My experience with 1-800Accountant has been very positive. My payroll specialist Tara L. is very knowledgeable, consistent, responsive, patient, and very supportive. I can always count on her to show up when I need support. The other professionals also provide great support and guidance. I have worked with the the same payroll specialist and book keeper for the last year which is great. There has been some turnover in Tax advisors and accountants. I wish I could have dedicated professionals, less turnover and more check-ins in this department.

I just opened my business and created an account with Legal Zoom, 1-800Accountant partners with Legal Zoom, so I got a phone call from Legal Zoom connecting me with Danny at 1-800Accountant. Danny was very persuasive and kind on the phone...as you would expect someone to be who is trying to sell you something. :). So far, so good with everything. I completed the onboarding process today with Patricia "Pat". She was kind and very informative. She also placed an agreement doc in my folder, which I downloaded into my personal file, detailing my responsibilities. Again, so far so good. I will speak to a tax advisor on April 7, 2025, so I'll let you know how that goes.
I'm being detailed because after I purchased 1-800Accountant (just shy of $3,000) I read some scathing reviews on reedit. I've ran a business in the past (an S-Corp), so I know what is expected of me and what I expect from an accountant. After reading the reviews I seriously thought about canceling before this meeting with Pat and calling my credit card to recoup the money (I wasn't trusting 1-800Accountant with a proper refund after the reviews I saw). But, as I was considering this, it became clear that I needed to keep my word even to my own hurt...so I will. I really hope things go well with 1-800Accountant. :)
8/24/2025 Well it’s been 5 months and am very happy. I did have an issue when I started, but I called and this was worked out very easily. Gema calls once a month to ensure I have everything uploaded to my file and she answers my questions. So far I am getting my money’s worth. I really believe I could have done this on my own, but it sure is nice having Gema! I want to go through tax season before I give my gold star approval. I’ll comment again and let you know how it goes.
10/06/2026 After tax season I decided to cancel my subscription with 1-800Accountant. I am now recreating my first year in business in Quickbooks and I’m deciding to use a local tax person. There are issues I didn’t understand and since I didn’t know the questions I needed to ask things were fuzzy during tax season and I’m still not sure if they are correct. I will pay my local tax accountant to review my Quickbooks and 2025 taxes to ensure things were filed correctly. I still loved having Gema, but now as I’m recreating things I think I’ll go with someone local who I can schedule an appointment with during tax season. I’ll let you know what my local CPA says after he checks o er everything.

Promised tax filing and guidance; still unfiled six months later
I paid approximately $3,600 in April 2026 for 1-800Accountant services covering two businesses. The sales presentation promised tax preparation and filing, bookkeeping support, and ongoing tax guidance. The salesperson even claimed they had access to over 6,000 tax write-off codes compared with approximately 600 used by a regular accountant. I already had an accountant, but switched based on these representations.
As of October 6, 2026, my 2025 taxes remain unfiled.
My experience with my initial tax advisor, Lloyd, was particularly frustrating. During a call when I tried to ask questions, he told me to stop talking, referenced the recorded line, and said he was not supposed to be doing this for me. I was left confused about why assistance seemed to be treated as a favor when I had paid for tax services and guidance.
After months without resolution, I requested another advisor. The replacement instructed me to manually delete or exclude every transaction across my connected accounts because the information was not appearing correctly in their system. With two businesses and a substantial volume of transactions, this was not a practical solution. I explained that and was told the issue would be escalated to IT. I never received a follow-up or workable resolution.
On October 6, I called to request cancellation and a full refund. I was transferred around and told the appropriate staff were busy and that a high-priority case would be submitted. When I asked about my refund, the representative pointed to the fact that I had attended several appointments. Attending appointments does not resolve my complaint: my taxes remain unfiled, the transaction issue remains unresolved, and I have not received the substantive guidance promised during the sale.
I am requesting a full refund, cancellation without renewal, and secure delivery of all my records so I can move forward with another preparer.
Based on my experience, the sales promises were strong, but the follow-through was deeply disappointing. I cannot recommend this service.
