My experience with USAA has been extremely disappointing. In 2025, while deployed, a USAA-insured driver damaged my vehicle. What followed was a claims dispute that took over a year to resolve. Despite my efforts to document my losses and obtain fair compensation, I ultimately had to contact the North Carolina Department of Insurance to get USAA to communicate and pay the $2,600 I eventually received.
I estimate my total losses at approximately $12,000, including repair costs, aftermarket parts, independent estimates, loss of use, and diminished value. The $12,000 is my estimate, not an amount established by the court. The accident also disrupted my vehicle sale after I had already listed it for sale.
The matter proceeded through small-claims court and was ultimately dismissed with prejudice. Regardless of that outcome, I remain deeply frustrated by the length of the process and the need to involve a state regulator just to get communication and payment.
What makes this especially concerning is that I’m a longtime USAA Whole Life Insurance and renters insurance policyholder. I previously carried USAA auto insurance but switched to another provider. This experience has seriously undermined my confidence in USAA and made me question whether I can trust the company to respond appropriately if I ever need to make a claim under my own policies.
Insurance is about peace of mind. After more than a year of frustration and having to involve a regulator, I have far less confidence in USAA than I once did. Customers deserve timely communication, transparency, and fair consideration of their losses—not a year-long struggle to obtain a $2,600 payment.

Since i've been with u s s a my insurance has gone up. Almost a thousand dollars, i'm paying almost twenty four hundred dollars a year for auto and home. Don't get these people, they're just money hungry

Beware the ATM will take your cash and not deposit into your account leaving you screwed. 21 years banking with USAA and jumping through hoops with these ridiculous atms because no branches. I’m DONE. Today I deposited $1700 cash to the atm, it “cancelled” the transaction on its own, kept the cash and did not deposit to my account. USAA rep said they would “investigate” but I could tell they didn’t care one bit. It takes 10 days! 10 DAYS!! Is that THEFT? I handed money to the machine, the machine took it and did not deposit to my account nor give it back. I just had to drive away having lost $1700. I’m DONE
I don’t recommend they totaled out my dad car just to auction it off. The car is drivable and just need its bumper replaced. And refused to let him keep his car.
I have called the 800 customer service number several times, and each time I select the option for Spanish, the representative who answers speaks to me in English.
When I request Spanish interpretation services, they connect me with an interpreter. However, as soon as the interpreter asks me to explain the reason for my call, the English-speaking representative immediately says, “Thank you for all your help,” and disconnects the call—without explaining anything to me or allowing me to continue with my request.
Thank you, Jessica (10/2/26 at 8:55 a.m.), for demonstrating such a lack of professionalism and for making me feel as though providing proper service to military members is not a priority.
Unfortunately, this has happened to me on several occasions. I find this experience extremely disappointing, especially from a bank that serves military members and their families.
Customer service should be accessible to everyone, including customers who choose to communicate in Spanish. Disconnecting the call while I am still trying to explain why I am calling is unacceptable and leaves me without any assistance.
After experiencing this repeatedly, I am seriously considering moving my accounts to another bank.

That's it I quit. You just lost the RED BARON due to rates twice that of the competition State Farm Insurance is half your price!!! State Farm is $200 cheaper per month!!! Same coverage!!. Your soaking us. Almost 5 grand for 2 cars a month is extortion. Your changing CEO'S like their underwear as USAA goes down with law suits and F Ratings. You don't care about the Military but use it a a cheap gimmick to drain military members from high cost car insurance. State Farm is half the price for TWO CARS!!! After all your musical chairs CEO'S the last 50 years of my business to USAA'S you have nothing but law suits like your rearranging the chairs on the TITANIC going down to your bankruptcy!! You hire foreners as CEO'S and their in and out like a revolving door. Every insurance company is almost half of what you charge. Your Arizona rates are double from State Farm. After many years I am gone. Saving $200 a month. Don't buy their B.S.
LEAVE!! Poor customer service. Web sites don't work. We can only take so much abuse. A military soldier. Bye.
1. 50 years with USAA. YOU CANT REACH AN AGENT. A.I BLOCKS YOUR CALLS. CAN'T TALK TO A HUMAN. CALLS GET DROPPED 5 TIMES TODAY. SERVICE HAS GONE THROUGH THE TOLIET. PRICES HAVE 10 FOLDED. CEO should be fired. Still the highest price out there but the customer service is the worst. Fire the CEO & BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

Leave their twice as high as STATE FARM!!!
My 45 year of membership in annual Bonus in 2021 is $100.00 less $146.00 than last year $242.00 while usaa spends billions out of its 45 Billion annual sales revenue in useless sponsorships and commercials. Fire the ceo.
I've had USAA insurance for 40 years with satisfactory results. Last year I opened a checking account. There have been constant problems with this simple checking account. Customer service tries, but cannot help with the majority of issues because of policies and procedures set by USAA senior management. They cannot even explain why a policy exists because it doesn't make sense to them either. Horrible experience. Do your banking elsewhere.
BBB rates them as "F." They have the highest denial rate of all homeowners insurance. Depose, Delay repeat over and over then Deny!
We had a tornado (documented by the National Weather Service) blow down our barn and tear up house and second barn roofing. They refused to pay one cent on any of it. Stated that the house roof had a rusty screw on it and they don't cover normal wear and tear!! They created 3 different lies related to these claims. I had to disprove each one. I reported them to the BBB and they retaliated, sending us to their fraud department.
We just cancelled their insurance and got a decent company.
Beware, they will take your money, but they do not protect your home. They have to pay out on some claims too appear legitimate to the government, but they are a scam. They have no intentions of paying any claim and if your we're to get paid, it's like winning the lottery.
I strongly suggest that anyone considering USAA carefully research its claims practices and understand exactly how disputed or weather-related claims may be handled before purchasing a policy.
P.S. They've manipulated their Google ratings. If you Google their BBB rating, it says A+. If you go into the actual BBB site, it shows the true rating of F. This alone should prove their dishonesty! Snake oil salesman!
Why the Term Fits
The Origin: In the 1800s, traveling sellers sold fake medicines (often called "snake oil") that promised to cure everything but actually did nothing.
The Meaning Today: It describes any fraudulent business or person who knowingly sells a completely worthless product or promise.
The Connection: An insurance policy that has no intention of ever paying out is modern-day snake oil. You are paying real money for a completely fake promise of safety.
EXACTLY 💯!
Honestly, if I could leave no stars I would. We filed a property insurance claim for hail damage on our roof over a month ago. The initial inspector did not document 75% of the damage. We had to file an appeal, we have had zero communication from our adjuster. I have called multiple times to speak to the adjuster and supervisor, and left many messages with no call back for a month straight. I get a shady message through my USAA app stating that since we moved forward with repairs ourselves, they would not be paying anything out for the claim as a re-inspection was needed. At no point did anyone mention a re-inspection. At no point did I ever receive a call from the adjuster to go over any of the information. We waited beyond there 10 to 14 business day time frame, and received no communication. Now they refuse to help a loyal customer of nearly 10 years?
Never again. I will never use USAA for property insurance, auto insurance and we are honestly considering switching our bank at this point.
You are supposed to be here for the customers and their dependence. Not only have they not communicated, when they do attempt to communicate, they only reach out to my husband (the veteran.) This is after multiple notifications that I will be point of contact, as the joint policy holder, and power of attorney.
You would think a company that is supposed to be for the veterans would operate better and be less shady. At bare minimum, you would think they would effectively communicate throughout a claims process with you and not give you the complete cold shoulder.
Again, zero Stars. We will be leaving and not returning as a customer. And Jason Womack, their "adjuster" is awful. I pray that no one else gets assigned under his case management.
I wanted to express my sincere gratitude and thanks. Mrs. Nicolette and her team were on the spot with both my rental at Enterprise in Middle River, as well as the body shop at Al Packer Ford in White Marsh. My 2024 Ford Maverick looks brand new. They fixed both my bumper and trailer hitch. I highly recommend USAA Auto Insurance. Hooah 💪 💯 🇺🇸

I switched from my Credit Union to USAA. Worst thing I’ve ever done. The person in the phone initially made me feel confident doing this and after none of it is hassle free. A bank that is mostly mobile banking is foolish. Only do business in chocking distance.
Update 9/14
This is terrible customer service. Sat on the phone for an hour and 15 minutes. No problem resolution. Talked to 5 customer service reps and one supervisor. Still in the same position with nothing to show for it.
I have lost trust and confidence in this institution and am leaving USAA after being a member for 10 years. Screw you too, USAA!
Got into an accident that was clearly and obviously the other drivers fault. I had a lot of damage and they only had a scratch. I foolishly reported to USAA just to cover my butt, and was deemed not at fault. But the other driver came up with some stupid medical claim right after and then USAA deemed me at fault! Is that really all it takes? They even told me they figured I am not at fault but it is cheaper to take the blame. Cheaper for who. My bill went from 270 to 370 all because of some idiot speeding through a parking lot and USAA not wanting to try harder. Bs company.
