The traditional Romanian dishes were cooked to perfection. The chef, a charming lady came to greet us at the table.
The stuffed pork cabbage served with polenta and sour cream, the meatballs soup and the grilled MITITEI sausages were out of this world. What a treat !
At the beginning the oriental music was too loud but they lowered it so we could have a conversation. The music selection could be improved because the manele and oriental music is not exactly representing the Romanian tradition.
The tables were decently distanced and the sound proofing of walls and ceiling very efficient, so one is not annoyed by conversations at other tables.
I will certainly return to Danubius and bring more American friends.
The food was okay nothing special. Very expensive for average food. He was trying to push us to get Borsec. The bread was old and the price for papanași can’t believe it. Not going back.

Food tastes good, but it is not like special in any way. Grilled meat is tender. The tripe soup is pretty interesting because it is a little bit sour from the sour cream I think. It is also very cheap for such a decent size portion. Grilled cheese is like cheese stick. It was a very heavy lunch that kept me full for the rest of the day.

Feels just like home 🇷🇴
I had an amazing lunch experience at Danubius Restaurant—it truly felt like being back in Romania. The food is incredibly fresh, flavorful, and authentic. Every bite reminded me of home-cooked meals from back in the day.
The staff was extremely welcoming and kind, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. It’s rare to find a place in NYC that captures the warmth and hospitality of Romania so perfectly.
I found out the owners are from Galați, and you can truly taste the love and tradition in every dish.
Definitely coming back for dinner—if lunch was this good, I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu.
Highly recommend!

Took my dad here on Father’s Day. The food was ok, definitely not worth a return trip for me and the service was not good. Our waiter was grumpy and not friendly at all and just seemed miserable to be there. He was borderline rude. They didn’t have any Romanian beers, or wine by the glass. The meatball soup I had was just ok, I’ve had better. The grilled chicken was overly peppery and not salty enough and the accompanying fries were not particularly good either. My daughter had the polenta dish which was pretty delicious but it’s hard to mess up polenta. My dad tried the Ciolan cu fasole (pork ham bone with beans) and it was good. The service and overall atmosphere kinda ruined this dining experience for us and I would not return. I asked for to go boxes because I don’t like to be wasteful and our waiter didn’t even bother to bring me a bag to carry them in. Street parking can be hit or miss in the area.
