I came into J. Chaney’s CompTIA Security+ class with zero IT experience, and I was honestly nervous. But J. Chaney made everything clear, understandable, and even fun. He is hands down one of the best instructors I’ve ever had.
He broke down the basics—like the CIA triad (confidentiality, integrity, availability), passwords, security controls, and why companies need rules and policies—using simple examples anyone could understand. When we learned about threats like phishing, malware, and social engineering, he explained them in everyday language so I never felt lost.
Even the harder topics—like networks, cloud security, encryption, certificates, MFA, segmentation, and backups—finally made sense because he tied every lesson to real-life situations. Instead of just reading slides, he told stories, drew diagrams, and checked in constantly to make sure we were keeping up.
The hands-on parts were the best. We practiced spotting suspicious emails, reviewing logs, using a SIEM, understanding alerts, and walking through a mock “security incident.” I never imagined I’d understand things like incident response or vulnerability scanning, but he broke each step down until it clicked.
He also taught the bigger picture: how companies manage risk, why policies matter, how vendors and third parties affect security, and why training regular employees is just as important as the tech itself.
What I appreciated most is that he never made anyone feel embarrassed for asking questions. He was patient, encouraging, and genuinely cared that we understood the material. By the end of the course, I felt confident—something I didn’t think was possible when I started.
If you’re new to IT or nervous about cybersecurity, take this class with J. Chaney. He makes Security+ understandable for beginners and gives you the tools to actually succeed. I can’t recommend him enough.
What a phenomenal review Tracy - thank you for walking every prospective ATA Security+ student through exactly what they will experience! You perfectly described J's and our instructors' ability to bring life to technical content, for both the beginner and the experienced! Congrats on your Sec+ success - we are proud of you!

Virtual course seemed like a money grab. Course material was not that great. They pushed out one more ACP course a few months before PMI changed their ACP exam. Unfortunately I failed (the new ACP test) and they have zero student resources after the course. Waist of $1200. Try Vets2pm, I took their PMP class and it was great passed first try.
Peter, we're sorry to hear about your experience. We strive to offer valuable course training and resources, and your feedback is important to us. It appears you took the PMI ACP class with us May 15-17 of 2024. The exam changed on November 8th, 2024. We did not "push out one more ACP course a few months before PMI changed their ACP exam" - we intentionally did not schedule a course after the May course due the impending version change in November - 6 months later. We are very conservative and transparent about protecting our students from the risks associated with impending exam changes, as demonstrated by the course scheduling date, allowing ample time for you to take the exam well before the version change. You contacted us on July 1st of 2024 for your exam voucher. We then contacted you on August 16, 2024 to see how you had done on the exam. You responded on January 4, 2025 to tell us that you had failed and asked for new course ACP access. On January 6th, 2025 Kim let you know that we had not yet run the course with the new content due to low market demand. She sent you a link with new updated ACP content practice exam questions and answers. Yesterday (September 2, 2025), you asked again for course resources and Kim advised you that the course resources are only available for 1 year. We are very committed to helping our students be successful, in this case the fact that 15 months have passed and an exam version has ensued heavily restricts our ability to help. With that said, ATA always goes the extra mile - please give us a call tomorrow so we can explore this further.

Recently obtained Security+ through ATA and I extremely happy with the results. J Chaney was my instructor and he made the content very understandable and relatable to real life IT Issues. I trusted them and their curriculum and the assured me every step of the way that I was gonna pass and that’s exactly what happened. I plan on getting more certifications through them

J Chaney was a “God” in the classroom. He commanded your attention like lightning from Zeus and thunder from Thor! That guy deserves the compensation and authority to propel the academy to the top of mount Olympus.
I will 100% use ATA for my next certification.
Roy, you are now formally part of Zeus' and Thor's warfighting team! Glad we could "arm" you for the fight - keep up the great work! Hope to see you soon!

I had the privilege of attending the Security+ bootcamp led by J. Chaney, and I can confidently say that I gained more knowledge in just one day with him than I did during an entire 5-day bootcamp with a different company and instructor. J. Chaney's teaching style is exceptional—he effectively relates complex topics to real-life scenarios, making the material more accessible and easier to understand. His dynamic energy and engaging approach kept the class lively and interactive, ensuring that each day was both informative and enjoyable, without feeling monotonous.
Randy, thank you for the amazing review! J. Chaney is one of our most tenured instructors and is consistently in demand with our clients. Thank you for so eloquently highlighting his gifts and talents in the classroom! Send your colleagues our way and have them let us know that they want to attend J's class! : )

Attended the CySA+ Instructor-led training and highly recommend Hank Cox as he was my Instructor. Very knowledgeable and enjoyed conducting the hands on labs. After the completion of this training, I'm happy to say I passed my CySA+ exam.
Broseidon, congrats on passing CompTIA Security+! Your hard work paid off and we are so happy ATA was able to support your success. We hope you continue to learn with us!

I really like the structure of ATA. From the instructors all the way to the administrative staff. Communication was great, received emails with class info in advance, no issues with access to resources, the content and material were up to date, and the instructors for CISM and CCNA were very knowledgeable and answered everyone’s questions easily. I definitely plan on signing up for classes with them again in the future, if I have the resources that is. All-around fantastic organization.
Thank you so much for the great review Shawn! We are thrilled you had such a great experience. We look forward to learning with you again soon!

J.Chaney the Great was my class instructor. He properly prepared us for Sec+ certification and clarified any misunderstandings regarding the concepts. It also took alot of dedication to studying and retaining information coming from a background with almost no IT experience(Aircraft Maintenance).
Thanks for the great review Aldo! We hope you keep learning with ATA!
