I have been with 1st University Credit Union for years, and the biggest reason is their customer service. Michael is fantastic with communication during the loan process. Iโll be a customer as long as theyโll have me.

First off, let me just stay with the inside of this building smells like DIRTT FEET and has for the last few years that
I've been forced into going to this location. ๐คฎ
Place is absolutely useless for shared branch members. The latest debacle is I had to use my phone and enter my ID into some qr code to put money into my account. For some reason, handing them my ID in person, with my face to match it and a deposit slip wasn't enough. But "its for my account's safety" even though I was just depositing money smh. So I proceeded to ask how I asked how I could start an account and avoid all this nonsense. I was told all I needed my I.D. and current address. Make it make sense. I was wanting to open an account here and that's out the window. There's only one branch in town. I can't use your atm to do anything but pull money out of my account and I can do that anywhere.
For bringing a shared branch location, your services are literally useless. You shouldn't even have that designation.

Edit: Although I appreciate your quick response, its not enough to keep me as a prospected customer. I will make sure that my branch knows about this issue. Using the QR to scan my ID when the employees can do the same with the physical ID seems like Im unnecessarily doing their jobs. I still know seniors with brick and flip phones that cant possibly do whats 'required' via a QR code. There has to be a work around and your people could have cared less. You should work on that.

The identification steps you experienced โ including the QR code verification โ are mandatory requirements of the nationwide Shared Branch network. These procedures are not optional, and no participating credit union is allowed to bypass them. They were put in place after the network saw a rise in fraud cases where bad actors impersonated members at unfamiliar branches, resulting in significant losses for innocent members.
Because of that, the network strengthened its security standards, and all participating credit unions must follow them exactly as written, even for deposits.
Opening an account with us follows a completely different set of federally regulated identification rules, which is why that process can appear simpler by comparison.
Regarding ATM access, Shared Branch rules only permit withdrawals for visiting members, and separately from that, our ATM is not configured to accept deposits for any user. Those limitations come from both the Shared Branch network and the way our machine is programmed, not from any discretionary decision by staff.
Our responsibility is to follow Shared Branch and federal requirements exactly as written to protect members across the network. If you have additional questions about those rules, your home credit union can also provide guidance.
