The site visit was very brief (around 10 minutes) and focused on the communal staircase only. At the time, the assessor appeared satisfied and no specific concerns were raised when I asked what needed to be done.
After receiving the report, several additional requirements were introduced that were not discussed during the visit, and some points required further clarification due to inconsistent wording.
The assessment cost £240, which felt high given the short duration of the visit and the subsequent need for extensive follow-up clarification.

Of course, fire safety is the priority, and I have no issue complying with all legal requirements.
However, I am disappointed by the lack of transparency during the site visit. The visit lasted around 10 minutes and focused only on the communal staircase (32 steps) in a semi-commercial building with two single-occupancy flats. When I asked at the time, I was told everything was satisfactory, no issues were raised or discussed, and this later proved to be misleading.
I was therefore surprised by the additional requirements introduced in the report, many of which were not discussed on site and required further clarification, particularly regarding the fire alarm system and compartmentation survey. As a result, I do not have confidence in the assessment and am considering commissioning a second fire risk assessment. If the second assessment contradicts this report, I will take the matter further and request a full refund.
I expected any issues to be clearly identified and discussed on site for proper understanding of the requirements. Saying everything is fine during the visit and then issuing a report with multiple issues is not an appropriate or transparent approach.

Antony is an experienced Fire Risk Assessor, holding a Level 3 qualification, and Supernova is certified by the IFSM. All support tickets raised following the assessment were responded to within one hour, as part of our commitment to clear and timely communication.
Regarding the site visit, time spent is variable and this is reflected to the size, layout, and scope of the communal areas assessed, rather than the depth of the assessment itself. During the visit, the remedial recommendations later detailed in the report were discussed on site, and no immediate concerns by yourself were raised at that time.
Fire risk assessments are not solely based on the duration of the visit but on the assessor’s professional judgment, experience, and the subsequent evaluation and reporting carried out in line with LACORS guidance and relevant British Standards.
The report findings and recommendations are transparent, proportionate, and fully aligned with current legislation and best practice. It is not uncommon for formal recommendations to be clearly structured and expanded upon within the written report following careful review.
We understand that implementing fire safety recommendations can involve financial cost, and we appreciate that this may be challenging. However, as the Responsible Person, the priority must always be the life safety of residents and ensuring the building is compliant with current fire safety requirements. Our role is to identify and clearly communicate any risks present — not to minimise findings based on cost or convenience.
The fee charged reflects the assessor’s qualifications, professional accreditation, reporting time, and post-assessment support provided, rather than the length of the site visit alone.

Booking was easy and the asbestos survey was carried out promptly but the address and details on the survey had to be corrected as they were wrong. The amended survey report was sent out promptly so I am happy to recommend them and use them again.

Fantastic Service – Highly Recommend

Very fast response and proffessional service. I requested a quote which came back immediatly. There was a box to ask further questions which I used - responses back came within minutes! - even out of hours!

I highly recommend SuperNova. I requested both an FRA and Asbestos survey and they had the surveyor to my house early the next day. Antony was great at explaining what was entailed and answered all my questions. I paid on the day I ordered the surveys and I had the reports within 2 hours of Antony attending.
