I cannot thank everyone enough for all the care I received prior to, during and after my Knee replacement surgery. During my pre op assessment, Denise, the nurse who carried this out gave me advice, information and put me at my ease for what was ahead. Prior to surgery I was referred to see the cardiologist by my anaesthetist to ensure that I was safe to have surgery. This gave me the confidence to know that all checks had been made to ensure surgery could go ahead safely. On the day of admission, I was met by the receptionist and taken to my room which was well equipped and comfortable. Although I didn’t have my surgery until later in the afternoon, I was kept informed and looked after by the nursing staff on Heritage ward. Thankyou to all the nursing staff on Heritage ward who gave me such care and attention and Dr Joseph for sorting my pain. I thought attending Physio school prior to coming into hospital was very niche. It gave all who attends information of what to expect on the day, given our crutches, written information and pre operative exercises. The physiotherapist intervention I received after my surgery has been excellent. Thankyou to Dr Gowni, my anaesthetist, and Kelly the Nurse assisting him who put me at my ease and informed me at every stage of being given the spinal block, what it involved and what to expect. But I would like to make a special thankyou to my Consultant Surgeon , Mr Moholkar for his expertise, professionalism and at times straight talking ( such as advising me to loose weight prior to surgery 😊). Which I did.During any consultations he gave me time to discuss any concerns, and went through alternative treatments, outcomes and any contraindications. I was given all information to make an informed decision. The pain I was in prior to surgery was such that it was impacting both my professional and personal life. No amount of pain relief would help, and the only solution was to have a knee replacement. I am so glad I did. I followed the advice of my consultant, and the physiotherapist and went into this with a good mental attitude, best possible health which has given me a good outcome. At 6 weeks post operative, I am walking without and walking aids, and I would say almost pain free. I am well on the way to making a good recovery which is already having a positive impact on my life. Thankyou to you all for making my experience at Droitwich Spa Hospital a positive one.

All good. Two new knees - 2 & 3 years ago. I now walk about 3.5 miles easily every day. UPDATE: Never realised that the review which was requested by DKC would be broadcast across Google. Never again.

I was seen and treated at the Royal Orthopaedic hospital under the care of Mr Moholkar. I was advised that I needed bilateral knee replacements. This was a no surprise as the pain had gotten worse over the time I had waited. I made sure I had loss lots of weight before the surgery so that I had every chance of being more mobile after the operation. I was a little bit scared to have the surgery as I had suffered a previous DVT and multiple PE’S after a small procedure but I trusted my surgeon and the plans he had put in place with the team that works with him. I knew I had to follow the plan completely so it would not happen again. I followed the instructions to the letter. If I was In pain I took my pain killers I made sure I took them as prescribed yes it caused me to have constipation but that was easily remedied by taking laxatives. I must say I was apprehensive about taking all these tablets but I’m glad I did because now it’s five months since my first knee I swear Mr Moholkar is a magician, as I am pain free in my right knee. I purchased an ice maker and I used it everyday it was an amazing help with the pain. I made myself do my exercises everyday so that I would be able to bend and straighten my knee, yes it hurt but now I understand why they tell you to do them because if you do not follow the advise your recovery will be harder and not a good experience for you. Now five months on I have had my left knee replacement. I saw Mr Moholkar today in his clinic at ROH and he was extremely happy with my recovery I am only two weeks post operation I have no crutches walking normally. This is due to doing my exercises and taking my pain relief as directed by the team, yes it does hurt but as they say no pain no gain. He said although it had only been two weeks it looked more like six weeks I cannot be more grateful for him and his team. I’m still not out of the woods I have another four weeks of blood thinners so I don’t get anymore blood clots. That’s not a problem as the first knee was a success I don’t see why the second can’t be the same. I just have to follow the plan we made. I can’t wait to be pain free and be able to wear nice shoes again. Once again Thank you Mr Moholkar and the staff at the Royal Orthopaedic.

I had my first steroid injection in my right knee on 18/8/25, following the injection I have been pain free in that knee. As a result of the injection I was able to walk 5 miles without any discomfort, I would not have been able to do this prior to the injection. Due to the total success of this injection I had a steroid injection in my left knee on 6/10/25, and so far the same result. No pain. I would highly recommend seeing Mr Moholkar.

Mr Maholkar, is, what can I say, a brilliant surgeon - please note, this is MY experience and opinion with Mr Maholkar and his team. I had my right knee done at Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham under the care of Mr Maholkar and his team. Initially, I was told to lose weight as my BMI was nearly 40, so my task was to bring it down to 35 or below even before I can be considered for a knee replacement! At first, I have tried with no success as I have been overweight most of my life but I understood why Mr Maholkar kept on saying to lose weight! Firstly and most importantly, I asked the almighty for help and guidance which came.... I wrote down what I was eating and when taking into account of my job as well. I learnt I was eating the right foods at the wrong time, and the wrong foods at the right time! So I made a plan after writing everything down of what I ate in a typical week. It wasn't pleasant reading to say the least! I found out, after research as to why I was consuming so much! So I cut down initially on some of the stuff I was eating and then totally stopped! But I didn't starve to get results, I reduced! For example, as I love tea, I was having 7 or 8 cups a day, 2 sugars at a time, reduced my takeaway intake to once a week, and where possible, if I could, walk! I start doing exercise which wasn't stressful to my knees, it's amazing what you can do whilst sitting down, for example stomach exercises, shoulder and leg exercises whilst sitting down! I used the stairs at home whilst I was home as if I did fall over, I was with my family. Subsequently, I lost the weight and had my right knee in November 2021. I understand this was a metal knee. I had my left knee replaced in July 2025, and I understand this was a ceramic knee.. so what's my weight now? At one point I was nearly 150kg with a height of 5ft 8in, you could use the BMI calculator online to see what BMI I was initially if I remember correctly and now at the time of writing, I'm 84.3kg as I got weighed at the hospital 2 days ago. Mr Maholkar's push and straight talking made me understand why he continues to talk about losing weight! I understand that everybody is different and may have other medical issues, I'm now a 54 year old man who has 2 knees replaced by Mr Maholkar and I'm glad I met him, he is a great surgeon, talks to the point, no messing around and tells you as it is! Truthfully, at the end, it's all for my benefit, the aftercare is also brilliant and so is his team. He is a brilliant man, and I hope he continues to prosper in his field... Thank you so much Mr Maholkar...

Excellent care under Mr Moholkar. From the initial consultation and diagnosis of knee replacement through to the operation itself, care was second to none. The operation went very well and the aftercare too at The Droitwich Spa Hospital was wonderful. All of the staff were so helpful and caring. I am delighted with the outcome. Finally signed off by Mr Moholkar last week. Would thoroughly recommend Mr Moholkar and his team. Thanks to all, you’re amazing!

Mr Moholkar replaced my knee in sept 2023, he was concerned at my first consultation regarding my weight and advised that I needed to loose some of the excess weight for him to put me on his list explaining the benefits.. I took on board what Mr Moholkar had said and started the weight loss journey and I'm so glad I did .My operation 4 months later went smoothly and my recovery was without doubt much easier with the weight loss .Mr Moholkar is a superb surgeon and I would not hesitate to recommend him and droitwich spa hospital for any operations you may need .The physio department is also a big part of your recovery and all staff were so so helpful getting me back on my feet . Thankyou Mr Moholkar and all the staff at droitwich hospital for giving me a new lease of life .

My right knee had been increasingly painful over a matter of at least 5 years, causing uncomfortable and difficult walking. I was referred by the NHS to Mr Moholka, who explained the options very clearly, but it became apparent that complete knee replacement was ultimately the best. He carried out the operation for me in June 2023, and I cannot fault the treatment I received, both pre-op, the operation and post-op care, Mr Moholka and all the staff at the clinic were exemplary. During the first three nights in hospital the operated leg was at times painful, and it was difficult to get comfortable, but staff were very prompt in providing pain relief, in terms of physical comfort, cold packs and drugs. Once home, I was able to get about very well with the crutches provided, following the advice of the excellent physio team at Droitwich Knee Clinic, and within a week or so, was managing to walk (carefully) without the crutches. After a couple of weeks I was able to comfortably walk further than I had for several years, and after 7 weeks I was driving again. My new knee is great, allowing me to enjoy country walks, holidays, and shopping trips in town. What I value most is being able to enjoy time with my grandson, especially now he is at the toddling stage. I was lucky to have the operation before I had lost all my fitness, but I had followed advice and kept up all the activities I could, especially swimming. During my follow-up appointments, Mr Moholka examined my knee and my walking, to asssess progress, and the physio team provided excellent exercises to stretch my muscles and tendons to get the knee working effectively. Walking and swimming afterwards has also been fundamental, but the most important part of the recovery process is following medical advice! Take the pain medication and do the exercises - it’s the only way to get your new knee working at its best. I take this opportunity to thank all involved for an excellent result.

Apart from being an excellent surgeon, the thing I most appreciate about Mr Moholkar is his straight talking. He is direct and to the point, so that a consultation is always very informative and reassuring. Difficult decisions become much easier with his help and support. He performed a total knee replacement for me in July 2024, and the result has been most satisfactory. The early recovery period was not much fun, but I followed his (rather "brutal") instructions regarding pain control and an exercise regime, and the somewhat unpleasant experience certainly payed dividends. The new knee now bends (and straightens) painlessly, just as far as it did before the operation. It is almost as good as a natural knee. I have great confidence and trust in Mr Moholkar, and shall not hesitate to approach him if (more likely "when") I need the other knee replaced. My advice to prospective patients would be to follow his advice to the letter, and take whatever pain relief is necessary in order to do the exercises thoroughly and regularly. They are undoubtedly the key to a faster and more complete recovery. As an aside, Mr Moholkar suggested a very easy "diet" for weight loss and control. Basically it replaces all but the main meal of the day with a fruit and/or vegetable smoothie. Surprisingly it seems to suppress the appetite, and hunger pangs are minimised, if not completely eliminated. There is more detailed information on the Internet. One important caveat - do not buy commercially prepared smoothies. They usually contain additives that you really don't want, and preparing your own is quick, easy and far healthier. It remains only to thank Mr Moholkar for his expertiseand support, and to declare that I speak only as a very satisfied patient.
