I ordered from the lunch menu and ordered Garlic Chicken lunch. Pick up time was 1:30 pm I showed up 10 minutes early to make sure it was hot and fresh. It was SO disappointing! I did take away, glad I checked it before I left, there no utensils. No big deal. Drove 5 minutes away, opened up the “Hot” and Sour soup. It was neither hot nor warm temperature or spicy wise. Disappointing. Next was the barely warm Spring Roll, not freshly made for sure frozen and shipped in. 0 for 2. 0 for 3 was the “Garlic Chicken”…More Like Garlic Carrots and Mushrooms… hardly any Chicken…So Disappointing…. I was the only one doing take out and no cars in the parking lot (one man eating in the restaurant, I assume the owner) I saw previous reviews that were positive…not here…there are plenty of other restaurants… you can’t get it right when dead quiet, you can’t get it right…Take your money elsewhere, Don’t chance it at China Cafe in Johnston!
This is some of the most reasonable priced, best quality Chinese food in Des Moines. Nothing fancy, just good quality Americanized Chinese food.
My favorite is the Kung Pao Beef. The sauce is very well balanced. I've not had anything that disappoints here.
The food was amazing. I come in with gluten-free challenges and sometimes that can be hard for restaurants. But not this one, the cook came to help me figure out what would be the perfect meal for me and it was so yummy. Thank you so much.
The food we have had is tasty and there's an ample quantity. The food is always ready for pick up. We particularly like the chicken and string beans.
Best Chinese food we’ve had in a very long time, if ever! The atmosphere was very casual, but quite clean. The service was very friendly but missed some fine details- we got white rice instead of fried. The entrees were SO GOOD though we didn’t really care. The next time we are in the area craving Chinese, this is where we will go!
Best pad thai I have had in DSM! The restaurant is clean and service is great. Highly recommend!
