I would not recommend based on the administrative experience. My experience with the actual tutors has been excellent! The Varsity admin side is disorganized. I was charged after cancelling, the tutor-matching algorithm often requires cycling through 3–5 tutors before finding the right fit and there’s a clear breakdown in communication between departments. I would not recommend based on the administrative experience.

They are a scam. I spent 2 hours with a *** talking about my child's specific needs only to me matched with a total who was not even close to the subject I was looking tutoring for. Trying to get help from them is a joke. No Live help even when they say 7 days a week. Only AI bots. They will sell you on a service they cannot provide and will not stand by or support. PLEASE save yourself he headache and frustration. Lost $500 for nothing.

INSANE Micro Managing environment / Unrealistic Expectations from NEW hires. Training is advertised as 2 weeks but you're thrown on phone calls on day 5 while being observed and heavily critiqued. Its all sunshine during training but once you're on the floor they expect the MOST within your first month with no grace that you JUST started and knowingly hiring people with no experience in sales. (hitting metrics and having successful sales) MIND YOU new hires are trained to follow a script and transfer to a Senior Rep which the sale closing depends overall on that person you transfer to so I didn't quite understand why closed sales went into our metrics as the Initial Consultant. You're making about 100+ outbound and inbound calls per day, back to back, where majority of it is leaving voicemails, calling DEAD leads and being berated and yelled at by annoyed customers because we continuously call them more than 10 times a day or every other day. Its not until they curse us out that we are to mark them as "declined" The micromanaging is INSANE if you aren't hitting your metrics be prepared for your manager to randomly listen to your live phone calls and message you on the side in the middle of that phone call asking you questions and giving feedback WHILE talking to someone. Adding an insane amount of preassure and anxiety to your day. It honestly got to a point where I grew physically ill just at the thought of logging on for the day. The hours are very hard if you have children. I would say the only good thing that came from this experience was meeting my colleagues who are all very kind but also expressed the same concerns I had throughout training and even after.Another random thing that I just did not like was that we got A LOT of leads that spoke either Spanish or French yet we have NO deparment or team of people to transfer them to on the phone. We are instructed to just end the call if they don't have someone to translate on the phone with them and send them an email in their language - and from there they are expected to enroll themselves in the program without having any of their initial questions answered. I find this incredibly unethical and a bit discriminatory since there were SO many foreign speaking leads that genuinely wanted the help but we're just expected to tell them "too bad we don't have anyone to help you on the phone right now so heres an email, good luck." Varsity Tutors has the vision and potential but the execution is horrible. I never felt so much anxiety or micro management from ANY place I've worked for. And I have experience in customer service and remote work where it was not nearly as bad as this place Pros: Remote/WFH, MacBook provided Cons: MicroManaging, Unrealistic Expectations, Obscure Hours

Low Pay for Quality Work I enjoyed being able to create my own schedule. However, the rates were incredibly low for quality services I was providing. This is especially the case given my degrees are in education.

Varsity Tutors is a very professional company to work for. What is the best part of working at the company?Very professional! Excellent support for students AND tutors. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?I didn't like feeling like I was competing for students. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Very professional. The company cares about meeting clients' and tutors' needs. What is a typical day like for you at the company?I am usually checking emails and placing bids for my next client.

Flexible and Rewarding The kids and parents are great (for the most part), but even for the few that are unresponsive or unreliable, Varsity Tutors makes sure that you aren't responsible for holding those clients accountable. It's a great job for supplemental cash, especially since you can tutor remotely and make your own schedule. I highly recommend for college students or any other people looking for a flexible side job.

The worst experience with a tutoring organization. Please do not use Varsity Tutors. First, they called me, because I went to their website made an account but didn't purchase anything. I was falsely led to believe that they could find me help. It took almost over a month to get help, I was still being charged. They credited me "free tutoring sessions", which were useless. Two of the customer service representatives said they would call me back, they never did. One representative, said that he would stop the charges on my credit card, he lied and didn't follow through with what he had promised. I was charged 318.00 CAD. I asked for a refund, as I had no use for the service, and felt lied to. I received $224.00 CAD of my money back (for a service I did not use). If you do use Varsity Tutors, get everything in writing, and never trust what a customer service representative tells you.

Everything is on you from start to finish This company pays $18/hr, which is only $9 per SESSION, which you plan all of yourself. They do not provide any curriculum or tools. You communicate directly with the parents, most of whom are picky and demanding. I could work at Target and do better than this, without the stress of preparing detailed lesson plans for $9 a pop.

We had an awful experience. Signed up and was not able to utilize the full 8 hours in the subscription. Hours do not roll over which was not explained. Then an automatic charge the next month even though the previous month had not been utilized. Initial experience tutor spent one hour on a first year calculus problem. Spent a lot of time on hold trying to cancel. No confirmation. Their SMS team responds. Expensive and very inflexible. No refunds and poorly skilled tutors. Will never use again. Just awful.

I needed help to pass the Series 65 exam. I was self taught and had failed the exam 2x before I hired Varsity Tutors. My teacher for my class was EXCELLENT, I got a syllabus and felt like I was back in University. My Tutor was strategy oriented and taught me how to attack the exam. I passed the third time around with VT! Money back guarantee as well! The absolute best.

Thank you for responding and resolving problems, taking care of your customers is a great👍 Original Review: Jan. 3, 2025 They told me I’ll get one month trial and then it will off, but after a month I saw it charged me 310$ without my permission! They take your money like a frauds and scammers! Avoid them at any cost, when I tried to get my money back they said no refunds, even though I didn’t took any lessons in this month!!!!

Varsity Tutors LLC is a great tutoring company I've been with for 1 year. My son was struggling in Math and Reading. I have to most wonderful and helpful tutor. She is very patient and nice. You have the chance to change your tutor immediately if its not a great match. I really love the group classes that offered with a extremely large selection of classes and subject based off your child age. Also, on demand tutoring is the best. If you are looking for quality tutoring services with experienced teachers Varsity Tutoring is your best choice.

The tutor I was paired with was amazing and very helpful. The best part, he was very patient with me as I am an adult student. Now the biggest down fault is their billing! Every monthly charge I received was almost double what I was quoted originally. I was scheduled for two sessions per week. What I didn't know was the tutor was only able to bill for min of 1.5 hrs presentation and I received a $400.00 extra charge on top of my original $550.00 monthly billing. I thought the value was extremely low for what you paid. I contacted Varsity Tutoring and received no compensation towards my billing and was told that is the way it is. So If I can offer any advise beware of what you are getting for what you paid for.

I decided to try Varsity Tutors after self studying for the MCAT for a few months and I'm so glad I did! My tutor was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the topics I needed help in. He was very patient and broke down the concepts into smaller chunks of information that made it easier to comprehend. I sent him my questions that I wanted to review the next tutoring session ahead of time and he was always on time and prepared for our sessions. 10/10 would recommend!

I recently sought help for SAT prep and was disappointed with the experience provided by Varsity Tutors. Initially, they offered a month-to-month subscription with the option to cancel if we weren't satisfied. However, they failed to mention that it was an auto-billing subscription buried in the fine print of the tutoring agreement. To make matters worse, there was no information on their website's account page about when we would be billed again. To add to the frustration, when I mentioned that I only needed a few lessons on the initial call, Varsity Tutors offered a package, which I accepted. However, they did not disclose that this package would automatically enroll me in their subscription service. To my surprise, I discovered that I was being charged from my bank statement without Varsity Tutors notifying me of the charge. Upon contacting customer service, they promised that someone would contact me within 72 hours to address the issue and a potential refund. However, that never happened. After a second call, I was told to expect a response within 48 hours and was emailed that a refund was unlikely. Instead of a refund, I was promised a credit. Weeks later, I followed up on the credit and was told it had never been issued. Overall, I feel misled and disappointed by Varsity Tutors' lack of transparency and poor communication. I would not recommend this tutoring service to anyone.

There was miscommunication from Varsity tutors from the start. First of all they wouldn't refund the money after scheduling problems with my tutor who wasn't even available before finals week. I ALMOST FAILED MY CLASS. Felt that the tutors cancelled constantly after there was no emails from my teacher. My tutor didn't even email about not meeting me about scheduling and felt that this service was a waste of money since I don't use leftover tutoring hours on the site.

Difficult to find tutoring opportunities. If you are looking for a fair chance at opportunities for online tutoring, you should probably look at other tutoring organizations that have a different system for pairing students and tutors. At Varsity Tutors it is first come first serve. Some "opportunities" appear and are taken within the same minute. That is no joke. That means if you get a notification about a new opportunity for tutoring a student, it might be gone by the time you open your email. Its an absolutely frustrating and silly way to do business. I've missed on perfect opportunities to tutor subjects I've made a career out of teaching. It's enough to make you shop for another job. Pros: Flexible schedule assuming you can find work Cons: Insufficient opportunities or chances to accept opportunities

My son was struggling with reading and writing, and after some testing, we discovered he has dyslexia. That’s when we decided to start a program with Varsity Tutors. It’s expensive—more than we can really afford—but we don’t regret a single sacrifice. The progress my son has made is incredible. He’s improving so quickly and, more importantly, gaining confidence in himself with every step. Seeing him believe in his own abilities has been life-changing for him and for our family. Choosing Varsity Tutors was a major turning point, not just in his education but in his life. We’re so grateful for the difference it’s making. Thank you!
