What a great B&B. The location is set in the middle of Missouri’s wine country and along the Katy Trail State Park. Host was exceptionally friendly and a great cook for breakfast. Highly recommend this B&B!
We had the most wonderful stay and can’t say enough great things about our host, Kelly—she is truly awesome. From the moment we arrived, she made us feel welcomed, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. Her attention to detail, kindness, and local knowledge elevated the entire experience and made the stay feel extra special.
The HS Clay is not only historic but it’s charming, cozy, and perfectly maintained—exactly what you hope for when escaping for a relaxing getaway. Every morning felt thoughtful and inviting, and it was clear how much heart Kelly puts into the place.
The Christmas Walk in Augusta, MO was the perfect complement to our stay and is absolutely worth the trip. The town transforms into a festive, storybook setting with beautiful lights, historic charm, and a warm holiday atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in. Being able to enjoy the Christmas Walk and then return to such a welcoming B&B made the experience unforgettable.
If you’re considering a holiday getaway—or any visit to Augusta—this bed and breakfast is a must. Between Kelly’s exceptional hospitality and the magic of the Christmas Walk, we’re already looking forward to coming back.

Greatly enjoyed my stay here, for my last night riding the Katy Trail. House and grounds are beautiful and relaxing, and the owner is very nice. She even offered to come in early and make a breakfast for me, as I had to leave prior to the usual time for breakfast. My room was well decorated, spacious and very comfortable. They have a garage for securely storing bikes.

I checked in for a night at H. S. Clay House on Oct 15 while completing a ride on the Katy Trail. It’s a charming home right in the middle of Augusta just up the bluff from the trail. Kelly Dolan is a most hospitable hostess, the rooms well appointed and comfortable, and the breakfast was the best of the trip by far. I would certainly enjoy a stay at the H. S. Clay House my next time through the area.

I had a fantastic stay at this charming bed and breakfast! The morning breakfast was absolutely excellent—fresh, delicious, and the perfect start to the day. The historic rooms are beautiful, full of character, and incredibly comfortable. After a long bike ride on the KATY Trail, the cozy TV room was the ideal place to relax and unwind. The owner is genuinely friendly and welcoming, which makes the entire experience even better. And ending the day with a refreshing dip in the pool was a real treat. I highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking for comfort, hospitality, and a peaceful place to rest.

This is our “go to” B&B in Augusta. We love the “Cabernet room” (in the attic). The breakfast is always amazing. The pool is nice for the hot summer days, and the hot tub is great for relaxing at night all year round.
If you stay at HS Clay House, you also need to try Root Food + Wine which is only 1 block walking distance. Have some French-inspired gourmet food and drinks and then walk back to HS Clay House…no driving needed!

Charming bed and breakfast located near multiple wineries. Our room was clean and comfortable and we felt right at home. Kelly was a wonderful host and offered great recommendations for winery excursions as well as dining. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and highly recommend it; would definitely stay again.

The house was beautiful throughout! All the bedrooms were very nice and the whole house was decorated so beautifully. The house had a pool and hot tub with towels and robes provided. Our hostess was so friendly and accommodating and made us a wonderful breakfast in the morning. So everything was great except that we were riding bikes and it is at the top of the hill, but so is all of Augusta. If you're driving, no problem. I would love to stay there again.

Beautiful place. A welcome respite after a long day on our bikes on the KATY trail, including heavy rain, hail, wind and threats of tornadoes. Kelly was a wonderful host and even helped arrange a ride to the Miss Augusta boat dock when we found out there was no taxi or uber nearby. Her gourmet breakfast was awesome, the best meal on our entire 6 day trip! She even prepared it earlier than the rest of the guests since we wanted to leave early. I highly recommend this place, especially for KATY trail bikers. The only downside would be the long hill up from the trail, which i felt fortunate we didn’t do since we got a ride there to avoid the storm, but it will be worth it.

I've had the pleasure of staying here twice. Can't say enough nice things about the property or the host. Both trips I was on a bike and talk about an oasis! Augusta is a beautiful community and H S Clay House is just a magical place to relax after a 40 mile head wind from Hermann! Be sure and plan your trip so you can walk to Root and have a culinary experience as well. Our Host fixed us breakfast and it was amazing! Fueled our bike ride into St. Charles!
