Very knowledgeable and dependable service. Have worked on several of my vehicles. Have saved me money on finding issues before I need to spend more $ to fix them. Oil changes, new A/C unit, brakes, transmission, ect every service they have preformed for me has been on point.

Thank you, Paige! We appreciate you recognizing our genuine care for our customers here. Your trust means everything. We're always here for you and your car. 🚗😊
I brought my 1979 Jeep CJ7 to Chuck's Auto Repair Shoreline to diagnose and repair my horn which stopped working after speaking with Rocco, the General Manager. Rocco assured me he has a mechanic with 50 plus years of experience working on the older vehicles named Mark that could take care of this problem.
After I brought Jeep in I was subsequently provided with cost estimates by their Service Writer, Eric. To diagnose the horn problem would cost me $164.65. The second cost estimate provided was for the actual repair and this cost estimate totaled $345.12. Combined cost estimates totaled $509.77 to repair horn.
I reluctantly approved the estimates given to me, as I believed their cost estimates appeared excessively high, but I needed my horn to work!
When I asked Eric, the Service Writer what happens if the their "old school" mechanic finds the problem and repairs the horn in about 15 minutes? Eric immediately replied and said, oh, our mechanic is honest and we would not charge you more than for the time actually worked. I found this to not be true.
The mechanic may, or may not be honest, and the same can be said of the service writers. Truth and honesty is a rare virtue seldom seen in business today.
It's difficult, if not, seemingly impossible, to find a mechanic that works on older vehicles, and even harder to find transparency and honesty in the automotive repair industry when it comes to servicing cars, let alone an old car. These shops take advantage of customers with their unscrupulous practices.
Moreover, I was told by Rocco, the General Manager, that their mechanic Mark has 50 plus years of experience working on the older vehicles. After giving me a $20.00 discount, I paid a total of $487.67 for a horn relay which was replaced and horn works again.
I just couldn't shake off the high cost of this repair. When I teturned home, I priced a new horn relay online for a 1979 Jeep CJ7 starting as low as $8.37 to as high as $14.52. The cost of the new part (horn relay) was not specified in my cost estimates? This prompted me to do some further research because I surmised a horn relay was not necessarily a difficult job.
This is what I researched:
Diagnosing and replacing a horn relay on a 1979 Jeep CJ7 typically takes 30 minutes to 1 hour, assuming moderate electrical experience.
Diagnosis involves testing the relay for clicks (using a 12V test light) and checking for continuity. The relay is often located under the dashboard or near the steering column, making replacement quick.
Diagnosis (15-30 mins): Testing if the relay clicks when the steering wheel horn button is pressed. A 12V test light helps check for power and ground continuity.
Replacement (15-30 mins): Replacing the relay, which usually involves unplugging the old unit and plugging in a new one, sometimes requiring a small screw driver or nut driver to remove it from its mounting point, often near the base of the steering column.
Being troubled and feeling taken advantage of I called Rocco at Chuck's Auto Repair Shop as I wanted to discuss the cost of this horn repair. Eric told me Rocco was in another customer's vehicle right now but would have him call me right back. Eric then asked me if the horn still worked? I said, yes. Eric then started asking me other questions, and I just paused him and said Eric, it's not about any of these things. Just please have Rocco call me.
As I have not heard back from Rocco after waiting quite some time, I posted this review. I will not be going back to this shop again unless the horn malfunctions because I was told it's covered under a 24-month warranty.
I would not recommend taking your older vehicles to them as what should have been a straightforward repair for an experienced old vehicle mechanic, ended up costing an exorbitant amount. Not a right thing to do with any customer who entrusts and relies on a repair shop's integrity.

I want to thank you for eventually calling back and speaking with our shop manager Ryan. During that conversation, you confirmed something that I think is worth sharing publicly, because it's at the heart of this whole situation. You told Ryan that you went home and used an AI chatbot to research what it takes to diagnose a non-working horn on a 1979 CJ7. The AI told you it should take roughly 30 minutes to an hour. You took that answer, compared it to our 2.5-hour diagnostic, and concluded we overcharged you. That's the entire basis of this 1-star review. Here's the part I want to share with anyone reading. Out of curiosity, I ran the exact same question through an AI chatbot myself. The first response I got was almost identical to yours — "30 minutes to an hour, check the fuse, test the relay, you'll likely find it fast." Sounds straight forward. Sounds like we ripped you off. But unlike you, I didn't stop there. I kept asking questions. My next question was: "What if that doesn't solve it?" The AI's answer changed completely. Suddenly the realistic timeline jumped to an additional 1.5 to 3 hours for voltage tracing, steering column tear down, bulkhead connector inspection, ignition switch testing, and full harness continuity checks. I pushed further and told the AI that, as a mechanic, the quick answer didn't sound practical. The AI agreed — and admitted that on a 47-year-old Jeep with unknown history, brittle wiring, and decades of previous-owner modifications, the realistic shop diagnostic time is 1 to 3 hours minimum, and that "anyone quoting a flat 30-minute fix on a '79 CJ hasn't worked on enough of them."Then I asked the AI directly: a customer brought in a '79 CJ7 with a dead horn, we charged 2.5 hours of diagnostic time, and we found a bad relay — did we overcharge? The AI's answer: "No, you didn't overcharge, and no, you shouldn't have necessarily found it sooner. 2.5 hours of diag on a '79 CJ7 electrical issue is defensible and within industry norms."That's the same AI you used. The difference is I asked follow-up questions and got the full picture. You stopped at the first answer because it confirmed what you wanted to hear. This is the frustration I have as a shop owner in 2026. We have technicians with decades of hands-on experience working on vehicles that don't exist in any diagnostic database. We test entire circuits to make sure the repair sticks and we can stand behind a 24-month warranty. We charged you within industry-standard time. Ryan walked you through every step of the diagnostic process on the phone. And none of that mattered, because a chatbot gave you a one-sentence answer that fit the story you wanted to tell. What also disappoints me is that you didn't feel comfortable having this conversation with us before posting a public 1-star review. Rocco called you back. Ryan called you three separate times and left voicemails. We were ready and willing to walk you through every detail of the work. You chose to post publicly first and talk later. To anyone reading this review: ask AI a real diagnostic question and then ask follow-ups. You'll see exactly what I'm describing. The first answer is almost never the whole answer, and on a 47-year-old vehicle, the whole answer is what protects you from coming back next month with the same problem.Your horn works. It's warrantied for 24 months. We did the job right.

I called Chucks when a Check Engine light illuminated on my 2006 Scion XA's dash. They were able to take my car in for a diagnostic the same day and discovered both the cause of the Check Engine warning as well as leaky tire boots that were spraying oil all over the place. By the next day, new parts were received and installed, and I was back on the road. As it happened, the Check Engine light came back on only a day later. I called Chuck's and took the car back in. The crew ran another diagnostic, found a gas cap leak and replaced the cap all for no additional charge! I really appreciate how responsive the professionals at Chucks are when I call out of the blue, and the way they walk me through their process and the repair options. Everyone at Chucks is always friendly and knowledgeable. Car repairs are never fun, but Chucks does a great job of a making the experience as pleasant as possible.

I took my car in for a brake inspection due to excessive squeaking. They did a full car inspection and stated that my brakes were perfectly fine and "still had a lot of life left in them". They did convince me to pay $700 to replace a timing belt.
One week later, my brakes stopped working in the middle of me driving. Took it to a different auto shop, my brakes were scraping so bad that my brake lines were broken and the fluid leaked out, causing my brakes to stop working completely. I could have died.
