I am using Awesome Auslan to learn Auslan. The videos are great, easy to follow and interesting. Because the videos are short, I can take my time and replay them as many times as I like and not get lost in really long videos where I can't keep track. As my own hearing loss increases, I am starting to use signals with my family and putting what I learn to good use. Thanks Awesome :-)

I highly recommend this course! It starts very easy to understand and progesses consistently throughout the weeks, until eventually you can do whole classes without speaking at all and just communicating through signs. The instructor, Michaela, is very good at interacting with the whole class and making things fun and interesting. The class had a very interactive and relaxed atmosphere and I always looked forward to attending!

Absolutely love Michaela's teaching style and have retained so much as a result. She's funny, down-to-earth and cares that you get it right! The history and theory incorporated into her course content is equally valuable, and I learnt so much about the Deaf/Hard of Hearing community. She's also well versed on local dialects and nuance between States! Highly recommend for locals wanting to learn Auslan!

Absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!! The course was amazing and I learnt so much!! It was really engaging and interesting, with a good mix of theory and practice, as well as personal and cultural knowledge. I could not imagine a better introduction to the language and I am eager to learn more!!!!! Michaela was really supportive and fun, and the whole class was super engaged and passionate!!!! An Awesome experience!!!

i genuinely love these classes im so sad i have my last one next week. i wish auslan was more widely taught and ive been looking for years for resources and these classes have been amazing! ive learned more in 7 weeks than i had from my own research in 7 years as i was so lost on where to start with

So great. I can now have basic conversation with someone in Auslan. Such a beautiful language such a funny teacher such a great class. My uni paid for it so that students could do it for free and around 30-50 of us joined it so I would highly recommend especially for Universities as it is obviously very popular at mine

Delta Stream 2026.05.19

     

Was nice and accurate. Learned a lot of common signs, and was able to hold basic communications with other students for further practice. Good beginer course.

I have just completed Awesome Auslan online course level 1. It's a great course, very well presented.The signs are clearly demonstrated, often with a cultural or historical note, which helps understand and remember the sign. I love the downloads that I can print and stick to my fridge for a quick practice during the day. The voice over is helpful to start, and now, as an activity, I turn the sound off and practice reading the signs only. Throughout the course, Michaela also gives great insights into the Deaf community's culture. It's just as valuable as vocabulary. Michaela is a passionate and generous teacher, and makes it fun to learn! Thank you Michaela! I can't wait to start level 2! Sabine Alberro

Play and Grow Play Centre 2025.09.09

     

Michaela facilitated a story time/nursery rhyme session at our play centre and it was fantastic. She has such a great ability to run an interactive and age appropriate class for the little ones, while educating the grown ups at the same time. She was very flexible during the session based on the needs of the attendees (intuitive to children’s interests throughout the session, while some grown ups wanted more explanation) and she handled it seamlessly. In addition to this, Michaela’s extensive knowledge and her willingness to open up conversations about Auslan culture and the Deaf community, and her mission to raise awareness around the use of Auslan make her the perfect bridge to close gaps in knowledge and break down misconceptions. We will definitely be bringing Michaela back for more sessions for our community!
