What a wonderful experience all the way around! The trip was well organized and not so tightly planned so we had time on our own to enjoy. We had to pivot a couple of times because of the weather and Fiona found replacement activities that were just fine. We covered a lot of territory and saw a lot of the country. I thoroughly enjoyed learning Romanian history and getting in depth demonstrations from the craftspeople in different areas. We also had many opportunities to join in the fun of creating our own treasures. Everything went smoothly from signing up through completing the tour. Lisa L

Thank you so much. I'm delighted you enjoyed Romania and all the wonderful craftspeople we met along the way. The weather certainly kept us on our toes a couple of times, but that's all part of travel!

It was a pleasure having you with us. Thanks for taking the time to write a review.

I recently returned from two adventures with Fiona and Creative Arts Safaris. The first was the Aral Sea extension to the Uzbekistan tour. The disappearing Aral Sea is a story that needs to be known and repeated. Flight is from Tashkent to Nukus then 6 hr over the desert drive to the edge of the sea. Fascinating nomad and Silk road history. The art museum in Nukus worth the trip by itself. Accommodations in Nukus family owned, clean with excellent service. Yurts at Aral Sea clean and comfortable. Bathrooms are shared pit toilets that took some getting used to. Great drivers who drove over the desert sands and guides who spoke excellent English. And there was an adorable baby camel sighting. Kyrgyzstan. This was the first CAS trip to Kyrgyzstan so it was a small group. My father had visited the country in 1984 and I felt a need to return and see why he had visited during the Soviet era. Very few Americans visit the Stans. This trip gave the group an opportunity to participate in the old Kyrgyzstan traditions, food and crafts that survived the Soviet domination with the new emerging culture. Felting was the focus of the tour. We made rugs, scarves, dolls. Our guide and driver were top notch. They grew up around Issyk Kuhl Lake that we drove around over 10 days. They related their personal stories. Fiona strives to help support the local women industry and craft, hotels. I could have not asked for more on this trip. Highlight was the eagle hunting day. See photo. I cannot recommend this trip more. For me a perfect balance of shopping, creating, local story telling by the guide and Fiona's researching to find off-the-beaten path local non tourist places.

Thank you Bev, it was wonderful to share these adventures with you.

We really appreciate your enthusiasm for heading off with us to some of the world’s most fascinating corners. The Aral Sea is certainly a place that stays with people - stark, beautiful, confronting and unforgettable all at once. And yes… the composting toilets were definitely a little different from our usual hotels and ensuites! But standing right out there on the edge of the Aral Sea, that really was the best option available, and somehow it all became part of the experience and story.

I loved travelling Kyrgyzstan with you too. It felt very special exploring a new destination for CAS together, hearing your connection through your father’s earlier travels there, and watching everyone dive into the felting, stories, landscapes and eagle hunters with such enthusiasm.

Thank you again for your warmth, curiosity and adventurous spirit - and for supporting the local women, artisans, guides and small businesses we work with along the way. It means a great deal to us.

Hi, I have a strong connection with Creative Arts Safaris. Many of you will know me as a tutor on tour – and I have the most fantastic time. Everything is beautifully organised, which means I can focus on what I love most – teaching a great bunch of people how to capture the world in their creative textiles. But every now and then, I swap hats. Sometimes I join Creative Arts Safaris as a participant. No teaching. Just travelling, learning, soaking it all up alongside everyone else. I’ve just had an absolute ball in Laos. Such a treat to be on the other side of it – to be guided, surprised, and inspired without having to think about the logistics. Huge thank you. It’s pretty special to be part of something from both sides. Gillian

I have been on 2 different tours with this company and cannot fully recomend them to travelers. Negative: Most (not all) of hotels were 2 or 3 stars at most. Some were very unclean, tiny, or somewhat disheveled. The tour director/owner was not open to reasonable questions and 'shot people down' for asking them. She had a very prickly attitude. We were responsible on one tour to buy our own water and tip all the guides we used during the long tour. Positive: We saw many cultural and historical sites, as well as crafts and textiles. I have been on many group tours around the world and found much better overall experience in terms of hotels; food; attitude of tour leaders; and hands on arts experience.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

I’m sorry to hear that parts of the tour did not meet your expectations. We work hard to curate small-group journeys that balance comfort with character – often choosing locally owned, heritage, or boutique properties rather than international chains and sometimes there is simply nothing better in that corner of the world.

Regarding water and tipping – we are always clear in our pre-tour information about what is included and what is not. In many of the countries we visit, tipping local guides and drivers is an important part of supporting the local economy directly. We also make it clear tipping is up to you as different nationalities have different feelings about tipping. Purchasing your own bottled water is also common practice in regions where filtered water is not reliably available.

I’m particularly sorry if at any time you felt your questions were not welcomed. That is never my intention. Leading small groups across different cultures requires balancing logistics, timing, and group needs, and I do my best to ensure everyone feels informed and cared for.

I’m pleased to hear you enjoyed the cultural visits and textile experiences – those authentic, hands-on moments with artisans and communities are at the heart of what we do.

I genuinely wish you well in finding travel experiences that suit you perfectly in the future.

A true immersion in creativity by meeting and watching some of the people keeping these age old textile arts alive. This was no ordinary tour although we were exposed to the food, culture and life on the street, we were educated in the intricate and time consuming textile arts still practiced by small groups of individuals for generations. I would be remiss to not mention our great, fun, curious , adventurous group and Fiona who took us to hidden gems for our nights complete with delicious and varying dishes. This trip is for the curious and adventurous among us that want your eyes and heart open to different cultures and their customs.

Just home from Gujurat Palaces, Stepwells and Textiles Tour. Fiona curated an experience that covered everything from beautifully appointed palaces and hotels to wilderness cow dung cabins with traditional crafts at every stop. Authenticity was the buzz word here and meeting the traditional women in their villages, being served food in their homes while having a workshop in 600 year old Rabari embroidery was truly a humbling experience. I came home with not just the most fabulous textiles and crafts purchased from the artisans themselves, in their remote villages that is far from the tourist traps, but life changing experiences and a new lens on how I view the world.

Such a lovely trip: great cities to sketch, interesting food, choice adventures, amazing teacher Leonie, group leader Megan and best of all the people I met, cool Australians who accepted me (US traveler) into their group. Look forward to more trips with Creative Arts Safaries.

I have returned from a sketching trip in Japan . I must say that Megan ,out leader, faced many challengers but she handled everything with patience ,confidence and humour. So many places to sketch and often followed up with tutoring by Leonie back at the hotel .A great experience!

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! We’re delighted you enjoyed your sketching trip to Japan. Yes — Japan can certainly be crowded and at times a little tricky to find the perfect sketching spot, but it’s wonderful to hear that Megan’s calm confidence and good humour helped everything flow smoothly.

Leonie is a gem, we’re so glad you appreciated Leonie’s inspiring tutoring sessions back at the hotel. 😊

A wonderful experience. There was a great variety of sites and experiences. The Kimono Tea Ceremony was a highlight! Megan was a very hard-working guide who was able to solve problems quickly. She was very friendly and helpful, especially when it came to ordering dinners as a group. No shortage of delicious helpings!

The traditional textile tour of northern Vietnam provided by Creative Arts Safaris, in March 2025 exceeded my expectations and gave me a taste to explore more of Asia with them in the future. The gentleness of the people, the entrepreneurial spirit of the women we met, the climate and the travelling modes all came together to provide a wonderful experience and opportunity to learn about the culture and its expression in their clothing, homes, farming and general environment. I recommend anyone wanting to see Vietnam and it’s culture take this Safari.

It’s been a dream of mine to go to India for many years, each time I planned something happened . I saw creative safaris and knew it was the right time. I have just returned from a fabulous adventure, learned lots of new things and made new friends. I went to Vietnam with CAS in 2024 and it was the trip of a lifetime. We experienced the hustle and bustle of the old quarter in Hanoi and I especially loved being in the mountain areas of Sapa and Lao Cai. At times I really had to pinch myself to say, "Yes! I am really here!" We had great accommodation and meals and easy transport to the places we visited. And oh my goodness the textiles were amazing. We visited factories, small workshops and women's sewing collaborative. The fabrics and weaving in the markets were so beautiful it was hard to choose. And I loved all our crafts whether it was dying scarves, making was indigo dyed projects, stitching and learning a variety of techniques. I came home with such wonderful memories of the people in Vietnam and the terrific companions on the tour. I will never forget this amazing journey.

Beyond my wildest expectations is the best way to describe my adventures in Ghana! This trip was expertly organized down to the smallest detail, and yet, allowed for adequate personal time to explore. Fiona had connections with amazing people who led our workshops and taught us about their native crafts. On the bus, Wisdom (our guide) shared interesting cultural stories laced with humor and personal examples. Fiona has in-depth knowledge of the culture and the people of Ghana which she generously shared while keeping us in line with her schoolmarm experience so that our trip flowed without issues. I’m looking forward to my next adventure with Creative Arts Safaris!

Travel with Fiona and Praveen if you travel with the heart open to the unexpected sacred spaces of the world, or to experience the warm-hearted welcome of people who live their lives with quiet grace in environments different from those at home; if you yearn to know how a place has been affected by its history, by political forces, or even by the weather; or if you love the hustle and bustle of ancient marketplaces and the thrill of a good bargain. Maybe you want to meet women who have found empowerment through traditional art, craft, and skill, or to delve into the poetic soul of a place. And, of course, you want to have good conversation over a glass of wine and good food from the region. If you travel because you want to be changed, or because you want to be reminded of the thread of good that connects the world, even in times of chaos, travel with Fiona and Praveen. You will not regret it.

I've been on tour with Creative Arts Safaris to India and Vietnam. Both trips were wonderful, exciting experiences. I was introduced to amazing places, people and food. Meeting the makers and learning how cloth and paper "have always been made, Madam" were memorable visits. I thoroughly recommend tours with Creative Arts Safaris.
