I have been to several dentists in the area over the years, I also have several dental anxiety. I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am with S.C.F.D! Dr. cannon specifically. He just really takes his time, makes sure you are comfortable and does an outstanding job WITHOUT judgement! Something that is so hard to find these days. Highly recommend to anyone who is scared or embarrassed to go! Give him a shot!
My husband struggles with severe dental anxiety, and we had hoped that would be met with empathy and understanding during his wisdom tooth extraction. Unfortunately, that was not our experience with Dr. Cook.
This was our first visit with him, and throughout the procedure, my husband was visibly distressed, crying, shaking, and making sounds that made me worry he might be in pain or even starting to faint. As any concerned spouse would, I repeatedly asked if he was okay. Instead of offering reassurance or addressing the situation with compassion, Dr. Cook remained unresponsive. Eventually, he told me, “You’re making everything worse.” At that point, I felt it was best to leave the room.
I understand that procedures can be stressful for everyone involved, but a little compassion and communication can go a long way, especially for patients with known dental anxiety. We didn’t appreciate the lack of compassion.
I have gone to multiple dentists in my lifetime and I've been to two in this town outside of South Coast Family Dentistry. Both of them treated me very poorly and then I went to South Coast Family Dentistry and they are AWESOME. They treated me with respect and kindness and courtesy and I appreciate them more than words can say. Kudos to Dr. Nelson and the team! 🤗
The nicest experience I've ever had at a dentist office, me and everyone I know who goes here have all had incredibly positive experiences. They genuinely care for their patients, offer payment plans which is a life saver for unexpected dental expenses, and are extremely fair with pricing and give honest evaluations of your dental situation not pushing costly repairs you dont need. I have been a patient of Dr. Nelson for 3 years, and he is extremely gentle and diligent with his work. I would never go anywhere else!
This is being rated on their inconsistency and billing. Lately, all my visits have been with another Dr, which the right hand never seems to know what the left hand is doing or why. There's not good enough notes. Onto billing. I rcv'd an invoice in the mail on Friday. What do I see? They billed me for $1900.00 for a service that was never delivered to me, nor did I see. At my last apt w Dr. HuffI even let him know that I wasn't paying for a service that was never rendered. Not only that, but I never signed any such form that would authorize them to charge me. Point blank, I'm not paying for a service I never received. Take it off my bill, or we're going to have TROUBLE!
This wouldn't be the first time around with Dr. Huff and billing, but this time, he wouldn't stand behind their work on a new Porcelain crown that came out 3 days later. Instead of giving me my 1,185.00, he said(Dr. Huff) that he just pulled the tooth at n/c, which would have been a fee of 292.00. Now, is that a fair trade? How many other people are out there who have had some sort of issues with billing and not caring? PLEASE SPEAK UP! I KNOW I'M NOT ALONE!
Staff are always friendly, helpful & professional as well as compassionate.
I appreciate how Dr. Huff & Dr Cannon and the whole staff for that matter explain things clearly and concisely using terms that are easy to understand.
They treat you like family and highly recommend them!

So I haven't been to the dentist in years, I got this severe tooth pain and they did everything they could to get me in they're very caring and want to help I have champ va witch they don't take that insurance so they scheduled me in anyway she didn't want me to be in pain and put me on a dental plan, I think this will be my primary dentist, the lady I talked to was very caring and kind thank you for helping me.
My 1st appointment there today concluded in an extraction. Everyone here was so professional, yet very personable at the same time! Every step was explained as the procedures were happening, and I felt completely comfortable. I definitely felt legitimately cared for, and I'm thankful for my time there today, and thankful to have South Coast here for my future dental care.
