If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be ignored while someone practices the ancient art of cooking-at-the-speed-of-snail, look no further. This fish and chip shop offers that experience and more.
The lady behind the counter operates with all the urgency of a sloth on a Sunday afternoon. For about 90% of the time, she faces the fryer like it’s a meditation retreat, refusing to acknowledge the growing line of lost souls waiting behind her. The other 10% of the time, she’s… well, taste-testing, I assume, because someone’s got to make sure the blandness levels are consistent.
And the food? Imagine a piece of fish that’s so flavourless it could witness a crime and still not talk. The prawn cutlets are mostly mystery filler—prawn-flavoured air wrapped in regret.
Honestly, watching her “serve” is a performance art piece about the futility of human patience. This establishment could be renamed The Waiting Game & Co.
If you’re after actual service or food with any semblance of taste, might I suggest a different venue—or, frankly, chewing on your car keys. They’d probably have more flavour.

I called at 11am in the morning about the advertised tuna sashimi ($22 for 200g) and kingfish sashimi they have online. They told me it was available. I got there at 12pm, they show us the steak tuna at $50/kg and no kingfish. I showed them their poster they have on their wall (weirdly enough, they removes the poster straight away afterward) and now they told me they don't have that...
so FIRSTLY, you are a fish market and don't know you fish parts??? (My wife is Japanese, we know our sashimi parts). I came to westfield just for that, fighting the crowd with a newborn.
We come back at 2pm, to buy their tuna steak and ask them to cut into sashimi piece (no time to go somewhereelse unfortunately), they say no worries, she puts 3 pieces in a bag (564g) and bring it to their back room to be cut, she came back with a small box. We asked, are you sure everything is in it as it looks small, she said yes. We come back home and check it was 423g with the box. Where are the missing 140g. As mentioned in other comments, things happening in the back of the shop, but of course the owner is denying, finding excuses. NO ACCOUNTABILITY AT ALL. We are all wrong and liars, like we have nothing else to do.
My wife called them back (which as a Japanese, she never does) and told us we can come back and they will refund or give us more tuna... like who is going to lose another hour, fighting traffic, and finding a carpark (average hourly rate in Australia is way higher than that). So except if you give compensation, no one would come.
It was a special family dinner after months in hospital and now we don't have enough food.
During this whole ordeal, we dealer with 3 or 4 different employees, none of them apologise. When we told them that over their phone, she dares saying she doesn't have to apologise for others (you are representing the shop, so yes that the minimum customer service and it is free).
Never again. That's why I only go to costy castle tower as they are the only professional fish market in Western Sydney.
Cutting fish and cleaning services poor.
After they cut/clean its taste bitter and we unable to eat .
We spent $80 for those fish was in bin.
Thistle we explain to store and buy again.
Staff ignored the issue.
If happens this time we need to stop buying g from this store.

I recently purchased a female swimmer crab from Zag Seafood in Merrylands, and unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience. When I brought it home, it had an overpowering, unpleasant odor that was hard to ignore. The smell was strong enough to raise concerns about its freshness.
While I understand that seafood can sometimes have a strong scent, this seemed off, and I ended up discarding the crab because I didn’t feel comfortable cooking or eating it. I’ve bought seafood from other places without this issue, so it was disappointing to encounter this at Zag Seafood.
I hope the store looks into their product quality and freshness as I was really looking forward to trying their seafood. I won’t be returning for crabs anytime soon, unfortunately.

I’ve been here a few times and the grilled fish was amazing. Although went again today and the food was next level. Terrible. Whatever has changed needs to be changed back to the way it was. The fish was like a chicken fillet. Thick and rubbery. The staff were nice and gave us a replacement for fish cocktails. Which was good. Needless to say when something is good don’t change it.

The calamari was very stiff and overcooked and the seafood salad had this weird mayonnaise.
