Dutchess Optometry provided an excellent first time experience for my 2 toddlers. The staff is very welcoming and Dr. Sheedy truly has amazing patience especially trying to get my girls to focus during their eye exam after being dilated. They even went above and beyond in getting a different pair of glasses for my youngest when the original pair we ordered did not work for my 2 year old. I highly highly recommend!

It is on every page on our website. If you are not seeing the lunch closing time somewhere please let us know where so we can fix it. I can’t say enough good things about Dutchess Optometry. My mom is 84 years old, and everyone was absolutely wonderful. Dr. Lappan was kind, thorough, and took the time to explain everything in a way that made her feel comfortable. Emily, the pretester, was so patient, Gina at the front desk was welcoming and helpful, and Jennifer was amazing when helping my mom pick out her glasses. Every single person treated her with such care, patience, and respect. It truly meant the world to us. Highly recommend!

The doctors are great - the glasses not so much. I've gotten fitting glasses before, but when I recently went I received glasses that were far too thin, the temples are under constant pressure and the glasses want to fly off my face because of the squeeze. I was told that I was just imagining it because my old glasses were broken, even though I replace my glasses every year and I know what glasses feel like.
I was instructed to wear them for a couple of days and then come back, but I can already tell it's the actual frames that are too narrow, the temples have to bend at a solid 30-degree angle to reach my ears. No amount of adjusting will fix that. They never took any measurements for my head or face besides PD so it makes sense that they don't fit, and I don't plan on waiting two weeks for a replacement pair to come in and roll those dice again.
If you need an exam, these guys are great, but if you need new glasses, you should get a copy of your prescription and find people who use your measurements so you can be sure your glasses will actually fit. Or simply have a very average head size most glasses already fit. Skill issue on my end for having a big head, I suppose.
(Edit quite a bit later but still relevant: The reason they couldn't find me in their system is because I use a pseudonym online for privacy reasons.)

My fiancé had an eye injury that was causing him a lot of pain. I suggested he walk into Dutchess Optometry in Red Hook as I have had nothing but the best experiences there. Austin walked in expecting the worse as he has no health insurance and it was a hour before the office closed. The staff welcomed him in as if he were a regular patient, and Dr Lappan made time to examine his eye at the end of the business day. The service here is excellent and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and more than accommodating. I can’t say enough positive remarks about this office.

Dr. Lappan was so patient and amazing with my three young kids, making their eye exams comfortable and stress-free. Her kindness and expertise truly put us all at ease.
