On entering this quaint inn in Dartmoor you're met with the chef chopping up massive steaks to cook over the open fire. The whole experience added interest and the food tasted divine. The bed rooms are comfortable. And all in the most beautiful location
We went for Sunday lunch for a birthday meal with friends, the food was INCREDIBLE, staff knowledgable about the cuts of meat being served, everything was amazing. The wine list was also very good and we shared a gorgeous bottle of red. Service a little slow but to be fair they were fully booked and run off their feet at the time!

The staff were fantastic and I highly recommend if you are coeliac as they are very knowledgeable and helpful and I felt safe eating here.
We would definitely eat here again especially as itâs in such a beautiful location too!

Good food expensive and smelly
Seemed nice on entering pub, staff fairly unhelpful and poor table service, we were the first to arrive at 5 pm had to go out to the car to get a blanket as it was soo cold inside, menu very limited and very expensive, however the food was very very nice, the smoke from the grill was overwhelming and frankly disgusting we all had to go home and shower as we stank of stale steak fumes! It was apparent that some people were locals and were made a big fuss overâŠâŠ we were ignored most of the evening. Overall an interesting experience not one I would rush back to again but the food we were served was very good.
Amazing . The food was delicious, the atmosphere friendly. Driven past it so many times am so glad at last to have stopped there.

Mothers' Day Weekend 2026 - Great Time
My wife and I stayed at The Dartmoor Inn over the recent Mothers' Day weekend. We had an absolutely fantastic long weekend. We checked in on the Saturday afternoon and checked out the following Monday. On arrival we received a warm welcome from Frank and the other members of staff who were on duty at the time. The staff were brilliant throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble. We had a marvellous steak dinner on the Saturday evening followed by the best roast lunch we have had in years on the Sunday. The place was jammed on the Sunday but nevertheless the bar and waiting staff (headed up the excellent Poppy, Frank's sister) remained calm and in complete control whilst Frank somehow managed to chat with guests whilst manning the open fire grill for a good four or five hours. We hope to return soon. Thank you Frank, Poppy and team for a wonderful weekend.

Long awaited disappointment.
Booked a table for four and two rooms. The place looks awesome but found it to be style over substance. Scallop starters all round, lovely. Mains. Wife ordered fish n chips which was a lovely meal. I ordered a Ribeye and our friends ordered a tomahawk share. Food arrived. Wife was given her meal, friends received theirs with their sharing bowl of fries and veg - my steak was delivered and then I waitedâŠ.. few minutes, everyone else in our party eating and i asked someone where my fries and sides were and it was explained that the sharer that our friends were given were for three - I didnât want to share my food, I ordered a completely separate meal so several minutes and a cold steak later, I was given some extra chips. Why they thought it appropriate to blend three peoples meals? No idea. My steak was tasty but cold. Had to borrow some other sides from my friends. They said theyâd had better tomahawks from Waitrose which theyâd cooked themselves. Thereâs no fan or ventilation in the dining area so it gets Smokey - seems nice for the first ten minutes and then itâs just, Smokey! The bedroom standard was poor, only one pillow each, large cobwebs in the corners and a selection used toiletries and a used nail brush in the shower All in all, a complete disappointment and not worth the money.
Crisp clean room. Staff very friendly. Food exceptional. Noise from below didn't stop until close to midnight then night we stayed however it was a Friday night.
I would deffo go again for the food if I was in Devon. Be prepared for a level of smoke as the hot coal cooking fills the restaurant.
Canât say anything about rooms as we never stayed the nightâŠ. But the service and the food and location are absolutely amazing best meal out in a long time and service was exceptional too! Will definitely be back again and highly recommend a visit to others who havenât been! Thanks for a beautiful evening

This was awesome, we had a tomahawk steak cooked to perfection in in front of us. The service was incredible, everyone made us feel really welcome and relaxed. We were lucky enough to stay so we had breakfast as well which was also excellent. Highly recommend

** Update - owner phoned to clarify situation, apologised and offered us a return, which was much appreciated**
When I asked if there was another table I was looked at like I had two heads, even though there was another table that we were given. First choice felt like sitting in a corridor. It's nice to have a drink whilst perusing menu but weren't given that option. Menu suggests chef will cook food as to how they want but chef seemed happy with my request which was appreciated. Burger was delicious as was the coleslaw, chip were not to our taste. Seemed quite a few staff but service seemed slow. Overall just a little lacking.
