Lovely choice in Tortuguero. Very modern and comfortable ☺ The best part of our stay here were the staff, so kind and so helpful. A special shout out to Cooper the manager, Sofia our driver, and the lovely ladies at breakfast. Incredible location with sea front but short walk into the town centre. Exceptional service arranging transport and tours, we booked transport from San Jose and to Cahuita as well as a night tour and a boat tour - all went as planned. Room very comfortable and spacious, good beds, and lovely decor (we booked slightly bigger option). Breakfast was good and plentiful. Overall quiet and were able to get good nights sleep here. Very much recommend this hotel! ☹ The only small complaint I would have is that our shower wasn’t properly cleaned before we arrived - there was a lot of hair balls from previous guests. The room was cleaned in the morning and evening time on day one, which we read was the norm there, but then it didn’t happen again in the evening times after that so the room did accumulate quite a bit of sand.

Das Hotel Serendipity ist eine Oase in Tortuguero. Die Zimmer sehr sauber und groß, ein super sympathisches und hilfsbereites Team, das beste Frühstück, grandiose Touren (haben morgens die Bootstour und eine Nachtwanderung gemacht) und top Lage, nah am Zentrum und Nationalpark. Ja, morgens kräht ein Hahn sehr laut und ausdauernd, der Bootsanleger in La Pavona ist unübersichtlich ohne Ende und wenn es regnet, ist das laut auf dem Dach. Das tut einem wirklich tollen Aufenthalt aber keinen Abbruch. Vielen Dank an das Serendipity-Team!

Increíble lugar lleno de vida natural ☺ Este es un lugar mágico que protege la vida en la naturaleza, con sus faros rojos para no alterar el hábitat, tiene paseos par ver lagartos, aves y monos y puedes desayunar mientras los monos cara blanca juegan a tu lado, los amaneceres hermosos y los atardeceres con su cuelo que se pinta de tonos plateados y el mar pareciera mercurio y la playa negra refleja el gris, como si estuvieras en otro planeta, el personal cálido y entregado a hacer de tu experiencia algo inolvidable, pero estás en una isla que cuenta con todos los servicios mientras caminas por sus callecitas y tienes un sendero el del Jaguar muy bello y pesado por la humedad, tiene un cerro que fue un volcán hace millones de años y desde donde vez todo un panorama mágico, es simplemente maravilloso ☹ Pues creo que hay poco que quejarse de este lugar es en general toda una experiencia

We just had the most amazing time there! We had full board and took three hotel tours: the morning canal tour, afternoon Tortuguero hill tour, and night tour. All our tours were with Johnny who is extremely knowledgeable and eager to answer all of your questions. He was very enthusiastic about the wildlife and fauna, which he is studying to become a more fully certified conservationist. The food was absolutely delicious, nutritious and prettily presented. Jayleen is such a talented chef. It was so rich and plentiful that we had to skip lunch. You have two choices for each meal and you set your own time. Dinner came with beer and wine. The staff was wonderful, so personable and pleasant (shout-out to Saraj!). The rooms were super clean, water pressure and temperature were great, the AC worked, clean water in the fridge. The hotel itself is in a shantytown neighborhood, but totally safe and eye-opening about life in a small town in CR. We were there in early March, and the weather was pretty good. It rained once at night and a couple of times a bit in the morning. You must do the Jaguar Trail (right by the hotel), but do have someone at the reception help you with your required day passes. The Sea Turtle conservatory is worth visiting. Karol or Cooper at the reception arranged for us to be picked up at the port, which was helpful because at first you will be rather confused by the winding little alleys to the hotel. However, you will find your way real quickly because you just stay on the oaved sidewalks. If we come back, we will definitely stay here again.

Fantástico ☺ Super aardige mensen! Je wordt vanuit de haven van Tortuguero opgepikt met je tassen dus je weet meteen waar het is. Het is 5min lopen en dan zit je ook heerlijk aan zee. Kamer is prima, lekker met airco. Ontbijt kan je kiezen tussen continentaal en lokaal, super lekker allemaal. Achter de accommodatie staat een amandelboom waar groene ara's graag komen ;) Voor een heerlijke plek met alle restaurants in de buurt, zonder dat je een watertaxi hoeft te nemen, moet je hier zijn! Een dikke aanrader! ☹ We hadden last van een lekkage in de badkamer, maar dit is de volgende dag direct opgelost!

Un accueil certe mais une déception sur le rapport qualité/prix ☺ La proximité avec l’océan. L’accueil du personnel. ☹ Le rapport qualité n’est pas du tout au rendez-vous. La chambre est au milieu d’un patio sans aération possible en dehors de la climatisation. Pour avoir fait de nombreux hôtel, on n’est clairement pas dans un 4 étoiles (tout juste 2)

Excellent stay ☺ We stayed at the hotel with my sister this february 2026. We had an excellent stay at el Deseo. The hotel is very kozy and rooms are extremely clean. Breakfast is also great but what we had liked the most was the attention received from all the staff from the hotel. They did their best to make our experience at el Deseo the best and we are very greatful for this. Alicia, Saray, Maia, José and Cooper, thank you very much for everything! You are simply the best!!🫶🏻

Nice location, but won’t stay again. ☺ The property is close to the Caribbean Ocean, and you can for miles! The second floor common area and staff made up for the deficits of this property. It wasn’t anything like what I expected. ☹ There was a really strange smell to the room. We had to point out, and have cleaned, the mold on the air conditioner vent and on the painting below it (I later saw some on the painting in the bathroom). I have asthma and I had a really hard time sleeping/ breathing in our room. For the price, the bed should have been at least a queen (not a double!) There was a twin bed in an undesirable corner. Unfortunately, we got Room #1 and there is absolutely no privacy! The blinds barely covered the windows at certain angles, and we had no windows that we could open to let in fresh air. Room #1 looks right at the reception/bar area.

Nos sorprende un poco su observación, ya que durante el desayuno se les preguntó en varias ocasiones si todo estaba bien o si necesitaban algo más y, en ese momento, nos indicaron que todo estaba correcto. Además, notamos que el desayuno fue consumido en su totalidad. También nos gustaría aclarar que el desayuno no tiene costo adicional, ya que está incluido en la estancia. El único servicio de comida que se les cobró fue una cena, la cual no forma parte directa del servicio del hotel.

This is a lovely hotel, the rooms were spacious and really well maintained, with everything you could need. The location of the hotel is perfect for its proximity to the town itself, and the food (breakfast and lunch) were delicious, especially the breakfasts! But the real star of the show were the staff. They simply couldn’t do enough for us, and even when we were rained in, they were on hand to help us! A real asset to the hotel! Highly recommended when in tortuguero!
