Top 4 Pregame Food Spots Near Madison Square Garden (All Under $50) If you’re heading to a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, don’t waste your money on overpriced arena food before tipoff. I spent the day exploring some of the best food spots within walking distance of MSG, and every stop came in under $50. Whether you’re grabbing a quick slice, craving tacos, or looking for a legendary halal platter, these are my top four pregame food spots before catching a Knicks game. 1. Joe’s Pizza You can’t talk about New York food without mentioning Joe’s Pizza. Located just minutes from Madison Square Garden, Joe’s serves up the classic New York slice that tourists and locals both love. The crust is crispy, the sauce has the right amount of flavor, and the slices come out fast, making it a perfect pregame stop. While walking around the area, the atmosphere was incredible. Times Square was packed, and there was even a surprise performance from Buju Banton nearby, making the experience feel even more like a true New York night. Must Order: Cheese Slice or Pepperoni Slice ⸻ 2. Los Tacos No. 1 If you’re willing to wait in line, Los Tacos No. 1 is absolutely worth it. The line was long, but it moved quickly. I ordered the carne asada tacos, and they lived up to the hype. Fresh tortillas, perfectly seasoned steak, and simple ingredients done right. This is one of those places where you take one bite and immediately understand why everyone is standing in line. Must Order: Carne Asada Tacos ⸻ 3. Ebru Halal Food Cart Sometimes the best food in New York comes from a food cart. Right near the parking area by Madison Square Garden, Ebru Halal Food served one of the best halal platters I’ve had near the arena. The portions were huge, the chicken was seasoned well, and the white sauce brought everything together. If you’re looking for a filling meal before the game without spending a lot of money, this is the move. Must Order: Chicken Over Rice with White Sauce ⸻ 4. Times Square Street Food & Atmosphere Not every pregame experience is about one specific restaurant. Part of what makes a Knicks game special is soaking in the energy around Midtown Manhattan before heading into the Garden. Between the street performers, food vendors, bright lights, and crowds of fans, there’s always something happening. On this trip, catching the atmosphere around Times Square and unexpectedly seeing Buju Banton made the entire experience memorable. Sometimes the vibe is just as important as the food.
