Definitely avoid.
We didn’t even get the chance to try this place. When we tried to order a drink, the waitress bluntly told us that this is a restaurant and they would not serve us unless we ordered food. Really disappointing attitude and a very strange business approach.
I also saw a previous review mentioning the same experience, which the restaurant denied in their reply. Well, no — there’s no mistake here. It was definitely YOU.
PS: It also really shows the attitude of the place that they copied and pasted the exact same reply they had previously used when someone else complained about a similar issue.

It says it’s open but the waiter told us it’s closed - so 1 star from me as we took our time to visit and had to look for another place.

We would like to clarify that our restaurant is open all day with continuous hours. In the afternoon, due to the high flow of guests, we occasionally need a few minutes to refresh and reset the dining room, but we remain open. Our waiter kindly asked you to wait just a moment before seating you, but you chose not to wait and left. We’re truly sorry for the misunderstanding.
We hope you’ll give us another chance in the future, we’d be happy to welcome you properly.

Seconda volta a Matera in vacanza e scoperto casualmente questo ottimo locale con prodotti locali notevoli e menù variegato. Ottimi i vini e le birre di loro produzione. Servizio molto attento. Petit bijou dans le cœur des Sassi à Matera : l’ambiance du bistrot est chaleureuse, avec des touches modernes tout en restant ancrée dans la tradition locale. Le service est très agréable, attentionné et souriant.
Côté cuisine : de beaux plats typiques, comme les orecchiette ou cavatelli aux saveurs aiguillonnées (le fameux « peperone crusco » etc.) sont vraiment réussis. Le cadre avec vue partielle sur les Sassi ajoute au charme.
Je recommande vivement Giù a Sud pour un repas authentique et soigné à Matera.
