I honestly couldn’t recommend this site enough! Andy and Jane were amazing! I got caught out with 4 punctures and a split tire soaked though and getting pretty late, Andy being the hero that he is saved my day and rescued me, although not an ideal situation, really turned out to be the highlight of my trip experiencing the kindness from a stranger going above and beyond to help a guy out. Will be using chapel house farm whenever I’m along the wall, really couldn’t recommend these guys enough, the site is beautiful and these guys really care about the nature around them so if you’re looking for a camping spot along the wall you should definitely stay with these!
Came here last night 04 August 25 whilst walking the Pennine Way South to North with my brother and dog (Lucy)
Great camping spot, right on Hadrians wall, lovely old farm location and Andy the Farmer top bloke 🫡
Staying another night due to bad weather
Highly recommended if you want basic but lovely surroundings 🙏🏻
I mean to be honest the facilities are a bit basic, with a clean toilet in an old farm outbuilding (very warm though!). But it's a lovely spot and the owners are every bit as friendly as every other reviewer says - thisll be one of the highlights of our walk!!
After a long, long walk from Garrigill on the Pennine Way, we arrived very late and completely exhausted. Not only did the owner come looking for us (and transport our packs back for us), but during lambing season we probably kept them from their beds! The facilities are basic but clean and warm and it's a lovely farm. The Sansom pub was similarly wonderful.
Such a wonderful campsite! So idyllic and peaceful, Andy and Jane were wonderful hosts. We were camping here in mid March so it was pretty chilly at night - Andy and Jane insisted we borrow an extra sleeping bag to stay warm which was a lovely (and much needed!) thought! It was lambing season when we arrived and we saw some adorable newborn lambs, a really wonderful experience. No shower but a toilet and sink and socket to charge your phone in the toilet. Easy walk to the nearest pub in Gilsland. Make sure to look up at the sky on a clear night, never seen so many stars! Would absolutely stay again and would recommend to anyone visiting Hadrian's wall.
We planned ahead to use this site after a long 38km walking Hadrian’s wall getting in around 7-8ish(little later than planned) but Andy was a great host really welcoming! Unfortunately the local pub was closed and we where unable to get tea that night so Andy being the hero that he is drove us to a local supermarket to buy some food, Legend!!
We did a walk over bank Holiday weekend and asked to leave some camping gear before we camped Andy was a great host. Very accommodating and helpful advice for our walk. Has a small tuck shop and toilet but no showers. Great spot to stop on the wall. Tip. The walking gets better going east. From Carlisle there isn't that much to see really and you'll be thinking that hadrians wall is a figment of your imagination.
Also if you don't make it for whatever reason you don't pay. No online forms or anything. Just text Andy and stay. It's great
Great place to camp when on the Hadrian's wall. Literally on the route. Ordered food from nearby. Even experienced lambing and were happy for me to watch and ask questions.
Fantastic, Andi is a very friendly host with a good sense of humour. Loved it... Cheers Mate.
Just returned from a two night stay on this wonderful site. While the weather was inclement we were made to feel immediately welcome by the gentleman who runs the place - offered us our pick of spots, we chose the smaller pitch adjacent to the small stream which granted us a private little pitch. Amenities are more than sufficient and a flat spot to camp - ideal! Will be back :)
