I absolutely would not recommend this firm.
Unless you're a large company or a high-value client, I would stay away.
I instructed Hatton James, with Chris handling my redundancy case. Unfortunately, I felt he put in the bare minimum when it came to negotiating on my behalf.
He responded to only a small proportion of my questions and often didn't answer my questions with the company's redundancy on the fly processes rather than providing the guidance I was paying for. I also got the impression that he was keen for me to sign the redundancy agreement before he went on holiday. Especially on Friday when he said timing is crucial and when I asked why his reply was I will be off from next week!
Despite charging extra to advise on the restrictive covenants, there was no real attempt to negotiate their removal, even though I made it clear that this was one of my main priorities.
Overall, the level of client care and attention was extremely disappointing. The settlement agreement was not properly reviewed with me before I signed it, and the final bill ended up being around three times higher than the original estimate, with explanations I did not find convincing.
In the end, I realised I had agreed to terms that I am not happy with.
When I recovered a little bit from the whole traumatic process ,I got in touch with them regarding this. Gareth adviced me to look for other firms because they are expensive. This is the only thing I can agree with them.
I understand that challenging a law firm is difficult, and after the trauma of redundancy, I simply don't have the energy to pursue a complaint. However, I hope this review helps others who are looking for legal support during what is already a very stressful time.
We cannot speak more highly of this firm, who dealt with my father’s case with absolute professionalism and care.
