Jim was awesome! Very personable and fun to visit with - a genuine good guy. He also really knows pianos! Ours was a fairly routine tuning job, but he was very thorough and the piano sounds like new again (you don't want a piano tuner who is in a hurry). I really enjoyed learning much more about how pianos operate and how they are properly tuned along the way (and I love to learn : ) Highly recommend Jim for any piano maintenance needs.

Jim Farris did a phenomenal job tuning and regulating our piano. It was more of a restoration. The piano's rail in the keyboard had been damaged in a move from Germany, It had not been regulated in almost twenty-nine years. Jim got it tuned to be playable in time for Christmas (it was more than a tuning) and then came back to finish the regulation. IT PLAYS LIKE NEW, and with a son and daughter-in-law who are both very good pianists (the daughter-in-law is VERY particular and teaches piano), they are thrilled! Jim also explained every aspect of what he was doing which we greatly appreciated. On top of all this, his fee was very reasonable (we had spoken with other potential professional technicians ahead of time). All of this just conveys his love for the piano and the music it can produce (he plays very well himself). Jim has my highest recommendation and will have all of our future business. You will not go wrong with him!

Jim was knowledgeable, effective, but above all forthright. We thought we may have thousands in damage to our piano. He diligently walked us through every facet of our piano, what could be done, and was able to get us back in great working order with just a few repairs, some cleaning and tuning. We were thrilled with his work, his honwst approach and his charm. Would definitely recommend giving him call!

This was a courtesy tune paid for by Grainer Music where we bought our new Yamaha 5'8" grand so I don't know what the charge was. We liked Jim. Competent, personable. We hadn't noticed that it was slightly out of tune, but we did notice the improvement! Good job, Jim! We'll call him again.

Thank you for those kind words Jacque. What started out to fix bass dampers from not dampening found annoying issues like the sostenuto (middle pedal) needed adjustment and those new strings and pins were really popping. Was very pleased how it all turned out.

He came to work on one of the paddles on my piano. He cracked the fallboard on my piano, because he didn’t tighten the screws before closing it. Then he put some touch up paint on there and try to wipe it off. Now my new piano got two 1 inch long cracks, once on each side of the fallboard. Hire him at your own risk. Don’t understand how he received all the 5 stars. Btw, the paddle is not working again 3 days later

Mr. Song is understandably upset at what happened with their piano. Always willing to stand by any work performed and do whatever is necessary to make things right, I have reached out to Mr. Song to have a professional refinisher come to his home and restore the fallboard and can have one of the most experienced piano technicians in Colorado Springs take a look at the middle pedal issue.

Jim and Black Forest Piano Tuning & Repair are who I will go to for all of my piano tuning and repair needs. My piano hasn't been played in years and I had it shipped across the country to my current home so I could start playing again- it was in rough shape and Jim gave it the care it needed. I can tell he has pride in his profession because he stayed until the job was done and wasn't afraid to put quality time and effort into the job.
