We entered the place and were told they don't allow kids. Hopeless restaurant. Its the very first time, I heard restaurants do not allow kids below 10years. If you are traveling to NYC, are people now expected to leave their kids stranded and enjoy meals themselves? Or take turns to eat? Then whats the point of being on a vacation

My husband and I were longtime patrons of Tamarind before becoming parents, and we recently decided to visit with our young daughter for what felt like a long-overdue return.
Upon entering the restaurant with our baby in a stroller, several staff members immediately confronted my husband and asked if he was dining alone, completely overlooking both me and our child. Once we clarified that we were together, we were informed of the restaurant’s no-children policy.
We fully understand and respect a business’s right to establish and enforce its policies. However, what was disappointing was not the policy itself, but the manner in which the interaction was handled. The dismissive way in which my daughter and I were effectively ignored left us feeling unwelcome and disrespected.
Hospitality is about more than rules, it is about how guests are treated. Unfortunately, the lack of courtesy and basic acknowledgment during this interaction overshadowed our many positive memories of the restaurant. As a result, we will not be returning. Customer service is everything, and this experience fell well short of the standard we had come to expect.

This is the best Indian restaurant in NYC by far and I don’t say this casually. The food is super authentic and benefits Indian royalty. We are so lucky to have tamarind in NYC.
Not just for 1 year but now coming in 25 years, tamarind has shown its standing power against new Indian entrants. They are the grand daddy of top end Indian food.
Today I ordered the halibut, black lentils/daal -and a parantha! Chef’s kiss.
If you haven’t been to Tamarins in TriBeCa have you even eaten Indian food! Try it, I highly recommend it!

After being here several times, I am embarrassed that I never left a review of this incredible restaurant.
Our most recent visit was during Mother’s Day 2026. On this day guests were given the opportunity to order from the regular menu or the Mother’s Day menu.
As per usual, the employees at Tamarind were highly professional , organized, and attentive. The food was simply amazing. After a quick review, our party of four unanimously ordered from the Mother’s Day menu. I have never been so impressed by a singular holiday menu. It offered an array of specialties, and it truly delivered.
Reservations are highly recommended, as is the establishment.
We look forward to our next visit.

Went with my family after full research and here's my verdict! The ambience was good and well lit. I felt the food could have been better, had huge expectations
We had keema, pepper murgh, lotus root kofta, kozi guntur and lamb curry with naan and mushroom truffle naan. The lotus root dumpling was the highlight, it was creamy with good flavour. Other items were pretty standard, although I felt the chicken curry didn't meet the expectations. The naam were really soft and good.

My favorite Indian restaurant in town. The food is delicious and the service is impeccable. The restaurant itself is not what i usually look for, it’s fairly large (which makes reservations easier!) and with a luxury vibe. I prefer smaller and quieter places, but overall it’s very good.

I came all the way from Toronto having heard so much about Tamarind, and honestly, I left feeling let down.
The malai kofta was the one standout dish, and I wish I could say the same for everything else. The dal makhani was genuinely bad, which is hard to pull off at a restaurant with this reputation. The malai chicken was tough and overcooked, nowhere close to what you’d expect at a fine dining price point. The truffle naan, which I was looking forward to, was just average.
The service made it worse. The staff seemed like they were in a rush to clear us out. My starter plate was taken away before my main course had even arrived. For a restaurant that positions itself as fine dining, that kind of attentiveness is the bare minimum, and they couldn’t manage it.
I genuinely wanted to love this place, and I had built up the visit. But between the inconsistent food and the indifferent service, it did not live up to the reputation or the price tag. I won’t be coming back, and if you do go, I’d steer clear of the dal makhani and the malai chicken.

Average food. Not worth spending $300+ over a dinner. We ordered Murgh malai and one another appetizer, both were extremely dry and chewy. For main course, we tried to be safe and ordered chicken tikka and chicken korma with butter naan, and the tikka gravy tasted literally like tomato puree. I mean how can you go wrong with chicken tikka masala?! Although chicken korma was decent. Cocktails were average. Didn’t feel like trying the desserts after 5 disappointments. This maybe a good restaurant for non-Indians but if you are an Indian trying to get something that feels like home, this isn’t the place for you.
My suggestion- get on a PATH train to Jersey city, get down at journal square, walk to Indian street and enjoy authentic Indian cuisines for 1/4 price.

My expectations were very high considering the price point and the reputation of the restaurant, but the experience was honestly disappointing. Most of the chicken dishes were extremely stiff and overcooked — not tender at all and difficult to cut through. The curries felt very basic, with little depth or effort in flavor. Even the plating was underwhelming and lacked presentation for a place positioned as upscale.
Overall, it felt like overpriced mediocre food. I’ve had far better tasting meals at regular local Indian restaurants for a fraction of the cost. The drinks were decent, but definitely not enough to make up for the food experience. Unfortunately, not a place I would recommend given the pricing, reputation and location.
