I was excited by the many positive reviews and that they appeared so professional with their automated online booking, texting confirmation, and even a video. I received a call, explained the situation (main sewer line clog and locating and exposing u-trap), they said they could certainly help, but when I said we were a self-managed coop the customer service agent's tone changed. She put me on hold and came back and said they could not even come to the house to do an assessment (we already had the appt scheduled for a time two hours from the call) until they drafted a COI and she wanted me to send them a sample COI. And it would take them a couple of days she said. We want someone now. The sewer caused flooding.
A sample COI? And for what? They haven't even assessed what the job would be. They obviously didn't want the work because it would be done for a co-op.
In response to the owner's quick response to my review, and to be transparent and fair: I did tell the customer service agent that a plumber had come for an emergency call on Sunday after the flooding but could not find a U-trap for the sewer and it ended there, and this was already communicated in the online reservation. I told her that I wanted to deal with a professional reputable organization going forward. What is not true is that she told me that they wanted to draft and come with a COI to the appt so that they could begin the work on the spot. It would take seconds to generate a COI, not two days as she told me, and she did not ask if I wanted to schedule another appt 2 days later. The topic of the COI only came up when I said we were a small co-op. To be clear, I did not ask for it. And I've never been asked by a business to send a sample COI that another business has provided to us(me) in the past. I've upgraded the review to two stars due to the owner making an effort to explain themselves (probably better if they explained it as such on the phone, though, if it were true). If the agent or owner wishes to call me and communicate to me what really happened, I would be fine with deleting the review altogether as I do not like to disparage a small business. But the slick automation savvy should match the service. They have my phone number.

To be very clear, the fact that this property is a co-op had absolutely nothing to do with our decision or the conversation. A Good Plumber has successfully worked with co-ops, condominiums, management companies, and similar properties throughout New York City for over 25 years, and we routinely provide Certificates of Insurance when required.
Our tone changed when the potential customer explained that he wanted us to come to the property solely to visually assess the location of the sewer trap. However, another plumber had already been there the previous day, performed the same visual assessment, and was unable to locate it. Simply sending another technician to repeat the same assessment would likely provide little additional value while creating another service expense.
Instead, we preferred to come prepared to assess the situation and, if necessary, perform the work required to uncover and locate the sewer line during the same visit. Because the building requires Certificates of Insurance before any work can be performed, we requested the insurance requirements in advance so that everything would be in place if work became necessary.
Our intention was to avoid unnecessary visits, keep costs down, and give the customer the best opportunity to have the issue addressed in a single trip.
We therefore strongly disagree with the statement that we declined the work because the property is a co-op. That assertion is simply untrue and unnecessarily misrepresents the conversation.

I’ve been using A Good Plumber for the past two years. I’m very happy with the work that they have done in the house. They are very clear when they explain what needs to be done and why it’s important to take care of the issue. I was told the total cost before the work began and so there were no surprises in terms of workmanship and cost when they were done. I highly recommend them.

Excellent job on gas piping work.excellent quality and extremely professional. I recommend and would use again.
In additional to the boiler piping they assured all boiler compliance was done.
They also did a great just clearing and cleaning out the drains.
Update: July 2026
Mauricio did a great job resolving a major leak issue, removing old piping and replacing and resolving the entire mess in a tenant apartment. He also corrected an issue with a corroded shower handle in another tenant apartment. Well done and everything was cleaned up. I am very happy with the work done.

Very positive experience. Thomas was communicative, came when he said he would and spent the time to find the issues that were causing leaks, and explain clearly what needed to be done. We set up a follow-up for the repairs and to replace a hot water heater past its lifespan. The work was done as expected, no more leaks. We appreciated the time and care that was taken. I was very happy with the service and skill of the plumber and this company.
When you call, you get a knowledgeable woman on the line who is all up-to-date with the schedules and services they provide—you are not talking to some one in the middle of a job, or driving around in a van on the way to a job. She listens and answers all your questions thoroughly.
Josh and the assistant plumber impressed me immediately. Before they set foot in the home, they put on booties to protect our floor and asked for permission to enter. The office had sent us a text when they were inbound, with Josh’s picture and a bio, so we knew exactly who we’d be letting in before he even arrived. Josh is polite, listens, and speaks in complete sentences. He even confirmed for me how I’d do a next step of plumbing maintenance on my own so I wouldn’t have to hire a plumber again.
A Good Plumber is a professional shop. You are not going to pay neighborhood handyman prices for their services, and that’s fine with me. These guys deserve all the business they get.
