Eric is absolutely awesome! First off, the guy is one of the nicest and most sincere people you’ll meet. Getting down to business, the jeans are perfect. I got a custom pair of jeans made and then I had alterations made to a pair I already had. I originally came in because jeans never really fit me right (I have an athletic build so I had big legs and a small waist). When I came in, he explained why I was having fit issues and why most alterations places can’t really fix them because they don’t have the right tools. He was able to take my pair of previously altered jeans and make them fit night and day better. The custom jeans are even better than the alterations. They absolutely fit perfect and you can tell the construction quality is great (even better than the jeans that I brought in that cost more). Plus he just adds so many little things into the jeans that make them that much more special. Again, I can’t say enough good things about Eric or his jeans. I’ll definitely be coming back.

The process couldn't be easier - bring in your favorite pair of jeans, try on the ready-to-wear model closest to it, and Eric will work with you to give or take a couple inches here and there to match the fit that you know and love. I now have a pair of jeans that fit exactly the way that I want at a price competitive with the most sought-after selvedge denim brands. There's literally no reason for me to ever buy a pair of jeans elsewhere.

There are of course, visible rivets on the outside on the stress points of the pocket seams, to reinforce the seam. On the back pockets, Eric had given me the choice of hidden rivets, which would have been only visible on the inside, but not the outside, or bartack stitching. I thought I had requested hidden rivets, but Eric did a bartack instead. But I could be mistaken on what I had requested. Generally, rivets are considered to be the best method to reinforce the seams at their stress points, but since I’m not a coal minor or railroader, I’m sure the bartacks will work just fine. As a matter fact, for this style of bespoke jeans, the bartack is the preferred method of reinforcing the seam, due to the cleaner, more finished look, so I’m not even upset.

I wore them all day the first day I got them, and I would describe them as being comfy. I’ve never had a pair of Japanese denim jeans that were comfortable right out of the box. I chose a straight leg and hemmed. I like the way they drape. Some straight leg jeans are too wide at the bottom for me, but these are just perfect. They are a little narrow, but not as narrow as a tapered leg would be. Overall, exceptional quality, craftsmanship and artistry.

Fitted Underground Jeans Review

From the moment I put them on, I loved the fit. They fit me like a glove. The measurements were spot on. Normally you would choose a low, mid or high rise, but Eric was able to build them with a mid rise in the back and low rise in the front.

I inspected them inside and out, and didn’t see any concerns with the quality of stitching. I picked a traditional gold thread, which is visible on all of the exterior stitching. Eric did a red thread for all of the interior stitching. You can see it on the inside of the pants cuff and on the backside of the belt loops.

There are a number of subtle details that would go unnoticed or unappreciated by the casual observer.

I made an appointment to visit Fitted Underground after stumbling upon their YouTube video. I was in the market for a new pair of selvedge jeans and regretted not picking one up during a trip to Japan last year. After learning in the video that Eric sources his denim from Japan and incorporates Brooklyn-inspired details into his pieces, I knew I had found my next pair.
