Had a fabulous time on the 2 day Raku course in September. Improved on my hand building skills. Great tutorial & information from Bill. Loved the glazing and firing experience 👌. If you've always wanted to try Raku, whether you're a novice or have experience of pottery, do it. You won't be disappointed 😃👍

Had the most amazing couple of days at Clayability😁 Bill is a fantastic teacher really helpful with loads of tips and always on hand to give advice. The Raku course I cannot recommend highly enough as it was an incredible experience for beginners and more experienced. There was a real range of people on the course from those of us who have done nothing to others who had done the course before and just wanted the magic experience again. You are well fed and watered throughout the two days and can’t wait to book another course with them absolutely loved it.

What a fantastic 2 days doing the raku course. Bill is an excellent and experienced tutor. He supports everyone and teaches the group a range of skills to try out with success. Sarah provides you with the most delicious lunch and snacks too. A wonderful setting and it felt good value for money. I will definitely sign up again next year. Would highly recommend Clayability.

Really interesting experience learning the principles of Raku making and firing, all done in a spacious workshop with plenty of equipment and tools. Very friendly tutoring and on hand or hands-off interventions as wished by the participants - especially useful in a group of varying expertise.

I recently completed a two-day raku course with Bill. Mud, fire, smoke, steam, alchemy. And a lovely lunch. What's not to love.

Bill’s courses are amazing, he’s a master potter. I’ve been ‘potting’ for a while now and he is one of the few teachers who always teaches me something really helpful. He’s also a thoroughly good bloke who, with his wife Sarah, make the course so enjoyable. It’s definitely worth the hour long drive there and back for the time with Bill in his studio. Highly recommended.

I recently completed the three day throwing course with Bill at Clayability and I cannot recommend him enough. I am fairly new to throwing but have been at the wheel for around 9 months but Bill made me feel at ease within the class. There was no stress asking questions, he has a joy with passing on his pottery skills that makes it feel like a great learning experience. The course felt led by the skills and requirements of the students, which was great, so we could all pick our own particular nemesis and tackle it with Bill's help. I have already booked onto another course with Clayability and can't wait to learn more. Thank you also should go to the lovely Sarah for all the coffee, biscuits and tasty lunches.

Lovely environment in Bill’s rural workshop, with just 5 people you get a very personal service. As an experienced potter with bad habits meaning that throwing was a bit of a battle, my ambition was to throw effortlessly where you barely touch the clay to lift it. After the course I feel I have definitely improved my approach making it easier, quicker and more joyful!

Clayability Three Day Pottery Throwing Masterclass — A Total Game Changer If you're serious about improving your throwing, do yourself a favour and book Bill Moore's Three Day Masterclass at Clayability. Quite simply, Bill is the best pottery teacher I've ever had. He's a master potter through and through — deeply skilled, endlessly patient, and genuinely passionate about sharing everything he knows. Over the three days, the course covers an impressive range of skills: throwing mugs, jugs and teapots, learning how to throw lids, galleries and spouts, pulling and applying handles, and turning elegant footrings. It sounds like a lot — and it is — but Bill structures each day with a great mix of demonstrations, discussion and plenty of hands-on time at the wheel. With only five students on the course, the one-to-one attention is exceptional, and he tailors his approach to what the group actually needs, which made a huge difference. What really sets Bill apart are the little tips and tricks you'd never think to look for yourself — the tiny adjustments that suddenly make everything look far more professional and considered. I broke some bad habits I didn't even realise I had, picked up brilliant new techniques, and came away with pieces I'm genuinely proud of. Making a teapot was a highlight, but my butter dish was the piece I was most pleased with — I hadn't expected that at all! I won't pretend — I was absolutely knackered by the end of day three. But it was the happiest kind of exhausted. The progress I made in those three days would have taken me months to achieve on my own, if at all. The studio at Elm Farm in North Somerset is a lovely setting, the home-cooked lunch each day was a treat, and the whole experience felt really well thought through from start to finish. Highest possible recommendation. I'll definitely be back.

I attended a one day throwing workshop at Clayability with Ian Beckton. He is a patient and encouraging teacher. He demonstrated and explained the techniques clearly. A really enjoyable day, only made better by the lovely surroundings and a yummy cake and cup of tea from the Café. I feel my technique has improved and I have more confidence in throwing at the wheel (and less failed pots!). Definitely feel inspired to keep practising and improving. The only suggestion I have would be to give a handout to attendees with a summary / aide-memoir of the technique for each stage of the centring & pulling process, and for each of the shapes that he taught us to produce. Thanks again Ian!
