My wife has had dementia and Parkinson's for the last 5 years. 10 months ago, my daughter and I started looking for a memory care facility in my area of Huntley. We picked out 4 facilities. One with just memory care and 3 with the 3 levels of care, housing with some nursing care as needed, memory care, and Alzheimer's care. When we walked through the 3 facilities with 3 different care levels, I noted that the housing got the most attention with memory and Alzheimer's a distant second and in some cases the difference was quite stark. What we saw at Encore was very different. What you saw as you walked in the main entrance was an office left and right and a large main living area with seating for 20+ patients in a semicircle and the director of entertainment playing games with them. This entertainment includes musicians, singers, magicians, etc. besides the games, every day with smiles, laughter and applause. The ratio of staff to patients is amazing.
After my wife's residence for 9 months, I can say that Encore Memory Care provides excellent services to their patients, by providing help and challenging patients to improve their memory.

The staff consistently demonstrate professionalism, skill, care, and dedication in their duties—they show wonderful attitude and patience while treating residents with respect and kindness. Looking back, I wish I had considered Encore as an option several years ago; it’s clear now that their approach would have made a meaningful difference for him then - as it does now.

Placing my mom in memory care happened very quickly, within just a few days. My dad and I were not only looking for a place that could accommodate us on such short notice, but one that would truly care for her and treat her like family.
We are so grateful we found Encore Memory Care. From day one, they made us feel like family. The entire process was seamless, and most importantly, they provided exceptional, compassionate care for my mom.
They also understood from the beginning that we would eventually be looking for a place closer to home, since Crystal Lake was a bit far for regular visits from family and friends. After six months, when we did find a location closer to us, Encore made that transition just as smooth and supported us every step of the way. It was truly hard to say goodbye.

My mom moved into Encore Memory Care a week ago. All of the staff and management at Encore are very compassionate and very responsive. Communicating with them is so easy. The facility itself is very clean and welcoming. I would highly recommend Encore in Crystal Lake for your loved one.

Do you have a loved one with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease who requires additional care and stimulation? Then Encore Memory Care should be at the top of your list.
My mother was not a social butterfly, and she was apprehensive about living away from “home.” Within an hour after arrival on her first day, mom was smiling and engaging in activities as if she had been living at Encore for a long time. Mom even was the center of attention when Abednego (a comfort dog) arrived for his bimonthly visit.
The staff (administrative, nursing, care assistants, etc.) provide tender loving care for each resident. Placing a loved one in a care facility can be stressful, but the staff at Encore will put you at ease.
Residents engage in numerous activities throughout the day; they are not stuck in a corner and ignored. Every activity challenges the residents. The types of activities vary each day, including weekends and holidays. Tasty meals and daily snacks keep residents physically healthy. Each resident has a detailed care plan that addresses their every need.
Mom’s residency at Encore was short with her unexpected passing to eternal life, but her family is thankful that she had a rewarding experience at Encore. We highly recommend Encore Memory Care!

My mom lived at Encore in Crystal lake for two and a half years. She was well taken care of, they have a very compassionate staff. My mom felt loved! She was comfortable there and enjoyed the daily activities. She especially liked it when they went on field trips with the bus. I was fortunate enough to chaperone one of those trips, mom and the other residents were so well looked after, it was amazing! My mom passed away in November. I fell that the staff at Encore made her time there enjoyable.
It’s a great place! I’m thankful for everything they did for mom.

I would never go to this place again! If you care about your loved ones do not go here! The nurse Rachel and Welcome Jennifer are spectacular! The director and one of the head nurses needs personality lessons! When I moved my mother out her sheets were gone! (They did replace them) the sheets that were on her bed were filthy! Bought her a brand new bed when she moved in there thinking it would be great! Well the mattress had a huge stain on it! Here is the kicker I bought a very expensive mattress cover for this reason! Things broke never was told! Leaving them to sit for hours at a time! All my mother wanted to do is watch her cub game in her room when it was on (was promised she could do that) brought her recliner and had to fight tooth and nail for that to happen! She fell 3 times in 1 month hummm (she is wheelchair bound) And there call string is only in the room!?!?! Thin tiny string they expect these people to find this in the middle of the night??? No way to call anyone when you need to go to the washroom when you are left to sit in a general room! Was promised the world and it never delivered! It may be memory care but maybe they think the patients don’t remember, well fortunately my mother does! I caught them verbally abusing my mother while she called me on her cell phone asking me to call them for help because she was sitting way too long! I could go on and on! It was just one excuse after another! And I am not hard on people at all! But you pay over 10,000 for one month I think she deserved better! If I can save anyone from the heart ache I went through then I will feel better! I did complain to corporate but I see where that went they never responded! I don’t expect a 100% but if they treat everyone like my mother I can’t even imagine!
My mom has been in Encore a little over two years and has been treated very well. Staff seems to be very attentive and the residents seem to be very well taken care of. There are plenty of activities to keep the residents busy and it is clean.
One of my only complaints is they have a transportation van that is never utilized. This weekend it sat in the parking lot as well as many other weekends. I was told it is shared between the Bolingbrook and Barrington locations, but when it comes to Crystal Lake, it is never used. It would help family members and give them a break from taking their loved ones out. I know many residents have severe dementia, but there are some that would understand like my Mom and enjoy maybe seeing different scenery than the inside of the building all day.
When I asked in the past when it will be used, they said it had to be wrapped and that’s all done and it looks beautiful. Then something about the person driving it needed to get a special license…but that was many months ago, so just wondering what the holdup is. 🤷♀️ I did bring it up to the new director of wellness, so hopefully it will change 😊
I cannot speak highly enough of Encore Memory Center in Crystal Lake. My mother has been a resident there for just a little over a year now and it was the best decision we ever made. She is safe and cared for and loved. The staff at Encore is always so kind and friendly, the exact traits you want in caregivers who are looking after your loved ones. What puts Encore above others for me is the fact that the residents have free rein of the entire facility, not just a room in the back corner of a larger facility. My mom is also challenged daily by the activities and games that both Shannon and Annie put together on a daily basis. You can trust your loved ones aren’t just parked in front of a tv all day. I highly recommend this facility to anyone who has a loved one with Alzheimer’s. If you have to make the difficult decision to move them into a facility, this is the one you should choose! 💜
I would like to express my appreciation to Executive Director Lyric. My wife Gail is a resident of the Crystal Lake facility. I was rather nervous and perplexed as I moved Gail from Clarendale Assisted Living to Encore. Lyric was very professional and put me at ease. She explained everything in detail and asked for my input. After talking with her, she put me at ease. Gail has been at Encore a month. I have met Lily, Maureen, Maggi and Shannon. All of her staff on the scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest, I would rate them all 10. All staff are pleasant and caring. I feel I made a good choice sending Gail to Encore. Please take note you very lucky to have such good professionals. Good team members are hard to come by. I was in the work force for 50 years, so I speak from experience.

The nurses Maureen, Magie and Roxanne are attentive, responsive and fun. The entire staff is wonderful, I couldn't imagine better caregivers for my father. The director of nursing needs a class in professionalism and common courtesy. The director of nursing did not know who I was nor was the one who initially left me a message. The director of nursing is not above the managing director or executive director, but she thinks she is the way she talks to customers. Furthermore, if the way the director of nursing treats others is any reflection of how new customers are treated when inquiring about the facility, or returning phone calls then run far away from Encore of Crystal Lake. If she treats a complete stranger like trash and with utter disrespect then I’d hate to know how individuals are treated within the facility as associates and family loved ones are treated as residents. The director of nursing needs to be fired after completing a class in phone etiquette 101 - identity yourself and your position. Vile personality. I’ve had working experience in over five AL/ALZ facilities; private home health, and she is terrible. Run far away.
Encore and Staff are AMAZING! Jennifer is a joy to work with, and is compassionate and very informative. I suggest anyone looking for an all inclusive Memory Care facility to take a tour or speak with Jennifer to learn about the many amenities Encore offers to their lucky residents.
