While very few actually look forward to biopsies, I do appreciate that Dr. Lailas is a fellow undergraduate UVa Alumnus (Go Hoos!) -- I'm also a fan of his Medical School (Georgetown) as the Hoya's Legendary Center Patrick Ewing also played against my former dormmate -- UVa Legend Ralph Sampson -- back when both Universities were in their NCAA Basketball heydays. I have every confidence in Dr. Lailas, and look forward to meeting him on June 1st. Now if I can just find that Cipro Rx . . .
Dr. Lester was extremely irresponsible during our visit to the ER in Reston. My mother was actively bleeding, and after briefly checking her hemoglobin, he told us it had only dropped from 9.8 to 9 and that she was “not heavily bleeding” and could go home.
I explained multiple times that her hemoglobin was 11 before coming to the ER based on recent lab work from her primary doctor, but he seemed rushed, distracted, and was constantly looking at his phone during the interaction.
Instead of placing the proper medical orders, he entered discharge notes into the system while my mother continued bleeding for another three hours inside the hospital. They were calling him constantly and all he wanted was to leave.
The lack of attention, urgency, and care we experienced was deeply concerning. I do not recommend him.
I had a very positive experience with Dr.Nicholas Lailas, urologist during my recent visit for kidney stone issues. What impressed me most was his practical and patient-friendly approach. Instead of creating unnecessary panic, he explained my condition clearly and confidently using his vast experience and knowledge.
His positive attitude, kind words, and calm guidance gave me a strong mental boost, which is something every patient truly needs during stressful health situations. I have consulted several urologists for kidney stone problems before, but he stands out as one of the most talented, understanding, and compassionate doctors I have met.
I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an experienced urologist who genuinely cares about both the physical and mental well-being of patients.
Worst experience ever with any medical practice in no va for over 50 years. Bottom line = disaster. I waited 60 minutes before seeing the doc, on time for my appt, front desk couldn't say how long of a wait, Dr Lailas, upon entering room, didn't say sorry, apologies, nothing. I shared my displeasure for 60 min wait, he corrected me by stating it was 45. Simply not true. Further, he states he has seen 24 patients thus far. I bit my tongue by not saying perhaps you overbooked, schedule too tightly but I didn't. Our conversation lasted 5 minutes and I ended it abruptly by saying we are over here and left. Why would I spend more time with a man/Dr when he has no respect for my time, no apology for 60 min wait and to turn surly quickly.
As a note on the practice itself, the online pre checkin didn't work , call their office left a message explaining issue, get return call next day saying 'no worries I was all checked in'. Show up for the appt today and they hand me a tablet to check in, told them the story, didn't matter, I still had to enter info via tablet. spend 10 minutes doing so and kept hitting the same issue/problem with tablet. Handed it to receptionist, explained issue, she look it over, mumbled something about app problems and said to just sit down.............patrick arnone
In 2020, I was referred to Dr. Gregory Schenk in Reston by Dr. Hilgartner in Leesburg after an MRI revealed a tumor on my right kidney—initially prompted by severe back pain. This diagnosis was terrifying, but Dr. Schenk's expertise, compassion, and innovative approach immediately put me at ease.
Dr. Schenk guided me toward a treatment plan that successfully avoided radiation and chemotherapy—options my urologist later said could have been far riskier for me.
Five years later, I am cancer-free and living a full, healthy life. I firmly believe Dr. Schenk's experience, intuition, and willingness to work outside rigid protocols—along with his trusted collaboration with Dr. Hilgartner—saved my life. These are outstanding doctors who truly put patients first was an absolute blessing.
If you're dealing with urological concerns, kidney issues, or anything that needs expert care, I can't recommend Dr. Schenk highly enough. And if back pain or other symptoms are your starting point, consider beginning with Dr. Hilgartner—their teamwork is unmatched.
Thank you, Dr. Schenk, from the depths of my heart for giving me these extra healthy years. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!
I’m very grateful for the excellent care I received from Dr. Young. Facing a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming, but her clear, straightforward communication and strong surgical expertise helped me navigate each step with confidence.
My nephrectomy was done using a minimally invasive approach, and my recovery has been practically hassle-free — far easier than I expected during such a stressful time. She explained what would happen, answered my questions directly, and made sure I understood exactly what to expect before and after surgery.
I appreciate the skill and professionalism from her and her staff behind my care, and I’m thankful for the smooth recovery I’ve had because of it. I would recommend Dr. Young to anyone needing a capable and experienced urologist.
I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Young and her excellent staff. I had a difficult diagnosis following surgery but she always took the time to explain things in a way that I could understand. I returned several times for follow up and was assisted by two of the nurses Justina and Jerica. Both of them were very compassionate and helped me through some difficult times. I would definitely recommend Dr. Young and her staff.
Excellent surgeon, but shows no post-operative care. Zero!
She doesn’t follow up with her patients, disregards their concerns, and lacks time for questions.
I’d recommend having a different primary urologist and if/when a surgery is needed have the primary doctor refer you to Dr Young for the surgery.
Saw Nicholas Lailis twice a year for over 5 years. He never did a DRE (physical exam). PSA only. By the time he decided to do an MRI and biopsy, cancer had advanced. He did a radical prostatectomy. The cancer came back two years post surgery. I'm now looking at the possibility I have metastatic prostate cancer. This did not have to happen. Dr. Lailas clearly has more patients than he can safely treat. Many errors in scheduling and even in prescribing. For example, he continued prescribing finasteride for a couple years after the surgery. I regret choosing him as my urologist and cannot recommend him to others.
Dr. Nathan Roberts is a fantastic Urologist in the greater Leesburg area -- informative, detailed, and serious but friendly! Happy to be a patient of his for years to come as needed.
