Just so happened to stumble upon this clinic and get scheduled with the soonest available appointment and it was with Dr Ramkumar, I am so blessed. Being an athlete, I was training for a half marathon when my knees didn’t feel right..shortly thereafter my pain transferred to my hip, resulting in the diagnosis of a bilateral hip impingement, Dr Ramkumar’s expertise. Surgery has always been my last resort, but once Dr Ramkumar went over the explanation clearly and concisely, I felt that I was in good hands and immediately decided to pursue with the arthroscopic surgery. He explained my diagnosis in simple human terms that allowed it easy to understand and made sure all of my questions were answered.
I was honestly amazed by how smoothly everything went and how quickly I healed, which truly speaks to his precision and skill in the operating room. Beyond being an incredibly talented surgeon, Dr. Ramkumar is also such a light-hearted, kind human who genuinely cares about his patients as people, not just cases. He took the time to listen to my story, understand my goals as an athlete, and support me every step of the way.
He is such a caring surgeon, if not the most caring surgeon I’ve had, from pre-op to post op appointments, it’s always a joy to be in his clinic.

My recovery from partial R knee surgery was no less than miraculous.
- 90 degrees bend in 3 days
- Walker to Cane 4 days
- 125 degrees 9 days
- 144 degrees 14 days
- bike riding under 2 months
From initial diagnosis through post surgery and physical therapy; they have kept me informed and engaged in a well coordinated process of treatment and recovery.
I am a 72 year old active hiker/biker/bowler and former commercial diver/gymnast. That said, I have had 9 orthopedic surgeries. 2 back fusion, work on both shoulders, both knees, both hands and (L) foot. Long Beach Surgery Center is my standout favorite facility. The Staff makes you feel like you matter. Their OR is cheerful (until Anesthesia kicked in, I was surrounded by smiles, music and friendly competent professionals.).
I received daily text links with checklists, tutorials and pics of daily PT work via the “FORCE” system. This high level of engagement fostered incredible success. Hope this is my last surgery. But if not, The Commons Medical Group and Long Beach Surgery Center is my go-to choice. Thank you Doctor Ramkumar and the excellent staff. And especially the Physical Therapy team.
