Stephen was recommended to our rescue as we needed help in working with Patrick, who had been used as a bait cat. From the first conversation with Stephen, it was apparent that he not only brings extensive knowledge to each case, but immense compassion for the feline and humans involved. I felt that I had found a true partner to work with to help Patrick and it was obvious that Stephen cared about Patrick's outcome just as much as I did. So grateful for being put into contact with Stephen as he will be a behavioral resource for our rescue going forward.

I'm so glad you contacted me and being able to help a shelter is extra special. Patrick is an amazing cat who deserves the extra TLC he needs to help him be the happy cat that I know that he is inside. You've done a great thing in rescuing him and I will do all I can to help you, him and your shelter in the future! Happy Cats!

Stephen is extremely knowledgeable and understanding. He was able to help us get our cats together after our resident cat was showing no signs of accepting our new cat and being actively aggressive after 4 months. We had one longer session and two follow ups over two months and both cats are finally able to be in the same room together (which is a big deal as we only have a 1 bedroom apartment). Stephen was amazing and great to work with, I highly recommend him!

I found Stephen 3 years ago when I needed help with my scaredy cat Gracie. With Stephen’s assessment and guidance plan I was able to know that Gracie is a very happy cat even though she does hide a lot. My goal was to have her become more social with me so I could give her the love I wanted to give and have her love in return. I followed his plan and got the amazing results of a Cat not always hiding and enjoying our time together with brushing, playing and lots of treats. I am confident that Stephen can put a solid plan together should any challenging situations come up in the future. He gave me a peace of mind I so needed, and Gracie a schedule she can count on to feel safe displaying affection and have interactive play time.

Ellen,
Gracie is such a wonderful and loving cat and we just needed to go to her on her own terms to help her out of her shell. She's blessed to have you in her life and you are a wonderful advocate for her. She's lucky to have you and it brings me joy to know that she is safe and happy in your home!

Stephen helped us about a year ago when we brought our new kitten home to our older cat, Evie. At first it was utter chaos in our apartment, she did not like him one bit! My husband and I struggled learning how to integrate them together and Stephen was INCREDIBLE! He was patient, kind, and always had useful feedback. About one year has passed and they are now inseparable siblings, all thanks to Stephen and his guidance! Thanks Stephen!

When we first reached out to Stephen we had recently rescued a six month old kitten, and our senior cat was having none of it. When we put them together he would lunge and chase, she would run in terror, we’d separate them, and it would happen all over again when we put them back together. We had been feeding this kitten in our driveway for weeks and were already in love with her, and obviously our senior cat wasn’t going anywhere, so we were at wits end. Stephen was so kind and helpful, guiding us through a series of steps over the course of about three months, answering all of our questions and helping us understand why we were doing what we were doing, rather than just giving us steps to follow without any background or explanation. It’s been a few months and our two cats are living together now! Not yet best friends, but they are relaxed in each other‘s company so there is no more fighting and they are starting to play together. Hiring Stephen was such a great decision for our family, I am so glad we did it and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone with cat behavior trouble!

Courtney,
It was such a pleasure working with you and Joe and helping you both with Willie and Sonny and it's so wonderful that they have become such great friends! They roughhouse which is sweet and in large measure that comes from comparable temperaments and personalities. We can always hope that introducing cats to each other will at least result in compatibility between them and while we can give them the tools to become friends, that last step is always up to them. But in this case, friendship was happily achieved! Congrats to all!

I highly recommend Stephen to anyone who is introducing a new cat into their home. We’ve tried introducing our furry orange, Pretzel, to several cats in the past, and it’s always been unsuccessful. When we got Val, we really wanted it to work out but the first few weeks were rough. Any time pretzel approached her, she’d hiss and swat at him, even though we tried the “slow introduction” approach. Stephen talked us through additional techniques that you don’t typically see in the more popular cat behavior YouTube videos, and it made all the difference. Stephen also viewed videos of Pretzel and Val’s interactions and helped give clarity to what was actually happening, and how to work through it. A few months later, I can happily say that Pretzel and Val are good friends. They look out the window together, play/hang out together, and just yesterday we caught Val grooming Pretzel! I’m just so so happy. 10/10 would recommend Stephen. You won’t regret it.

Diane,
Your cats are so gorgeous and it makes me so happy to see them together! Perfection is hard to come by, even cats who are good friends can have "spats", but if we can help them tolerate each other, or even be decent friends then we have succeeded. In your case we have gotten them to the point of being BFFs. Thank you for your patience and diligent work. None of this would have happened without you.

My six year old cat, always a little feisty, pounced on me several times as I was going to sleep--scary as my eyes were threatened. The vet found her in good health. Stephen thought she might be very hungry (vet had her on a very limited diet) and suggested I add another 'mini meal' in the evening which I did. Three weeks from when I began more feeding there hasn't been a pounce or a bite and I'm fairly confident this will hold. Stephen has been incredibly helpful and I'm highly appreciative.

Mari,
Thank you for your very kind words! Cats are predators and some cats need a little bit more food in order to be calm. They think with their teeth and I'm so glad we were able to help her! Congrats!

Stephen is an incredible behaviorist and human being. Compassionate to his core, I’m so grateful to have been able to work with him to find a solution to a difficult situation. He gave me hope when mine ran out and I can’t thank him enough! He is so knowledgeable and dedicated to what he does—I’ll be singing his praises for years to come.

Stephen has been an invaluable resource! I would recommend him 100% to anyone dealing with cat behavior issues. A neighbor cat caused a few redirected aggression incidents in our 5 year old littermate cats and we were so distraught and worried they would never get along again. We started our journey of reintroduction with Stephen by our side and he was extremely helpful in guiding us through each step. Stephen was very responsive to us (as we would send daily videos of progress) and was extremely helpful in letting us know when to move forward or when to tweak things to get a better result. After a few months of work and with the guidance of Stephen we now have our cats back together and I could not be happier!

You both worked diligently and hard and your patience and love of Amber and Binx really paid off! It was so heartwarming to see the most recent videos of the two of them back together, real friends after they had developed such a deep distrust of each other after the original incident that hurt their relationship. I'm so proud of you both and so very happy for all four of you! Congrats!!

Stephen helped me decode my cat's needs in a way that really challenged me to be a better cat mom. I am really grateful for his patience and his timely dedication to answer all of my 100000 questions and help even teach me things about cats (and my own!) That I had never knew before. He is excellent- book the call!

While I didn’t work in session with Stephen, his professionalism and kindness impressed me none the less. I struggled with interact aggression for ten months before reaching the end of my rope. I reached out to several behaviorists asking for advice and most everyone responded with “I can help you. Here are my priced packages.” Stephen took the time to look over my story and give an honest answer. Ultimately we decided to rehome our newer cat. What impressed me is Stephen went a step further and offered words of encouragement that deeply touched our family during our time of grief. Should we need help in the future we will definitely be coming back to Stephen. I can tell he cares about cats and their families in a genuine way. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Hi McKynzie
What you are going through is so very hard with intercat aggression being one of the hardest things of all so the first thing you should experience when reaching out to a behaviorist is compassion. I’m glad I was able to at least lessen your burden. Don’t hesitate to contact me in the future should the need arise.
Yours,
Stephen

Although I didn’t end up engaging Stephen for his services, he could not have been more helpful and thoughtful in helping me address a cat aggression issue. And to his credit, he acknowledged that the issue may be beyond a behaviorist. If my experience is any indication, he is an informed and invested partner with whom to address your cat’s issues. I highly recommend his services.

Stephen led our family through the initial feelings of helplessness and defeat to hopefulness and joy over the last month or so. With Stephen's steadfast guidance and cat behavior expertise, we were able to help our new rescue cat, Levi, acclimate to his new home and resident feline siblings. One of our cats, Billy, was struggling to accept Levi's playful personality and rambunctious behaviors which resulted in a few "spats" that left us very disheartened. Stephen's comprehensive approach through detailed guides, helpful recommendations, and consistent communication via email and Zoom sessions resulted in Billy and Levi not just tolerating one another, but growing into friends! We are looking forward to continuing to apply all of the information we learned (he is a wealth of knowledge!) into our continued work with our feline family for years to come. I cannot stress enough how grateful we are to Stephen. He is a wonderful human being who clearly has a deep love for animals and a passion for the mission of feline wellbeing.

There's so much to be said about Stephen's kindness and expertise in regards to cats, but what's rarer is the truly special level of care he puts into the people taking care of those cats. I first met Stephen after adopting a cat from the ACC that was actively (and I do not say this lightly) ruining my life. This cat was attacking me whenever I opened the door to my room, turning my legs red and purple with scratches and bruises. Stephen Quandt went out of his way to do calls with me, as well as frequent text and email advice, to try to fix the situation. When it still didn't work out, he offered me real empathy in regards to my guilt and helped me find my current cat, who is truly everything to me. Normally, that would already have been far above and beyond anything I would have ever expected from someone, but Stephen has also offered his expertise with my family cat, diagnosing a GI tract sickness based on a short list of symptoms, giving us a few more months with the cat I first got when I was 8 years old. There are few people who care this much, and fewer still that extend that care to people they've only ever met one or two times. I wish I could leave a review of higher than five stars, as he is truly deserving of the highest recommendation I could possibly give.

Owning only dogs all my life , I got 2 very young kittens. I was sure I was sending them back to the shelter. They were in hiding and they never came out and I never saw them. I read so many different books, received conflicting advice from many people. I decided to reach out to a cat specialist before I gave up on them. That’s when I set up a consultation with Stephen. I trusted his years of experience. He gave me a lot of information, especially stressing how important it was that I socialized these young kittens and the best way to do it, as the window was small and time was running out. So I followed his advice. And before I knew it, not only were they not hiding anymore, but they were actually coming to me and sitting on my lap all on their own accord! I play with them every morning and evening and they come and sit with me every morning and every evening, and we are so bonded, the three musketeers !! Needless to say, I never took them back to the shelter. These boys are staying right here with me. Thanks to Stephen and his help , advice and support. I am a proud cat mom I cannot imagine my life without them! Thank you Stephen!

Dear Maria,
You have no idea how much this warms my heart! You were very worried and rightly so but you kept faith and you did the work and now you’ve been rewarded with two gorgeous kittens who love you so deeply. I’m so glad I was able to help you and make such a difference in their lives and your life as well . May you all have many, many happy years together and I’m sending you happy thoughts from afar.

For those of you who are getting conflicting advice on the Internet about cat care nothing replaces a train specialist who can guide you through difficult times!

After some changes at home in terms of scheduling, our one year old female cat began urinating on our bed consistently over the course of a month. My wife and I were at our wits end and took the leap of contacting a behavioral therapist for our cat, a concept we probably would’ve thought was a bit crazy before all this occurred. Suffice to say we were incredibly impressed with Stephen and all the advice he provided us to instill better habits and improve our cat’s daily life and since our meetings with him, we have now gone over three months without any bed urination issues. Stephen continued to check in for updates in the weeks after our meeting and always made himself available to answer questions. Would highly recommend Stephen!

Jon,
I'm so glad I was able to meet and help the two of you and dear Eloise! Sometimes our cats are a bit misunderstood and we just need to help them communicate with us so that we can get to the root of the problem. I'm so glad she has consistently resumed proper litter box habits, congrats to all!

After rescuing and bringing home 9 cats over the past few years, we slowly found ourselves in a very complex, emotionally draining situation. While they were all so amazing by themselves, it became clear that many of them simply didn’t mesh very well. We constantly had to manage the situation, stepping in between to avoid fights, and often had to separate the cats into different rooms, which was less than ideal. And over time, more and more relationships started to sour. The worst part was when two of our cats, who had always been best friends, suddenly started turning on each other… That’s when we knew that the situation really wasn’t sustainable - neither for us nor the cats. And yet, the thought of rehoming anyone was unbearable, and we struggled with that decision for a very long time. Just playing with this thought consumed so much of our everyday life. We were very unsure about reaching out to Stephen as we didn’t believe a behaviorist would be able to offer much at this point. But we felt that before we made any decision about rehoming, we wanted to be really sure that we were making a good decision, especially in regard to the cats’ well-being. And that’s when we reached out to Stephen. Stephen was incredibly compassionate and understanding about the emotional difficulties we were going through, but also clearly had a good understanding of the dynamics between the cats and what was going on. He gently helped us see the full picture: that none of our cats are “bad” or that we’ve done anything “wrong”, but that our cats simply weren’t thriving in such a crowded environment, and that, in fact, they were much more likely to enjoy a long and happy life in good homes where they could feel safer and get more attention. Thanks to Stephen, we now finally feel at peace with a decision we’ve wrestled with for years. We’re still heartbroken to say goodbye to any of them, but instead of feeling guilty, frustrated, and confused, we now have clarity, confidence in our decision, and even a sense of relief. The emotional weight is finally lifting. And we’re so grateful to Stephen for helping us get there.

Dear Fridtjov,
What the two of you have been struggling with is one of the hardest things a cat parent can go through and that is how to make an affirmative and positive choice on behalf of one’s cats who one loves so very much. Being able to do this means you are bestowing an important gift that the cats will appreciate and hopefully with time you will as well. Ultimately the cats that stay with you and those that find new homes will all benefit. You are both loving cat parents and I’m proud of both of you!

I highly recommend working with Stephen! His personalized advice goes far beyond anything you can learn online or DIY. He truly made a difference for my cat, Ollie. I reached out to Stephen during a tough time with Ollie. He’s an older rescue with some health challenges. His vet agreed that his intense nighttime anxiety wasn't caused by his medical issue and that it was behavioral. I spent hours watching Jackson Galaxy videos and trying to piece together all of the advice I could find. Ollie would still get separation anxiety when I would go to sleep, even with full access to my room. As a first-time cat guardian, I was overwhelmed and needed help. Stephen was a kind, steady presence. He took time to really investigate what could be driving Ollie's anxiety. His guidance was thoughtful and practical. He even helped me figure out the right gate for my space (something I spent months researching) Since then, Ollie has made real progress. He's more confident with guests/cat sitters and our new routine has brought us both more peace. I'm truly so grateful for Stephen's support. It meant the world!
