with the support structures provided, though we recognise that every learner’s journey and preferences are different.
Regarding the withdrawal matter, we would also like to clarify that our withdrawal notice policy and deposit terms have remained unchanged and have always been stated in our enrolment terms and conditions. Unfortunately, an incorrect explanation was provided by a part-time administrative staff member and was corrected once the error came to our attention. We understand that receiving conflicting information can understandably be frustrating, and we sincerely apologise for the confusion caused. The staff member involved is also no longer with the organisation.

Mr Chia played the biggest role in helping me achieve an A for GP during my A Levels. Before attending his classes, I was completely clueless about how to write good essays, as the help given by my school teachers was too vague and confusing. I am very grateful to Mr Chia, who taught me how to use illum.e’s very own skill sets to dissect question types and keyword types, which are the keys to answering any type of essay question.
I truly appreciate that in every single lesson, Mr Chia made it a point to review every student’s answers and provide personalised feedback to target the weaknesses in our responses and teach us how to improve. I also liked that he engaged with his students in class to ensure that we were following him and to liven up the atmosphere. I was also pleasantly surprised when I wrote at least three additional essays for Mr Chia to mark and he returned them to me with fully annotated scripts showing where I could improve. Every piece of feedback was immensely useful. (He was not obliged to mark them at all.) This showed his dedication and responsibility towards helping his students.
As for comprehension, I went from barely passing to getting an A during prelims. Similarly, I would credit this improvement to Mr Chia. He was very encouraging, even when the class struggled to paraphrase certain words.
Finally, even though I only joined his classes in April of J2, I was able to see myself doing better in GP at school after applying the feedback Mr Chia gave. This shows how experienced he is in knowing exactly what his students need to do to perform better in the subject.

Worse tuition centre ever. Only care about money and nothing else. The admin doesn’t have time to pick up my call but has the time to call the assistant manager to call me back. I guess I’m not a valuable customer of theirs. So even the admin doesn’t even want to pick up my call. The assistant manager is worse. When I thought she called is to listen to my frustration, I was totally wrong. She sounded impatient. She was fast to pinpoint my fault and said that I’m harassing her staff and I’m not the only customer in their shop. Those are her exact words. Disappointing. I’m still waiting for the manager to call me which I don't think he/she will call because I’m just an annoying customer to them. In the event that there’s any issues, I don't think the management will help the customers in any way cos we are just troublemakers in their eyes.

My English teacher, Mr. Chia from Illum Education (Jurong East), played a huge role in helping me achieve a B3 in my National Examinations.
When I first joined in mid-May, I was barely passing with around 50 marks. Even close to Prelims in late July, I was still stuck at 55 and extremely worried about my actual exams. After consulting Mr. Chia, the improvement I saw within just three weeks was honestly insane.
He didn’t just teach me content; he fixed my exam strategy. For Paper 1 (especially Situational Writing), I used to write the wrong things and overwrite. He taught me how to write less but include the right points to score higher. For Paper 2, I used to struggle to find answers in the passage, but after his guidance, it became much easier.
What really stood out was his care and dedication. Despite being busy, he still took time to mark my extra work and patiently answer my questions after lessons. He always checked in to make sure I had no doubts.
If you want results, Mr. Chia is the teacher you need. Highly recommended.
