Zip Vol. 1 #2 | Zip’s Gallery of Rogues Grows
This issue delves into both the pasts of Zip and the martial artist known as Mr. Untouchable, showing the struggles they faced that made them who they are today. I do find it almost ironic that while Mr. Untouchable is driven by vengeance, he has incredible mastery of himself in a fight, while Zip in pivot moments loses control. Her troubles with control in moments of stress recalls the opening of issue one in my mind, though that mistake was different in nature. I also enjoyed the cliffhanger setting up future conflict, as well as the vastly different emotions they felt in the wake of the clash. Both act as foils of each other, and I look forward to rereading this issue to try find parallels between them.
Zip Vol. 1 #1 | A British superhero story that Resonates
Zip #1 was a kickstarter I missed the chance to get in on, so I am so excited to see it come to comixology. The tale is a gritty British superhero comic, but really it’s about disabilities. And having read it I think it uses its metaphors well. The “mutant metaphor” over in Marvel often falls short in my eyes, but Zip genuinely resonates. I am Autistic and gosh I could feel for Alison’s alienation from society. The story is a bit dark (there is a suicide attempt) but it hit hard, and is one of my favorite new comics. I am excited for issue two to arrive here soon too, and hope I can catch whenever the kickstarter for issue three begins.
