I gotta say, Mr. Oconnor and the team at AOPTA are professional, kind, and most of all just easy to talk to. Before I found them, I called about 5 or 6 different attorney offices, public officials, and tax services. No one picked up it was either AI bots, voicemail, or some third-party companies trying to sell my info. Then I called AOPTA and within a ring or two, Anthony Oconnor picked up. Not ai, not an assistant or some person across the world from me, just a real person in Chula Vista ready to help. He knew a ton about reducing property taxes and answered all my questions about Prop 19. He also had a very good understanding of how the city works. he knew exactly who to contact and how to get things done. What would’ve taken a law office weeks to figure out, he explained in a simple 15-minute phone call. There’s a reason he’s saved in my phone as “The Property Tax Man.” I seriously can’t recommend this team enough—they actually care, and that’s super rare these days.

High and Dry If you want representation that leaves you high and dry, Anthony of AOPTA is your guy. In our brief discovery call he was attentive and said there was a good chance we have a case. The appraiser valued the property $200,000 under purchase price. Needless to say the rest of the experience he was pretty much hands off and hiring him produced zilch. 9 working days before the hearing I found out we “don’t have a strong case”. I only found out that info because I’m the one who initiated the email to ask. He had all of my thorough docs and evidence I’d uploaded for nearly a month and no email/ reveal of the analysis. He had the nerve to send a curt email soon after he was hired stating that “frequently updating clients” detracts from the work involved. That was the last email he initiated. You’re better off representing yourself.

Anthony is absolutely fantastic. He gave my case 100% of his attention. Although he worked on a contingent basis (no fee unless he wins), he worked so many hours on my case that I began to feel guilty and was prepared to pay him even if we did not win our case. I had approached several other property value appeal companies. Each of them said I had no case. Meaning, they did not think I had a case to win so they wouldn't be paid. I knew I had a very strong case and AOPTA helped me to develop it and argue it with the LA County Assessor's board. We called our subject witness on the call and we were granted a reduction in property value. I was so grateful to Anthony that I happily paid him more than his fee. This was because I know my savings over the many years I plan to live in this house will accrue and offset any little amount I had to pay for his services.
