Absolutely delightful experience meeting and learning from Julie! She made a gray Michigan winter day feel like a fun girls vacation. She set up a cozy, bright, and fun ambience right inside my dining room - and to top it off was an excellent teacher who made me feel completely comfortable learning this challenging new skill. 10/10!!!
My friend and I had our first mahjong experience and it was great! Julie was very personable and comfortable to be with and the epitome of patience. Her enthusiasm for mahjong makes her a great teacher. I highly recommend you grab a few friends or family members and schedule a lesson. My journey to becoming a Mahjong enthusiast started with a birthday party. Someone in our group mentioned Mahjong, and we all decided to learn to play. A few weeks later, we had our first meeting with an instructor from the Ann Arbor Mahjong Club. She taught us to play American Mahjong. I love this game!
I have only good things to say about the Ann Arbor Mahjong Club. Our instructor, Julie, was simply a wonderful Mahjong teacher. She not only has a deep understanding of how to play the game itself, but she also understands the history of Mahjong, and its history of bringing communities and friends together.
Julie has a true passion for teaching Mahjong to others. Her ability to break down complex strategies into easy-to-understand concepts made each session both enjoyable and enlightening. In our group lessons, she was able to adapt to individual learning needs, and her overview of the rules of Mahjong was clear and easy to follow, which helped us focus on the joy of playing Mahjong. Everyone in our group had an enjoyable time learning, and we all went away wanting to continue to play and learn. I had additional lessons with Julie after I had been playing for a few months that helped me sharpen my skills and improve my strategic thinking about the game.
Mahjong is a game for all ages. My group included people aged 30 to 70. In the spring, I plan to hire Julie to teach my 13-year-old granddaughter and her friends how to play Mahjong.
