Do not miss this trip, the ice cave is amazing!
The ice cave was my favorite part of my trip! Guide was excellent and even though the weather wasn't great, everything was beautiful. I was nervous about walking across the glacier to the ice cave, but it was completely amazing and I know I would have regretted it if I didn't do it!
An unforgettable experience
From visiting the ice cave and the surrounding snowy plains, to the black sand beach at sunset to the stunning waterfalls and mountains, this was a truly memorable tour.Jón was our guide and driver, friendly, knowledgeable and competent.

EDIT: we reached out to Gravel Travel regarding issue described below and they were very understanding and issued a full refund. Once again I don’t believe this was their fault as the weather in Iceland specifically is very unpredictable especially in the icey areas.
In short: if they say “we almost cancelled the trip because of the weather” you might want to skip the tour
We booked an ice cave tour with Gravel Travel to go see an ice cave around Katla
We grouped up at the agreed time and drove off. After a while the car got stuck in snow, and it took us around an hour more to get to near the ice cave. We had to walk through the snow and blizzard to get to the entrance of the cave.
The ice “cave” turned out to be nothing more than a small 20 meter hole in the glacier. That was it.
We stayed in there for about half an hour to an hour while another car was driving from Vik to help our car that was stuck.
That car didn’t make it in time so we walked back to our car that was still stuck, and we stayed in place for another hour or more
Then some of us had to go down and help push the car and get it unstuck.
Eventually we went back to Vik and the whole thing took around 5 hours instead of the 2 we were expecting.
All in all, I don’t think this was entirely Gravel Travel’s fault since you can’t accurately predict the weather, but that doesn’t change that they should have cancelled the tour instead of going through with it.
We basically got none of the experience we paid for

Amazing tour guide and Aurora
We had a really good experience. Pick up was fast and the bus was comfortable even though it was packed. Our driver said we were having 3-4 grade lights that day. He was very knowledgeable and loved taking our pictures. We can’t wait to see the final pics!

Amazing ice cave!
What an amazing experience, a must-do, five stars 🌟 Gunnar was a great driver and guide, first lots of stories during the 4WD off road drive through the snow from Vic. Then donning crampons to reach the exclusive ice cave in the glacier which was stunning. Watch for brain freeze from drinking directly from the glacier!Definitely planning another trip with this team.
Kayla Ice Cave, Small but Mighty
The trip to and from the cave was a cool experience in a massive monster truck. The cave itself was smaller than we expected but it was really interesting. Guide gave everyone ample time for photos and gave advice on the best way to take them. Mid day was best time to go, the winter light was perfect.

The experience was amazing. We went with our guide Sultan who took us hunting for auroras and gave his best to find them and take the best pictures. Importantly, Sultan was very passionate about his work, which is passed on and enjoyed. We were able to learn from this phenomenon thanks to everything he told us and explained.

Our family went on a 4 by 4 Northern Lights tour with photographer and it was tremendous and! Our guide Sultan is very passionate about providing his clients with the upmost experience! He was determined to show us the Northern Lights and he succeeded - it was breathtaking! And the photos that Sultan took came out great - they captured the beauty of the lights as well as the fun that we all had! I could not recommend more!

We are so happy to book our tour with your services. Hotel pick up was on time, the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, he did everything to make our tour memorable and superb. It was good that having 4x4 vehicle as a mode of transportation as we were able to go off-road to reach a great spot for Northern light. A cup of hot chocolate was also very nice. 5 Stars, thumbs up, and we will definitely book their tour again if we have a chance to visit Iceland.
Davy and the great Glacier!
Our party was large enough that we got our tour all to ourselves. Our tour guide, Davy (David) was absolutely Amazing and one of the highlights of our trip. He was very informative and extremely personable. He shared his experiences with us and a lot of the great folklore of the land. Thank you, your very favorite Viking family... Yes - one of us left a faceprint in the slide of the glacier! Thank you, Kim!
We joined the Katla Ice Cave Tour with Gravel Travel in mid-September, and it was an amazing experience!
They have their own private ice cave, which meant our group got to spend plenty of time exploring inside — even trying out some glacier ice chopping with a pickaxe!
Our guide, Bjorn, was fantastic — very knowledgeable about the glacier and Icelandic nature, and he kept the whole trip fun with his great sense of humor. I’d definitely join another tour with him next time I’m in Iceland.
The adventure truck was awesome — a heavily modified off-roader that took us across rivers, up slopes, and to some truly breathtaking viewpoints.
Highly recommend Gravel Travel for anyone looking for a fun, well-organized, and unforgettable glacier tour!

Sehr tolle Highland Tour von Reykjavik. Trotz schlechtem Wetter war es eine super Tour und „Jon“ ein toller Fahrer. Sehr empfehlenswert für alle Altersklassen.
