Having only one functioning eye, the decision to undergo cataract surgery was not one I took lightly. The stakes could not have been higher, this was not simply about improving vision, it was about protecting the only sight I have.
After extensive research I chose Mr Maurino specifically because of his outstanding reputation and the remarkable respect he commands among his peers in the ophthalmological community. That reputation proved to be entirely deserved.
From the very first consultation Mr Maurino's expertise was immediately apparent. He took the time to understand my unique situation as a monocular patient, explained every aspect of the procedure with clarity and patience, and never once made me feel that my anxiety was anything other than completely understandable. His calm, measured confidence was genuinely reassuring at a time when I needed it most.
On the day of the surgery, the journey from Cumbria to London took over three hours, and every mile of it was filled with fear and trepidation. I barely noticed the world passing by the window. I could not have imagined then what the return journey would feel like.
The procedure itself was carried out with extraordinary precision. My post-operative unaided vision measured -0.10 logMAR, better than the 20/20 standard considered normal. To achieve above-normal vision from a single eye after cataract surgery is an outcome I could only have dreamed of.
That same evening, on the train home to Cumbria, I sat looking out of the window at the trees and greenery I had longed to see with clarity and found myself reading even the smallest signs at every station we passed through. It has truly changed my life.
What sets Mr Maurino apart is not just his surgical skill, which is exceptional, but his humanity. He understands that behind every case is a person with fears, hopes and a life that depends on the outcome. For a monocular patient placing their entire visual world in a surgeon's hands, that combination of technical mastery and genuine care is everything.
I also want to make special mention of Mr Maurino's wider team, headed up by Andrew and Florence. In a journey that can feel daunting and overwhelming, having an admin team that is organised, responsive, warm and genuinely caring makes an enormous difference. Andrew and Florence ensured that every appointment, every query and every concern was handled with professionalism and kindness. They are the backbone of a seamlessly run service and deserve every bit as much recognition as the clinical team they support so brilliantly.
I cannot recommend Mr Maurino and his entire team at Moorfields highly enough. If you are facing cataract surgery, particularly if your circumstances make the stakes especially high, you could not be in better hands. This was not just surgery, it was life changing.
My brother and I both had our ICL procedure done with Dr. Maurino, and I cannot recommend him and his team enough. We were made to feel extremely welcome from start to finish. I didn’t feel any nerves before, during, or after the procedure due to the immense faith I had in Dr. Maurino and the team.
Getting ICL has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I was able to get back to work after just three days, and one of the biggest changes I've noticed is that my eyes no longer get tired. With glasses, my eyes would start to feel strained just after midday - now, I can work until midnight without any issues or hindrance.
If you're seriously considering Dr. Maurino or ICL, all I can say is that the sooner you do it, the better.
I am very happy with the treatment I received from Mr Vincenzo Maurino and all his team, both in clinic and surgery, having had cataract surgery for both eyes this April at New Cavendish St.
Mr. Maurino is approachable and empathetic, as well as being the consummate professional, and was always willing to answer questions. Also, he was realistic and clear about possible outcomes. I appreciated that time was taken to get the most consistent and reliable results possible during the pre-assessment process, which was somewhat extended in my case. I feel the genuinely tailored approach, including advice given as to which lenses would suit my eyes best (in my particular case he advised against multifocal or toric lenses) together with Mr Maurino’s surgical approach and expertise, were crucial to the final outcome. I am delighted with my new, so far completely unaided vision, with a blended monofocal setup, (which I had previously experienced for some years with gas permeable contact lenses).
Mr Maurino was calmly reassuring throughout the process, including the surgery itself. The surgical team, including Lorna Gallagher the anaesthetist and others, were lovely. Surgery, which I had two weeks apart, was in each case quick, totally painless and smooth, with no issues. Nothing to worry about. Communication throughout, including with Andrew and Florence the practice managers, was prompt and efficient.

I've been considering laser eye surgery for many years but struggled to find the right clinic. About six months ago, a friend recommended Mr. Maurino after conducting extensive research. While she unfortunately wasn't a good candidate for the procedure herself, her recommendation led me to an incredibly serious and professional team.
My journey began with a thorough consultation where the team examined my eyes and eyesight in great detail. They determined that the best approach for my specific needs was to fully correct my dominant eye while adjusting the other slightly less.
It has now been over three months since the operation, and my vision is perfect. It is truly amazing how quickly the brain adapts to these new "images" coming from my eyes.
Within just a couple of days, I was able to resume all my normal activities, including driving and working on a 13-inch laptop. While it took a few additional weeks for my eyes to fully recover and for symptoms like light sensitivity and halos to disappear, those issues are now completely gone.
I highly recommend this procedure, and I cannot speak highly enough of Mr. Maurino and his exceptional team!
Mr Maurino carried out separate cataract operations on my eyes in March and April 2026 with very satisfactory results.
Having chosen him on the basis of recommendations, I was confident of his surgical skills. I quickly discovered that his interpersonal skills are of an equally high standard - it was obvious that he had read the answers I gave to the pre-assessment questionnaire; at my assessment he clearly explained the choices to be made and his recommendations; and he answered my email of detailed follow-up questions within 24 hours. His air of calm confidence dispelled any tension I felt immediately before the operations.
I was also very impressed by the efficiency and friendly demeanour of his practice managers, the ophthalmologists and other staff at my assessment and post-op reviews and the staff who prepared me for or assisted at the operations.

I have had a procedure carried out by Vincenzo Maurino at Moorfields Private. This didn't seem to be working as well as it should and I returned for a further consultation. Mr Maurino assured me that all was as it should be. It was however clear to me that not only was everthing not well but that he did not believe what he was telling me.
I have had a consultations with five other surgeons outside of Moorfields Private, all his peers and all five have stated that he had made a mistake. They can't all have been wrong. Three did not want to operate over another surgeons work, however two were prepared to and one has now resolved the mistake that Mr Maurino made. I am now where I should have been if he had carried out his work correctly in the first place. I had expected so much more from both Mr Maurino and Moorfields Private, but now I can now see that all they care about is the money. He could so easily have put this right. Any walk in high street clinic would have done a better job.
This doesn't just make Vincenzo Maurino a bad surgeon, it also makes him a bad person. He can turn the charm on and off like a tap.
I rue the day I ever heard the name Vincenzo Maurino and advise all to avoid. The trust I placed in him has been betrayed. Both he and Moorfields Private have left me very disappointed.
Infinitely grateful for the extraordinary care and incredible skill of Vincenzo Maurino and his team at Moorfields, West End. I had right eye cataract removal replaced by toric lens on April 2nd 2026 and not only was the whole procedure from start to finish completely free of any discomfort, let alone pain-free, but already the same day I was seeing better than I imagined possible with that eye and went out to a concert and supper the same evening. I now can’t wait for the other « good » eye to benefit from the same treatment and wish I had more eyes for this Master to work on!
I’m sitting looking across the Thames at Greenwich and I can see every amazing, glorious detail. After 66 years of severe myopia and astigmatism deteriorating further to -15 and -12.50 plus cataracts, I arrived at Mr Maurino’s clinic with little vision and feeling confused. I had already seen three other ophthalmologists who had all suggested different lense replacements, none of which sat comfortably within the reading and research I had undertaken as a journalist/writer. I knew choosing the right lense replacement and the right surgeon was my one chance of achieving clear vision for the first time in my life. Mr Maurino is personable and charming with no trace of arrogance. He listened, thought and decided on J&J Eyhance Monofocal Plus Toric with a monovision plan which made immediate sense to me given the status of my eyes. He also kindly and patiently answered further questions I sent over and was happy to discuss the strength of the reading IOL. With the right eye set for distance first and a week later the left eye for reading, five weeks on I have perfect vision. I can see distance 20/20 in my right eye and easily read both at arm’s length and close up with my left eye. I haven’t once felt the need to reach for additional glasses which is life changing. His whole team is kind and gentle and the operations themselves are nothing to worry about. Throughout I felt my eyes were in perfectly safe hands. Having only been able to see clearly at three inches in front of my eyes, I now wake up every morning and marvel at the clarity and colours of my new world. Thank you Mr Vincenzo Maurino. If you are looking for a first class ophthalmic surgeon then look no further and trust in the process.

I would highly recommend Mr Maurino, who I came to see for a second opinion regarding my eye with stage 3 keratoconus, a contentious toric IOL and a visually obstructive (post cataract) PCO. I sought a treatment plan that evaluated all three issues - not just my keratoconus (which tends to dominate consultations to the exclusion of everything else). I especially wanted my visual experience to be listened to (not just relying on vision tests and what is seen from scans and through slit-lamps and assumptions made).
Mr Maurino provided a professional and considered review. While his initial report was less comprehensive and representative of our discussion than hoped, he was prompt, considered and generous in his follow-up to my post-appointment questions . I value his extensive experience and trust his professional advice.
This was a positive, individualised and wholly different experience from my consultations with another eminent consultant at Moorfields Private Hospital, who exhibited unprofessional behaviour, in addition to providing largely canned responses - including medically questionable recommendations for unnecessary laser PRK surgery on my other eye that now achieves (post cataract) 20/20 vision without such treatment.
