We visited The Clifton Sausage to celebrate my husband’s birthday and were really looking forward to the evening. We were seated at one of the two bar tables which didn’t seem like an issue at first. However, partway through our main course a large group of drunk men arrived at the bar. They were extremely loud and repeatedly bumped into our table; we even had to move our side dishes to stop them being knocked over as people squeezed past. One person sat at the table behind us and kept hitting the back of my chair while talking loudly, which made it impossible to relax or enjoy the meal.
I asked if we could move and the staff were helpful and found us a quieter table, although my husband had to wait several minutes before someone was free to help carry the plates over. Once moved, we were able to enjoy the rest of our evening.
The food was excellent and the staff were friendly and accommodating, but the experience at the bar table really put a dampener on what should have been a lovely birthday celebration. I don’t think these bar tables should be included as standard dining reservations, especially when the bar is actively in use; it completely changes the atmosphere. If we had known we’d be seated there, we would have chosen a different time or a different restaurant. It would be much better if these tables were reserved for walk-ins or if customers were informed at the time of booking.
Overall, great food and service, but being seated at a bar table during a busy period significantly impacted our experience and i wouldnt visit again unless we could be guaranteed a spot in the main restaurant.
Great food and service, but bar tables should be removed

Great menu and service. Due to acoustics of the venue and a large loud party next to us it did get very hard to hear ourselves and maintain the conversations we were having before the party was sat but that's the luck of the draw dining out! Variety of sausages on offer was fab, as we had a vegetarian and a non pork eater with us as we were all catered for and left unable to fit a dessert
Great place but too heavy on the salt
4 of us met here for a dinner. The staff are great, responsive, friendly, efficient. The atmosphere is lively, even on a rainy Monday evening. Good bar offerings - Butcombe pleased our beer aficionada. Our appetisers were tasty: pigs in blankets (though the bacon could have been grilled a bit more), sausage roll, parsnip crisps. However, the calf's liver and the sausage mains that 2 of us ordered were far too salty - that is, the bacon and gravy were too salty, the actual liver, mash, and sausage were fine. So salty that I wouldn't go back, my blood pressure wouldn't be able to take it. We went through 4 litres of water! So, go if you like salt; if you find you're going and don't like salt, get something without bacon and gravy.
Loved it!!
Fantastic evening at Clifton Sausage. Lovely atmosphere. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. Great menu to choose from, I only wish we had room for pudding! The starters/sharers were amazing, haven’t stopped thinking about the homemade sausage rolls. Our waiter, Jack, was fantastic! Really warm and friendly. Jack answered my many questions and did so with a smile. Highly recommend visit to Clifton Sausage!
Cute little independent restaurant
Absolute gem to visit. Whole team is lovely, friendly and true embodiment of hospitality. Sausages are fantastic, quality, real food, actually made fresh, with exciting daily mash and other additions. Very friendly atmosphere. It's a true local business that cares about food
I was looking forward to supper here on Saturday night. Unfortunately my experience was very mixed. Our waitress was charming and very helpful which was a positive. We then ordered our sausage and mash. We then waited….. And waited….. and waited. Eventually we had to get up and ask where our food was. We estimate we waited over 40 minutes! Not sure why this was - I expect pretty quick service when ordering the one dish a restaurant specialises in. Or at least bring kept informed re any delays. When the food did arrive it was mixed. Some of the sausages looked good - browned on outside etc. Others looked like they had been boiled rather than baked so they were white and not very appetising. The gravy and mash were delicious. To be fair to the restaurant, they took our drinks off the bill which was a lovely gesture and appreciated. I really hope and expect our experience was just a blip but I can’t be any more positive sadly. They always say a restaurant has to get the basics right and in this occasion they didn’t unfortunately.
Really lovely evening.
A thoroughly enjoyable Sunday evening. Excellent food with quality ingredients cooked really well. We all loved the little extra touches especially the crispy onions on top of the sausage and mash. Generous portions, yummy deserts. The gravy was absolutely delicious. Really nice friendly service. A winner for us all round.
