Have dined at Chilli Padi over the last decade. Food is usually good and up to standard. Today’s Sotong Hitam was disappointing however. Overcooked, rubbery and cut in varying thickness making it extremely hard to chew and swallow. Also very little black squid ink sauce as compared to before.
Excellent food, but the atmosphere killed our dining experience. The acoustics in the room was not taken into consideration during renovation. As a result, the ambient noise was almost unbearable with just 4 tables dining in. The sound of people chattering and dishes clanging was echoing throughout our dining experience and my group could hardly talk to one another. My apple watch registered up to 90db of noise while we were there. I would definitely reconsider coming again if the place is full of patrons.

+Great intensity of flavors
+ Food leaning toward traditional flavors over modern style

+clean and bright environment
+best Ayam Buah Keluak til date
-meatball in soup was cold in the center, but the kitchen was quick to reheat it
-otah in cabbage roll: otah absorbed too much gravy and lost it's original flavor
Did reservation but still given a seat near the door. The ayam buah keluak and black ink squid were my favourite. Overall I like peranakan food. Would like to feedback- only clear partial bowl from table and not all. I felt a bit uncomfortable, like the waitress is chasing me to finish my food and get out asap.

Definitely the type of savoury, spicy Peranakan gourmet whose different types of gravy goes so well with white rice.
The restaurant is spacious, bright and comfortable for groups or couples. They have the options of round tables, squarish or rectangular ones.
The staff is patient and attentive. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Easy access to alight old folks along Joo Chiat Lane, just outside the restaurant and parking is just along the street or at the opposite open air carpark. 🫶🏼

An anchor for authentic Peranakan food in the heart of Joo Chiat. We enjoyed our selection of dishes today at the newly renovated restaurant. It looks brighter… though I do miss their old batik tablecloths!
We’ll definitely be back to try other dishes. Lots of parking is available just opposite the restaurant, making it very convenient.
