Dr. Dovec has truly changed my life. She performed my gastric bypass on 11/3, and I’ve already lost over 25 lbs! Her entire office staff is wonderful—professional, friendly, and incredibly supportive. One of my favorite things is that they even offer a texting line for questions, which is so convenient when you’re at work and can’t make a phone call. They’re always quick to respond and never hesitate to refill necessary medications when needed.
I highly recommend Dr. Dovec and Body by Bariatrics if you’re looking for white-glove service, a top-tier surgeon who genuinely knows her stuff, and a team that is fully invested in your success.

I had the bypass on 10/6/2025 the process was very easy, the staff, the doctors there are very professional, they communicate all the time before and after the surgery. So far, I love the results. Dr. Dovec is a master.

RNY Changed My Life Almost Immediately
I learned about Dr. Dovec through my best friend who knows her parents in WV. (We all grew up in small towns there that are close together) It was a Godwink for me because my diabetes was doing permanent and irreversible damage to my eyes and I'm only 55. I quickly made an appointment with her PA, Amber, and my decision was made. My diabetes has been perfect so I'm hoping to eventually eliminate my insulin and hopefully correct my type 2 diabetes forever. I felt great from week one and the thankfulness I feel is indescribable. I catch myself just smiling out of the blue because I'm feeling so great! I still have 85 lbs to lose but I'm getting there! Dr. Dovec is the best and is the whole package of intelligence, experience, and bedside manner. I thank God for this surgery and so does my family!
Pretty unhappy with how i feel in my opinion the after care and billing was handled. Glad I waited to post a review. They seemingly threatened to send me to collections over a $60 office visit, AFTER i called them and informed them my insurance informed ME i had met my out of pocket maximum and should not have a balance owed. I was working to resolve it with my insurance. This is all my personal perception of the timeline of events as I feel they transpired and they may hold a different view that I am not invalidating.
This transactional treatment left me feeling less like a patient and more like a transaction. I was planning to get excess skin removal done within their group, as well as a few other cosmetic care things they offer within the new skin facility before this transpired. I get it- you’re a business- but I explained to the office in detail my insurance called me about my EOB and explained I did not owe. So clearly there was a mixup. Either they got it wrong, or Body By got it wrong- all I asked for was time to sort that out. But to get threatened with collections? The next day? Over $60.00? It felt as though I was simply a number.
I want to be clear and emphasize that the quality of care was immaculate. The doctor(s) were lovely. My surgery was a success. I’ve lost 200lbs.
The doctors are great though, I greatly admire and respect the industry titans these women have built themselves into.
I originally had gastric sleeve surgery in Iowa in 2019, followed by hiatal hernia surgery in 2023 with the same bariatric surgeon. My journey with stomach issues actually began long before that — in 2005, I learned I had a large hiatal hernia, and my stomach was essentially in my chest. I suffered from severe GERD and Barrett’s Esophagus, a precancerous condition. My father and his brother both passed away from esophageal cancer, so this was a major concern for me.
I was told my case was complicated and would require a revision surgery, so I traveled to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. In August 2025, a thoracic surgeon there performed the hiatal hernia repair.
I had been following Dr. Betsy Dovec for years, ever since my first bariatric surgery. I admired how much she cares for and supports her patients. When my nurse practitioner recently told me I needed to find a new bariatric doctor (since my original surgeon was no longer practicing at the same facility) and that my labs were outdated, I decided to take a leap of faith and reach out to Dr. Dovec in Florida.
To my surprise, she agreed to take me on as a virtual patient. After reviewing my history and symptoms, she immediately expressed concern and acted quickly. Within a week, I had completed new testing and was flying to Florida for surgery.
What she found during that surgery was shocking — and lifesaving. I truly believe Dr. Dovec saved my life. She is an extraordinary surgeon who genuinely cares for her patients, offering both world-class medical skill and ongoing personal support.
