Our stay at The Charleston House Bed & Breakfast was a happenstance, we were caught up in a winter storm and had to find a place to spend the night. Despite our last-minute booking, Joshua was an amazing host and met us at the property at short notice. The property is charming—a beautifully renovated historic home that preserves its original character. Our room was pristine with a comfortable bed and spacious bathroom, just what we needed to relax after a stressful day of driving. The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast in a lovely dining room, each table decorated with fresh flowers. I highly recommend this cozy, welcoming property!

I truly can’t say enough good things about this place. It’s cozy, charming, and incredibly comfortable. We spent the week of Christmas here, and Joshua made it feel like a true home away from home. His attention to detail shows in every corner, and it made our stay exceptional. This was a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend booking a visit.

10/10 What a gem The Charleston House is. If you are looking for a cozy, clean and relaxing place to stay in the Charleston area, look no further! My husband and I stayed for one night in the newly renovated bed and breakfast and enjoyed a comfortable bed with amazing linens, a large bathroom with some fantastic soap and shampoo and topped it all with a delicious breakfast! The owner, Joshua was accommodating to an earlier check in and we enjoyed our conversation with him about the history of this bed and breakfast. We will definitely be back when we are in town to visit family!

Wonderful stay at a beautiful place! My husband & I spent 2 nights at the Charleston House in the House Mother Suite. Everything was very comfortable & clean. The breakfast served was just delicious & the amenities provided were wonderful. The location, for us, was perfect. Charleston is a very quaint town with a lot to offer.

A gem in Charleston Joshua is working hard to create a multi-star bed and breakfast! Up-to-date amenities in a renovated and restored historical building. Spacious and comfortable room, bathroom with sizeable walk-in shower, locally-crafted toiletries, oversized plush towels, reliable and speedy wifi, delicious breakfast, inviting common spaces, walkable historic neighborhood. Highly recommend!

This B&B is a gem in Charleston. I stayed there recently and the owner, Joshua, was so friendly and accommodating. I have diet restrictions and he was very careful to make sure my food was not only safe but excellent. He picked up some sourdough from a local bakery that was excellent, and I really appreciate that he supports local businesses as well. The room was comfortable and very quiet, even with other guests in the house. It felt like staying at a friend's place rather than a hotel. There was zero smoke smell, which is awesome! It's a short walk to EIU being just down the street from Old Main, which is super convenient. There are several restaurants nearby, as well, so those of us without cars get along just fine. I can only hope they have rooms available next time I'm in town! Thanks for the wonderful accommodations, Joshua :D

A real gem in Charleston. Comfortable, clean room, lovely home with gathering spaces to relax, and a wonderful host. The home has amazing historic details on the first floor. The woodwork is gorgeous. The guest room and bathroom were spacious and light filled, comfortable bed and chair. Our host, Joshua, was so welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended!

This house is beautiful! There is plenty of convenient parking keeping vehicles off of the one way street directly down from Old Main at Eastern Illinois University. Joshua, the owner and proprietor, is so hospitable and accommodating. The rooms are pristine and newly renovated with Keurig coffee makers, hair dryers, steamers, etc. One would never know it had once been an EIU fraternity house! (I attended Eastern.) It’s beautiful! We enjoyed a delicious breakfast of yogurt and fresh fruit followed by an unbelievable soufflé. This would be a perfect spot to stay for Parents Weekend or graduation.

Another wonderful stay at the Charleston House Bed & Breakfast! We stayed two days and were at home in the “House Mother’s” suite! The House Mother's suite was cozy and warm! On this stay, the Friday breakfast was Juice, bacon, fruit & yogurt, a wonderful casserole of egg, cheese, and tater tots-just wonderful! On Saturday our breakfast was juice, bacon, fruit with honey, and a Belgian Waffle! Yum, yum is all we can say! The conversation with the other guests was wonderful! Joshua is a wonderful proprietor. We will be back!!!!

The Charleston House in Charleston, Illinois and proprietor, Joshua Craig rate five stars! We made our third visit to The Charleston House in Charleston, Illinois! Once again, our House Mother's room was ready for us! It is so nice to enter a cozy room as the outside temperature is getting cooler. Once again, we had a wonderful breakfast both mornings! Juice, yogurt with fruit, bacon, egg+ cheese + tater tot casserole, and on our second morning we were served Belgin waffles! Yum, yum is all I can say! We are looking forward to another stay!

We will be back! What a wonderful stay we had at the Charleston House Bed & Breakfast! We stayed three days and were at home in the “House Mother’s” suit! Saturday, a wonderful breakfast of frittatas, bacon, fruit and blueberry muffins was served by proprietor, Joshua Craig! Later that morning we had front row seats for the EIU Homecoming Parade with refreshments! Later that day we visited the EIU Tailgate to meet our Grandson’s professors in the Communication Department! When we arrived back to the Charleston House, proprietor, Joshua had cold drinks and snacks ready for us! Sunday morning we were served the signature breakfast of the scrumptious “Flora’s Egg Casserole!” It was wonderful! It was accompanied with a berry yogurt dish, bacon, sausage, juice, coffee and tea all served on the house Spode. A wonderful breakfast shared with other EIU alumna guests. Then we visited the Charleston 1st Presbyterian Church. When we returned to the Charleston House, Joshua, once again, had refreshments ready for us before we got ready to go to our Grandson’s Choral Concert at the Doudna Fine Arts Center. On Monday morning we needed to leave for our home in Noblesville, IN at 6:30am. Joshua had fruit, muffins, and water ready for our early morning trip back home. We found the “House Mother’s Suite” roomy and comfortable. We slept well! Thank you, Joshua for a wonderful stay!

Classy B&B with a great history. Great B&B with the proprietor living on site. Property was recently renovated and the bedrooms and bathrooms are very nice. Main floor maintains it's historic charm and the dining room is well suited for small groups of travelers. I would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting EIU.
