I was almost at the point of settling for duvet covers with synthetic fibers when I did a search for all the bedding stores in NYC.
I am so glad I found Area!! The sales associate was very friendly and honest with me about which product would meet my needs. He even let me take the duvet cover outside to check its shade in natural light. The cover I chose looks and feels even better than a $1200 Yves Delorme I coveted in Paris…and I got it on sale for $125.
It feels great to support a New York brand and a company that steadfastly refuses to use synthetics. I will be looking here first the next time I need anything for my bed.
Area's sheets are so soft and long-lasting. Sleeping in them makes me feel like a superstar, and crawling into bed is such a treat. I've lived in New York City for three decades, and Area continues to be my favorite store.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review, Kara. We are very honored to have you as a long time customer and look forward to seeing you one day soon!
I used to love AREA. However, I am concerned that the quality of the craftsmanship has declined over the years. I purchased a duvet cover about 8 months ago and, with normal use, it has developed giant holes on both sides. The customer support on this has been abysmal - blaming me for the wear and refusing to stand behind their product.
I would highly recommend you look elsewhere if you are interested in a product that will be worth your money.

Hi Ryan,
We are very sorry to see your comment. Although we understand your disappointment, linen is especially sensitive to rubbing — while the fibers themselves are very strong, the softness and relative openness of the weave in comparison to cotton’s tighter construction can make linen a bit brittle and sensitive to friction of any kind.
As we explained (and we hope in a kind and helpful manner) — how long a fabric lasts can vary greatly depending on use and care, and for this specific duvet cover it is clear that it’s been under more stress and wear in the two places where holes were forming — the fact that this is not happening all over the duvet but only at these specific spots is indicative of the stress factor involved and would exclude any quality issue. The duvet was purchased last May, and after almost a year of frequent use with that kind of stress, unfortunately sometimes this result is inevitable. All this said, we did offer you a replacement at 50% off the duvet’s current cost — and in fact, we extended that offer to anything in our current collections if you preferred another option.
Regarding craftsmanship, it is true that it is more and more difficult to maintain our level of quality as the marketplace is currently glutted with inferior product passed off as high-end. For AREA, manufacturers are forced to disrupt and alter their normal operations flow to maintain the quality they know that we require, and we are constantly on it to make sure they deliver.
Hope that we can resolve this for you still — as we left it before, please let us know if you have any other suggestion on how to proceed. We can also try to repair the duvet for you — it’s such a topsy-turvy time in terms of shipping and logistics, but if you would like to send back to us to our warehouse, we can take a look at the duvet in person to evaluate further, though this process will take a bit more time than normal. Please contact us directly for more details concerning that option if it is of interest.
Thank you,
AREA

I purchased my first blanket from AREA more than 15 years ago at a stockist in Seattle. That blanket is still in my linen closet (!!!) and still looks great so many years later. Having purchased many more products over the years I have been very pleased with all my selections. My orders have always shipped promptly and accurately. The sheets have a wonderful relaxed but luxurious quality that is hard to describe. The linen fabrics used for duvets and throws are exceptional. The range of colors and patterns have been so thoughtfully chosen. Everything looks terrific together and I am looking forward to choosing bed linens for a new guest room soon. AREA is that rare company in modern commerce that is moving toward quality and customer satisfaction rather than running toward inferior manufacturing. I love this place!
