We had incredible service from SHDR. We had the initial assessment, which was full of well evidenced and tailored research on how to look after our period home and avoid condensation. We then used SHDR to carry out the paint stripping on our house. They were here for 6 weeks and went above and beyond - helping and advising us on site with support far outside the initial remit. They were fastidious with the job, very passionate about the property, hands-on, approachable and willing to share their knowledge. They also seem to be pioneering technology and approaches which are cheaper and protect period properties, whereas consultations with other companies were less informed and more expensive in the long run. Most importantly of all, they're genuinely lovely people who are always happy to help and advise. We've learnt so much from them and become much more hands on as a result. Recently, we decided to purchase a Grade 2 listed, semi-detached, barn conversion in Pulborough. We proceeded to have a full structural survey conducted on the property which highlighted concerns over a damp and possible drainage issue and recommended a follow up, specialist investigations/survey. A neighbour of ours had used Sussex Heritage and Damp Specialists on their historic house for a similar matter and highly recommended Aaron West and his team to us. After forwarding the relevant parts of the survey to Aaron West, he was very accommodating and responded quickly with attendance at a site meeting with the vendors and ourselves. It soon became evident, from his extraordinary engineering background and detailed knowledge of the historic subject matter, that he was indeed an expert in his field. His inspection and subsequent report were thorough and detailed. During the meeting he conducted himself in a very professional manner and we felt completely held by his skills in managing the vendors and our need for matters to be resolved in a timely and precise manner. That inspection and discourse followed by his subsequent report were thorough and very detailed. It is true to say that not only were we impressed but the vendors, who had done the conversion were too, and came to respect what he was asking of them. Aaron continues to liaise with the vendors on our behalf to ensure the necessary drains are constructed and will inspect the work at the end of the process. The end wall of our house (c1600) was rendered years ago and since living here (39 years) we have always had a damp problem inside. When we came the builders rendered inside, but the damp never went away and steadily got worse. We approached several different contractors and all but SHDR talked about tanking. It was such a relief to get a simple explanation from SHDR explaining the problem, and giving a very simple solution, which included removing some of the render outside, so the damp could escape! They were here for several days. Removed the render, put in a quality French drain around the outside and improved ventilation inside. This was done at the end of 2023 and after the wettest winter in memory, there is no visual evidence, or smell, of damp anywhere inside. Overall a superb job. I would unreservedly recommend SHRR!

Arron has been an absolute godsend. He's saved the 7 residents in our block from forking out £250,000 of completely unnecessary major works. The freeholders of our building have been convinced by another surveyor that the damp inside our building is due to problems on the outside, requiring a complete strip down and re-render, but Arron is opposing the survey with his own, using his specialist knowledge of damp and showing them that it's merely a case of managing humidity and using the correct internal materials, saving us each THOUSANDS of pounds. The team have also been fantastic with correspondence, right from the get go and it's been such a refreshing and reassuring experience, dealing with a company who do the work they do because they care about doing the right thing. I'd give 1000 stars if I could. Thank you so much SHDR!

Really pleased with the service from Aaron and the whole Sussex Heritage team. Aaron was able to diagnose the damp issue in our Victorian terrace quickly and the work was done promptly to a very high standard. The team were great at clearly explaining what they were doing and how it would help improve the air quality in our home.

SHDR have provided an exemplary service using the DOFF system to remove external paint from the front of my cottage. Communication from the whole team was timely and clear, a truly professional and friendly bunch! The attention to detail in the paint removal process was first class and has had the neighbours talking about how lovely it was to see the original brickwork exposed again! At the end of each day the drive and surrounding area was spotless and all equipment tidied away. Overall the outcome has been outstanding and I would highly recommend SHDR for any restoration projects.

After several expensive attempts to fix a damp problem we were recommend to talk to Aaron. After just 1minute on the phone he had identified what the problem was and came by the following week to look at it and provide a solution. Aaron is incredibly passionate, warm, and knowledgeable. And I am beyond happy that we found him as no one else had even come close to working out what the (actually very simple) problem was. Aaron was so incredible I almost want another reason to work with him!! However I think I’ll settle for just recommending him to everyone I know as I don’t think there is anyone else who has this much knowledge and passion about damp and how to resolve it!

I would not hesitate to recommend Aaron to anyone needing advice about damp in their property! We knew we had a damp and mould issue under the floorboards in the groundfloor of our home, but we kept getting conflicting advice about the source of the damp, and the work that needed to be done. Then someone recommended we contact Aaron and I'm so happy we did! Our house is a 200 year old property, so naturally we were nervous about finding where the damp was coming from and the cost of any work. We were expecting the worst based on what other damp surveyors had told us. However, Aaron was thorough and very patient in explaining the issue and has given us invaluable guidance on the next steps. Finally, we found someone we can trust and isn't intersted in upselling unnecessary solutions. He even found a small leak that we did not know about and helped us make a claim to our insurer. He continues to give us great advice and checks in to make sure all is well. It's been a pleasure working with Aaron!

After numerous attempts (using other companies) to try and solve a damp issue I was recommend SHDR. I am so pleased that I was recommend SHDR. I have nothing but excellent things to say. Having built 2 eco houses in Ireland I was very luckt to find SHDR and in particular Aaron West. The survey of the house I bought here in West Sussex was expertly surveyed and the remedies were ones I had already used and understood. Aaron provided a great deal of peace of mind during the process of purchasing a new “dream” home in the country. It’s our first time purchasing a 200 year old, converted barn. Max gave me a fully comprehensive assessment of the damp issues in my 600 year old house and the best way forward to deal with this, involving a lot of insulation amongst other things. So helpful!

After ages of battling mould and damp in our flat, Aaron came round and did a thorough inspection of the property. He was so knowledgeable and took the time to properly explain to us what the issue was, why it was happening and advise on how to fix it. I've been consulting with Aaron from SHDR on a first home with damp and mould issues and the experience has been over and above the standard. Not only personable - clearly caring about our livelihood - it has been very reassuring. Over the last year, Aaron has been exceptionally helpful and friendly in helping us understand our Victorian terrace house in Brighton. Aaron took time to sort out our condensation problem and recommended we install a Nuaire Drimaster PIV System which is working exactly as it should. Our condensation has cleared up completely and no more damp patches or smells in the house. We cannot recommend this company highly enough. They go above and beyond for their customers.
